Effective integration of heterogeneous data sources has been studied as the most pressing challenge in various fields; such as, high energy physics, astronomy, and life sciences. In this talk, we present a data integration system by using Globus Toolkit with OGSA-DAI. For associating related data among many databases, we have introduced metadata based on their domain ontologies. Using the system one can make a database access flow for describing a set of queries as a workflow, and can query across the databases without aware of their locations and schemas

Scheduling divisible workloads in distributed systems has been one of the interesting research problems over the last few years. Most of the scheduling algorithms previously introduced are based on the master-worker model. However, the majority of these algorithms assume that workers are dedicated machines, which is a wrong assumption in distributed environments such as Grids. In this work, we propose a dynamic scheduling methodology that takes into account the three prominent aspects of Grids: heterogeneity, dynamicity, and uncertainty. Our contribution is threefold. first, we present an analytical model for processing local and Grid tasks at each non-dedicated worker. Second, we present a simple prediction method to forecast the available CPU capacity and bandwidth at each worker. Third, we introduce a dynamic, multi-round scheduling algorithm.

This paper addresses the obstacle avoidance problem in difficult scenarios that usually are dense, complex and cluttered. The proposal is a method called the obstacle-restriction. At each iteration of the control cycle, this method addresses the obstacle avoidance in two steps. first there is procedure to compute instantaneous subgoals in the obstacle structure (obtained by the sensors). The second step associates a motion restriction to each obstacle, which are managed next to compute the most promising motion direction. The advantage of this technique is that it avoids common limitations of previous obstacle avoidance methods, improving their navigation performance in difficult scenarios. Furthermore, we obtain similar results to the recent methods that achieve navigation in troublesome scenarios. However, the new method improves their behavior in open spaces. The performance of this method is illustrated with experimental results obtained with a robotic wheelchair vehicle.

Topology is important for any type of networks because it has great impact on the performance of the network. For wireless sensor networks (WSN), regular topologies, which can help to efficiently save energy and achieve long networking lifetime, have been well studied in [1, 4, 5, 7, 9]. However, little work is focused on routing in patterned WSNs except the shortest path routing with the knowledge of global location information. In this paper, we propose a routing protocol based on random walk. It doesn’t require global location information. Moreover, the random walk routing achieves load balancing property inherently for WSNs which is difficult to achieve for other routing protocols. We also prove that the random walk routing consumes the same amount of energy as the shortest path routing in the scenarios where the message required to be sent to the base station is in comparatively small size with the inquiry message among neighboring nodes. Since in many applications of WSNs, sensor nodes often send only beeplike small messages to the base station to report their status, our proposed random walk routing is a viable scheme. Though the random walk routing provides load balancing in the WSN, the nodes near to the base station (BS) are inevitably under heavier burden than the nodes far from the base station. Therefore we further propose a density-aware deployment scheme to guarantee that the heavy-load nodes do not affect the network lifetime even if they are exhausted.

In this paper we present an approach that customize the BDI model to define a so-called "DIBRA: desire-intention-belief-rapport-adaptation" as a generic method to support progress from individual autonomous agent concept towards interactive multiple agents. Rapport here refers to the component that connects an agent to its environment, whereas adaptation module incorporates mechanisms of learning. The contribution of this paper is twofold; first, we propose a development approach that enables us to combine the internal and the interactive structures of multiagent system; second, the proposed methodology is applied to a real-world application targeting assistance in product development process. We believe that the five proposed tiers for multiagent systems (MAS) development serves for mastering the complexity and the difficulty of setting up effective autonomous interactive MAS

We consider the problem of fair resource sharing to optimize the performance of resource sharing in peer to peer systems. Resource sharing systems currently face rational peers which may exhibit a variety of strategies including: no participation, also referred as free-riding, and greedy behavior. The first aspect has been extensively studied in the late years, while the second one has not received much attention. The broad class of proposed solutions focuses on designing incentives to reward cooperative peers. The side effect of these incentives is twofold: the system load is not balanced and the resource potential of the system is not fully exploited. The P2P fair resource sharing aims at both balancing the load and maximizing the use of system resources. The contribution of our work is twofold. first, we specify the P2P fair resource sharing problem and propose a mechanism to solve it in large scale dynamic networks with rational users. Our mechanism is composed of a novel incentive (i.e. fair cooperation) and an algorithmic part encapsulated in a middleware layer. Second, we propose an architecture for our mechanism middleware layer including four distributed services that bring together several research area: aggregation, semantic group membership and tracking. Finally, we implement our mechanism using a peer-to-peer unstructured model and evaluate it through simulations

The use of Web services as the basis for grid middleware has allowed scientists to wrap legacy applications as services in order to provide their capabilities to grid users. However, this "wrapper" model can be poor at satisfying the requirement for software and data to be efficiently positioned on processing resources around the grid as part of larger coordinated computations. We argue that some aspects of the earlier more exposed grid model, where the client coordinates the use of resources, support these issues better and allow more efficient grid solutions. We propose a model to take advantage of both systems

Because of computational grid heterogeneity, scale and complexity, faults become likely. Therefore, grid infrastructure must have mechanisms to deal with faults while also providing efficient and reliable services to its end users. Existing fault-tolerant approaches are inefficient because they are reactive and incomplete. They are reactive because they only deal with faults when they take place; they are incomplete because they only deal with certain types of faults. Proactive approaches increase efficiency by reducing the cost and time of operations and network resource usage by maintaining the state of executing applications and resuming operation when rescheduled. This paper presents an agent oriented, fault-tolerant grid framework where agents deal with individual faults proactively. Agents maintain information about hardware conditions, executing process memory consumption, available resources, network conditions and component mean time to failure. Based on this information and critical states, agent can improve the reliability and efficiency of grid services

The required reliability in applications of a distributed computer system is continuous service for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. However, computer failures due to exhaustion of operating system resources, data corruption, numerical error accumulation, and so on, may interrupt services and cause significant losses. Hence, this work proposes an application cluster service (APCS) scheme. The proposed APCS provides both a failover scheme and a state recovery scheme for failure management. The failover scheme is designed mainly to automatically activate the backup application for replacing the failed application whenever it is sick or down. Meanwhile, the state recovery scheme is intended primarily to provide an inheritable design pattern to support applications with state recovery requirements. An application simply needs to inherit and implement this design pattern, and then can accomplish the task of state backup and recovery. Furthermore, a performance evaluator (PEV) that can detect performance degradation and predict time to failure is developed in this study. By using these detection and prediction capabilities, the APCS can perform the failover process before node breakdown. Thus, applying APCS and PEV can enable a distributed computer system to provide services with near-zero-downtime.

This paper is based on a new philosophy of CNC (computer numerical control), which is named as INC (integrated numerical control or intelligent numerical control). first it has a brief introduction of INC and describes important characteristics of INC. Second it introduces and analyses the one of INC's three key technologies: CAD (computer-aided design) technology oriented to CNC, which has mended general design functions to fit CNC and includes some new technologies. It mainly includes image preprocessing technology, image vectorization technology and CAD/CAPP (computer-aided design/computer-aided process planning) integration technology. It discusses the principle and application of them further. Finally, a case is given to illustrate how to realize CAD technology oriented to CNC in engineering area.
