Data compression technology is one of the essential core technologies for remote measurement and control of future intelligent ships. The quality and volume of the compressed digital video of shipborne radar should meet the requirements of intelligent ships. The digital video compression technology of shipborne radar and the bandwidth of marine communication network are the main factors that affect radar digital video compression quality. In this paper, according to the content of the radar echo area, four ranges of shipborne radar digital video are selected, and the high-efficiency digital video coding standards H.264/AVC, H.265/HEVC, HEVC-SCC, VP9 and AVS2 are used for radars of different ranges. digital video uses the same encoding configuration to conduct simulation experiments and compare compression performance. The simulation results show that the digital video quality of the shipborne radar compressed by these video coding standards will continue to change with the fluctuation of the network bandwidth. When the bitrate is low, the compression performance of the encoder is improved faster, while the compression performance of these video coding standards gradually approaches at a higher bitrate. The performance of the codec also depends on the complexity of the radar digital video content. The larger the range, the lower the content complexity and the better the performance. © 2021 SPIE

The disruptive power of cloud computing is altering the gaming industry. Real-time gaming is now feasible because to advancements in streaming algorithms, further blurring the lines between the digital and physical worlds. Understanding the potential of Cloud computing to change the gaming industry is the emphasis which investigates the complicated relationship between numerous technologies. By using cutting-edge streaming protocols and techniques like Adaptive Bitrate Streaming (ABS), buffering, caching, and compression, users may have uninterrupted, high-quality gaming experiences. The study’s findings herald a new era of interactive entertainment and shed light on the transformative possibilities of these technologies. Asynchronous Bit-Rate (ABR) encoding, buffering, caching algorithms, video compression standards, and streaming protocols are just few of the numerous digital components that work together to provide uninterrupted data transmission. The rapid progress of ABR algorithms has made it possible to dynamically alter video quality to maximize the user experience across a broad variety of network scenarios. Buffering and caching algorithms play crucial roles by proactively managing data flow and storage to avoid disruptions in the streaming experience.

NN-VVC: Versatile video Coding boosted by self-supervisedly learned image coding for machines

The recent progress in artificial intelligence has led to an ever-increasing usage of images and videos by machine analysis algorithms, mainly neural networks. Nonetheless, compression, storage and transmission of media have traditionally been designed considering human beings as the viewers of the content. Recent research on image and video coding for machine analysis has progressed mainly in two almost orthogonal directions. The first is represented by end-to-end (E2E) learned codecs which, while offering high performance on image coding, are not yet on par with state-of-the-art conventional video codecs and lack interoperability. The second direction considers using the Versatile video Coding (VVC) standard or any other conventional video codec (CVC) together with pre- and post-processing operations targeting machine analysis. While the CVC-based methods benefit from interoperability and broad hardware and software support, the machine task performance is often lower than the desired level, particularly in low bitrates. This paper proposes a hybrid codec for machines called NN-VVC, which combines the advantages of an E2E-learned image codec and a CVC to achieve high performance in both image and video coding for machines. Our experiments show that the proposed system achieved up to −43.20% and −26.8% Bjøntegaard Delta rate reduction over VVC for image and video data, respectively, when evaluated on multiple different datasets and machine vision tasks. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first research paper showing a hybrid video codec that outperforms VVC on multiple datasets and multiple machine vision tasks. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. In multimedia correspondence, steganography schemes are commonly applied. To reduce storage capacity, multimedia files, including images, are always compressed. Most steganographic video schemes are, therefore, not compression tolerant. In the frame sequences, the video includes extra hidden space. Artificial intelligence (AI) creates a digital world of real-time information for athletes, sponsors, and broadcasters. AI is reshaping business, and although it has already produced a significant impact on other sectors, the sports industry is the newest and most receptive one. Human-centered AI for web applications has substantially influenced audience participation, strategic plan execution, and other aspects of the sports industry that have traditionally relied heavily on statistics. Thus, this study presents the motion vector steganography of sports training video integrating with the artificial bee colony algorithm (MVS-ABC). The motion vector stenography detects the hidden information from the motion vectors in the sports training video bitstreams. Artificial bee colony (ABC) algorithm optimizes the block assignment to inject a hidden message into a host video, in which the block assignment is considered a combinatorial optimization problem. The experimental analysis evaluates the data embedding performance using steganographic technology compared with existing embedding technologies, using the ABC algorithm compared with other genetic algorithms. The findings show that the proposed model can give the highest performance in terms of embedding capacity and the least error rate of video steganography compared with the existing models.

Load Balancing Strategies for Slice-Based Parallel Versions of JEM video Encoder

The proportion of video traffic on the internet is expected to reach 82% by 2022, mainly due to the increasing number of consumers and the emergence of new video formats with more demanding features (depth, resolution, multiview, 360, etc.). Efforts are therefore being made to constantly improve video compression standards to minimize the necessary bandwidth while retaining high video quality levels. In this context, the Joint Collaborative Team on video Coding has been analyzing new video coding technologies to improve the compression efficiency with respect to the HEVC video coding standard. A software package known as the Joint Exploration Test Model has been proposed to implement and evaluate new video coding tools. In this work, we present parallel versions of the JEM encoder that are particularly suited for shared memory platforms, and can significantly reduce its huge computational complexity. The proposed parallel algorithms are shown to achieve high levels of parallel efficiency. In particular, in the All Intra coding mode, the best of our proposed parallel versions achieves an average efficiency value of 93.4%. They also had high levels of scalability, as shown by the inclusion of an automatic load balancing mechanism.

