NDN is one of promising underlying network architectures that supporting 5G because of its characteristics such as decoupling senders and receivers, hop by hop transmission, in network caching, etc. However, it still faces challenges in producer mobility management like the triangle routing problem (non optimal routing path) and global centralization of the home agent, causing a poor scalability in large network scales and long handover delay. In this paper, we propose the ESN-PBA, a NDN producer mobility management scheme using the ESN in prediction to realize a lightweight machine learning based seamless handover algorithm. Better than the existing fixed and post-adjustment management schemes of producer mobility management, the ESN-PBA can perceive nodes movements heuristically and pre-configure the adjustment in advance to reduce overall processing overhead. In addition, with fine-grained home router status feedbacks and NDN content data oriented philosophy, the training process of normal machine learning method can be mutually enhanced. The experimental results in ndnSIM show that, in the case of successful prediction, the effect of seamless handover can be achieved straightly on the fly. In order to improve the hit rate of cache, we take advantage of NDN's multipath forwarding support, the utilization of ESN prediction of multiple candidates and synchronous forwarding. Compared with PIT-based approach and DNS-based approach, the handover delay of ESN-PBA reduces by 66.7% and 75% respectively. Besides, its handover overhead reduces by 38.4%, compared with DNS-based approach.

This paper presents a framework to easily build and execute parallel applications in container-based distributed computing platforms in a user transparent way. The proposed framework is a combination of the COMP Superscalar and Docker. We have built a prototype in order to evaluate how it performs by evaluating the overhead in the building, deployment and execution phases. We have observed an important gain compared with cloud environments during the building and deployment phases. In contrast, we have detected an extra overhead during the execution, which is mainly due to the multi-host Docker networking.

Current blockchain systems suffer from a number of inherent drawbacks in its scalability, latency, and processing throughput. By enabling parallel confirmations of transactions, sharding has been proposed to mitigate these drawbacks, which usually requires frequent communication among miners through a separate consensus *** this paper, we propose, analyze, and implement a new distributed and dynamic sharding system to substantially improve the throughput of blockchain systems based on smart contracts, while requiring minimum cross-shard communication. Our key observation is that transactions sent by users who only participate in a single smart contract can be validated and confirmed independently without causing double spending. Therefore, the natural formation of a shard is to surround one smart contract to start with. The complication lies in the different sizes of shards being formed, in which a small shard with few transactions tends to generate a large number of empty blocks resulting in a waste of mining power, while a large shard adversely affects parallel confirmations. To overcome this problem, we propose an inter-shard merging algorithm with incentives to encourage small shards to merge with one another and form a larger shard, an intra-shard transaction selection mechanism to encourage miners to select different subsets of transactions for validation, as well as a parameter unification method to further improve these two algorithms to reduce the communication cost and improve system *** analyze our proposed algorithms using the game theoretic approach, and prove that they converge to a Nash Equilibrium. We also present a security analysis on our sharding design, and prove that it resists adversaries who occupy at most 33% of the computation power. We have implemented our designs on go-Ethereum 1.8.0 and evaluated their performance using both real-world blockchain transactions and large-scale simulations. Our results show that throughput

High-volume data streams are straining the limits of stream processing frameworks which need advanced parallel processing capabilities to withstand the actual incoming bandwidth. parallel processing must be synergically integrated with elastic features in order dynamically scale the amount of utilized resources by accomplishing the Quality of Service goals in a cost-effective manner. This paper proposes a control-theoretic strategy to drive the elastic behavior of latency-sensitive streaming operators in distributed environments. The strategy takes scaling decisions in advance by relying on a predictive model-based approach. Our ideas have been experimentally evaluated on a cluster using a real-world streaming application fed by synthetic and real datasets. The results show that our approach takes the strictly necessary reconfigurations while providing reduced resource consumption. Furthermore, it allows the operator to meet desired average latency requirements with a significant reduction in the experienced latency jitter.

Real world social networks are highly dynamic environments consisting of numerous users and communities, rendering the tracking of their evolution a challenging problem. In this work, we propose a parallel algorithm for tracking dynamic communities between consecutive timeframes of the social network, where communities are represented as undirected graphs. Our method compares the communities based on the widely adopted Jaccard similarity measure and is implemented on top of Apache Flink, a novel framework for parallel and distributed data processing. We evaluate the benefits, in terms of execution time, that parallel processing brings to community tracking on datasets carrying different quantitative characteristics, derived from two popular social media platforms;Twitter and Mathematics Stack Exchange Q&A. Experiments show that our parallel method has the ability to calculate the similarity of communities within seconds, even for large social networks, consisting of more than 600 communities per timeframe.

