This paper demonstrates a technique to write in air using Micaz motes. The application, named MicaPen is low-cost and can be used by the disabled who does not have fingers or limbs. Patients can wear the mote as a wrist watch or bracelet and move their hands based on what character they want to write. The mote detects the movement pattern using the accelerometer of MTS310 sensorboard and displays the characters on the screen. The application can also be extended in several applications including virtual touchscreen or remotely interact with different controlled devices.

The use of autonomous systems is burgeoning in the world today for many applications in many fields from scientific, industrial, to military. At the same time, advances in semiconductor technology have enabled ever smaller, complex and dedicated microprocessors. This work details a control system architecture that takes advantage of these advances for use in resource-constrained autonomous systems. The architecture consists of a real time hardware controller, a guidance and navigation computer, and an edge TPU for machine learning inferences. While the latter two processors are commercially available, a dedicated, modular real time controller is not. Therefore we present an open source design for a real time controller that is intended to be adapted to many types of autonomous systems. We present three different vehicle platforms that implement this control system including a ground vehicle, a surface vessel, and a quadcopter. Finally, we present results using this control architecture on a few key topics of interest in autonomous systems. The first is a novel spatial estimation algorithm called partitioned ordinary kriging that is designed for resource-constrained systems and can be used for path finding during mapping missions. The second result pertains to a sensor calibration utilizing sensor data collected from the real time controller and performed on the navigation computer. Finally, we demonstrate using the edge TPU (tensor processing unit) for object detection using an onboard camera and an object detection algorithm using machine learning.

This paper describes the development of an experimental wireless sensor network (WSN) testbed for studying the nature of irradiance measurements at the sensor nodes that are deployed at different points in the WSN, and oriented differently depending on the deployment geometry. The network was developed on the roof of an academic building at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNC Charlotte), where the sensor nodes are equipped with pyranometer sensors to periodically collect the irradiance measurements at different points and send then to a centralized base station using multi-hop communication. The collected data is analyzed to demonstrate the spatial and temporal variation of energy availability at each individual node, resulting from the localized variations in the light levels.

A large number of hubs are used in a Wireless sensor Network to keep tabs on the physical and territorial conditions of a certain region. It's safe to say that most of them are self-employed. In the past, WSN has not been extensively used due to its high energy consumption, difficulty operating in natural environments, and so on. The LEACH convention aims to extend the life of Wireless sensor Networks by creating groups that can lead huge organisations. The LEACH convention selects the bunch head through irregular turns of an adjacent group in order to equally spread the energy load across Wireless sensor Networks. distributed nodes communicate with their group leader through moderate *** nodes lose power and packages are dumped at an edge energy level. An optional node replaces the first by merging the notion of PEGASIS with conventional LEACH, in the suggested framework a modification in LEACH convention to extend the lifespan of the whole organisation and avoid information misery. As a result, the Base Station receives more data packets. Data packet delivery ratio is increased and energy consumption is reduced as a result of this method. © 2022 ieee.

As an important category of skyline queries, the skyline groups query has drawn growing interest from the academic communities. For taking the benefit of cost savings, data owners are motivated to outsource the data storage and query processing to the public cloud to offload the massive data management. However, direct outsourcing may raise severe privacy issues. In this paper, we define and study the secure skyline groups query problem, and propose the secure skyline groups query methods. To address this problem, we first propose the Basic Secure Skyline Groups Query (BSSGQ) method to find the skyline groups on encrypted data. In BSSGQ method, candidate groups and their aggregate tuples are generated under encryption. To calculate group dominance relations, we propose a secure group dominance protocol to facilitate the dominance computation between groups. With the dominance relations, the skyline groups w.r.t the query group can be obtained, and finally the query results of the skyline groups can be securely returned without being learnt by the cloud servers. To address the efficiency problem in BSSGQ method, we further propose a Dynamic-programming-based Secure Skyline Groups Query (DSSGQ) method to effectively avoid generating the candidate groups. In DSSGQ method, the encrypted data are equivalently mapped based on the query group as the preprocessing to achieve a dynamic skyline groups query. Then, DSSGQ method dynamically constructs and calculates the skyline sub-groups in ciphertext, and the final skyline groups can be combined with the obtained skyline sub-groups. Thorough analysis shows the security and complexity of the proposed methods, and extensive experimental results on real datasets and synthetic datasets illustrate the performance of our proposed methods. © 2021 ieee.