Introducing digital video technology into physical training to improve the scientificity and efficiency of physical training is a new research content. In actual tracking, the target is moving and sometimes interfered by the background, so the accuracy of tracking the target is greatly reduced. With the improvement of sports competition level, the past training mode that only relied on coaches' intuition has been powerless to improve the competition level. Because machine vision has better accuracy and memory than human eyes, it can quickly capture moving targets and record various motion data of targets. In order to accomplish this task better, it is necessary to use existing technologies and methods to separate the target from the background, and then extract the target name, so as to achieve efficient tracking and capture of moving targets. In this paper, the improved background update difference method is used to detect the moving target, and then the clustering extraction algorithm is used to track the moving target, so as to realize the tracking analysis of sports video.

Due to the increasing number of new services and devices that allow the creation, distribution and consumption of video content, the amount of video information being transmitted all over the world is constantly growing. video compression technology is essential to cope with the ever increasing volume of digital video data being distributed in today's networks, as more e cient video compression techniques allow support for higher volumes of video data under the same memory/bandwidth constraints. This is especially relevant with the introduction of new and more immersive video formats associated with signi cantly higher amounts of data. In this thesis, novel techniques for improving the e ciency of current and future video coding technologies are investigated. Several aspects that in uence the way conventional video coding methods work are considered. In particular, the properties and limitations of the Human Visual System are exploited to tune the performance of video encoders towards better subjective quality. Additionally, it is shown how the visibility of speci c types of visual artefacts can be prevented during the video encoding process, in order to avoid subjective quality degradations in the compressed content. Techniques for higher video compression e ciency are also explored, targeting to improve the compression capabilities of state-of-the-art video coding standards. Finally, the application of video coding technologies to practical use-cases is considered. Accurate estimation models are devised to control the encoding time and bit rate associated with compressed video signals, in order to meet speci c encoding time and transmission time restrictions.

The development of portable devices such as digital cameras and mobile phones led to higher amount of research being dedicated to image and video processing systems. In particular, video processing coding technique such as High Efficiency video Coding (HEVC) requires low power consumption for the multimedia applications, this leads to extensive development in low area and high speed algorithms. The log time Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) is increasingly employed for compression standards, since it has remarkable energy compaction properties. Pipelined and MAC based DCT have been implemented in digital hardware to offer better compression at very low circuit complexity. In this paper, a Time division multiplexing (TDM) based DCT architecture is implemented using the concept of resource sharing principle which possess low computational complexity and high speed. This hardware implementation results in reduced area and increased speed compared to the conventional DCT architectures implemented in Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) devices.

360° cameras are a core building block of the Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) technology that bridges the real and digital worlds. It allows us to build virtual environments for VR/AR applications from the real world easily by capturing the entire visual world surrounding the camera simultaneously. With the rapid growth of VR/AR technology, the availability and popularity of 360° cameras are also growing faster than ever. People now create, share, and watch 360° content in their everyday life, and the amount of 360° content is increasing rapidly. While 360° cameras offer tremendous new possibilities in various domains, they also introduce new technical challenges. These challenges span over the entire 360° video production pipeline, ranging all the way from video capturing to high level applications. For example, the 360° field-of-view makes it difficult to display the content to users, and the distortion in the planar projection degrades the performance of both the compression and visual recognition algorithms. Many of the challenges remain unsolved or even unexplored, which prohibits people from exploiting the full potential of the new media. This leads to a dire need for a more mature 360° video production pipeline like those for traditional media. To this end, my thesis targets three fundamental challenges in 360° production-video compression, visual recognition, and 360° video display. Because a proper compressed format is the foundation of all video technologies and applications, I begin with improving 360° video compression. It has been shown that existing video codecs do not perform well on 360° video, and 360° video compression standard is under rapid development. Complementary to the ongoing progress in 360° video compression standards, I propose to exploit the orientation of the 360° video projection for a better compression rate. This article is devoted to the actual problem-the formation of modern technologies for processing digital information messages and the development of a video data compression method with a controlled level of quality loss. In contrast to the existing algorithms, the developed method is based on standard procedures for preliminary quantization of the transformant components of the discrete cosine transformation under conditions of effective reduction of their volume and the parameter of weight coefficients. This approach of discrete cosine transformation allows to achieve conversion and redistribution of the output signal energy in the frequency plane and to obtain areas, that have a smaller amount of information representation of the digital image from the position of its visual perception by the human visual system. This redistribution of the energy of the digital video signal allows to eliminate psychovisual redundancy of the image and provides the opportunity to make quality decisions by increasing the data compression ratio. The proposed method allows to increase the compression ratio of images by 7-10% compared to similar methods using DCT. © 2019 IEEE.