This article reviews record versions processing (reconciliation). It provides an algorithm for NoSQL database record versions management. It develops a record versions reconciliation model that is simultaneously updated by multiple users. The model estimates record versions reconciliation time and the number of versions simultaneously stored in a database. based on the modeling results a designer can provide recommendations on the maximum number of users (or applications) simultaneously working with one document (database record). This is important in case there are limitations imposed on the document reconciliation time. It describes preparation and execution of experiments in a cloud, for model adequacy analysis.

Hyperspectral image registration is a relevant task for real-time applications like environmental disasters management or search and rescue scenarios. Traditional algorithms for this problem were not really devoted to real-time performance. The HYFMGPU algorithm arose as a high-performance GPU-based solution to solve such a lack. Nevertheless, a single-GPU solution is not enough, as sensors are evolving and then generating images with finer resolutions and wider wavelength ranges. An MPI+CUDA multi-GPU implementation of HYFMGPU was previously presented. However, this solution shows the programming complexity of combining MPI with an accelerator programming model. In this paper we present a new and more abstract programming approach for this type of applications, which provides a high efficiency while simplifying the programming of the multi-device parts of the code. The solution uses Hitmap, a library to ease the programming of parallel applications based on distributed arrays. It uses a more algorithm-oriented approach than MPI, including abstractions for the automatic partition and mapping of arrays at runtime with arbitrary granularity, as well as techniques to build flexible communication patterns that transparently adapt to the data partitions. We show how these abstractions apply to this application class. We present a comparison of development effort metrics between the original MPI implementation and the one based on Hitmap, with reductions of up to 95% for the Halstead score in specific work redistribution steps. We finally present experimental results showing that these abstractions are internally implemented in a high efficient way that can reduce the overall performance time in up to 37% comparing with the original MPI implementation. © 2019 IEEE.

Technology scaling makes it possible to implement systems with hundreds of processing cores, and thousands in the future. The communication in such systems is enabled by networks-on-Chips (NoCs). A downside of technology scaling is the increased susceptibility to failures in NoC resources. Ensuring reliable operation despite such failures degrades NoC performance and may even invalidate the performance benefits expected from scaling. Thus, it is not enough to analyze performance and reliability in isolation, as usually done. Instead, we suggest treating both aspects together using the concept of performability and its analysis with Markov reward models. Our methodology is exemplified for mesh NoCs and transient faults but can be transferred to other topologies and fault models. We investigate how performability develops with scaling towards larger NoCs and explore the limits of scaling by determining the break-even failure rates under which scaling can achieve net performance increase.

Mobile users have got used to getting useful information while they are literally on the move. An implication of this habit is that certain live information, such as that for navigation, for dating and for handling emergencies, should be tailored to the user's current location. While this is technically feasible with the current technology, it raises concerns on the user's location privacy. To address the delicate tradeoff between user's location privacy and appropriateness of the information for that location, this paper discusses three information delivery protocols. One is the widely adopted Android's protocol, the other two are the authors' novel ones, termed AL protocol and LBPP protocol respectively. The former conceals the user's location within a geographical area, the latter employs secure two-party computation. Privacy of all protocols is analysed, motivating the choice to implement the LBPP protocol. It is made available as the "Getmewhere" service for the reader to download.

With the advances in information technology, healthcare in all varieties of industry is becoming more digital, more cooperative, more patient-centric, and more data- driven. As the use of XML-based electronic clinical information (EMRs) becomes more well-known, so does the need for powerful discovery on them whenever and anywhere. The growing size of healthcare XML files and the difficulty of answering XML queries put new performance requirements to current information management systems. For the reason of supplying rapid and dependable approach for storing and retrieving of huge XML-based electronic clinical information, this paper presents the XML data indexing and querying in the context of the cluster-based computing environment. It introduces a parallelization model for storing and querying big XML data across distributed parallel worker machines. To expose the effectiveness of our approach, we present a prototype implementation of our proposed approach and we present an effective technique to experiment and evaluate this method. Our results demonstrate that parallel XML querying can improve the performance extensively on distributed computing environment.