In this paper, we present a distributed machine learning based intrusion detection system in Internet of Things (IoT) utilizing Blockchain technology. In particular, spectral partitioning is proposed to divide the IoT network into autonomous systems (AS) enabling traffic monitoring for intrusion detection (ID) to be performed by the selected AS border area nodes in a distributed manner. The ID system is based on machine learning, where a support-vector machine algorithm is trained using prominent IoT data sets and detection of the attackers is provided. Furthermore, the integrity of the attackers' list is offered by utilizing Blockchain technology, which enables a distributed sharing of the attackers' information among the AS border area nodes of the Blockchain network. Simulations are performed to evaluate different aspects of the proposed IoT system and demonstrate the potential of integrating machine learning based ID to a distributed spectral partitioned Blockchain network.

Edge computing established paradigms are prone to implicate solely powerful server-like edge nodes, in static or semistatic topologies, of centrally-controlled edge networks. In this paper, leveraging upon recent technological advancements and trends, we introduce a novel networking paradigm employing resources provided by independent crowd peers, within a zone of local proximity, to establish collaborative networks for edge computing. We call this paradigm the Crowdsourced Edge. We detail the architecture and characteristics of this novel paradigm, highlighting its unique characteristics and specific challenges, while also positioning it vis-a-vis the existing edge computing concretisations. Finally, we demonstrate the Crowdsourced Edge functionality by presenting an ongoing use case regarding a video-enhanced object search.

The MAC protocol ieee 802.15.4 DSME has features for WSNs to support exigent requirements such as high reliability and adaptability to dynamic traffic. This work introduces the concept of a virtual sink, which comprises the sink and its 1-hop neighbors, a.k.a. satellites, as the core of a strategy to alleviate the burden caused by the funneling effect in data collection scenarios. Our strategy enables the coexistence of a centralized scheduling algorithm at the virtual sink and a decentralized scheduling algorithm for the remaining nodes of the network. Through a simulative assessment, we compare the performance of the virtual sink-based strategy with the status quo of DSME via a decentralized slot scheduler TPS. Results show an improvement of the network throughput of up to 38% and a reduction of the energy consumption of about 30% at satellites.

Indoor navigation is a topical issue in the use of robotics and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in a smart city, especially in the absence/weak signals of satellite navigation. One of the promising solutions of these issues is the use of visual simultaneous localization and mapping (vSLAM) algorithms, and one or more remote data processing servers for localization and map construction of the robots and the UAVs. The paper analyzes the current state of remote vSLAM and gives the requirements of a promising similar framework for UAVs in a smart city. In general, it is possible to distinguish two approaches to remote vSLAM systems for robots/UAVs. The first one implies sending raw data from sensors (video stream) via wireless connection directly to a remote server, which can be used for cloud/fog/edge computing. The second approach involves data pre-processing on the robots/UAVs, with subsequent transmission of data to the remote cloud/fog/edge computing server for further processing, acquiring map keyframes and map updates. The considered approaches, algorithms and solutions are classified by the type and the number of servers used, the maximum number of robotic agents/UAVs, the presence of navigation data fusion, as well as the type of video sensor used. Based on the analysis of existing solutions and vSLAM classification, it is possible to form a set of requirements for promising vSLAM systems for indoor navigation of robots/UAVs, including their camera input, resolution, number of frames per second (FPS), bandwidth, support of wireless standards, channels, and protocols, multi-robot/multi-server support, and time consumption. © 2023 ieee.

Wireless Power Transmission (WPT) has been widely used to replenish energy for Wireless Rechargeable sensor Networks. However, the charging service model, which is of the essence to commercial WPT, has not emerged so far. In this paper, we present a wireless charging service model from the perspective of cooperative charging economics, and formulate the Cooperative Charging Scheduling (CCS) problem for joint optimization of rechargeable devices' charging cost and moving cost. We first propose two intragroup cost sharing schemes to sustain the cooperation among devices. Then, the approximation algorithm CCSA of the CCS problem is proposed based on greedy approach and submodular function minimization. Furthermore, we model the large-scale CCS problem as a coalition formation game and present a game theoretic algorithm CCSGA. We show that CCSGA finally converges to a pure Nash Equilibrium. We conduct simulations, and field experiments on a testbed consisting of 5 chargers and 8 rechargeable sensor nodes. The results show that the average comprehensive cost of CCSA is 27.3% lower than the noncooperation algorithm and is only 7.3% higher than the optimal solution on average. In field experiments, CCSA outperforms the noncooperation algorithm by 42.9% in terms of comprehensive cost on average. Moreover, CCSGA is much faster than the approximation algorithm and is more suitable for large-scale cooperative charging scheduling.
