Software systems have become too complex to manage and fix manually. An emerging approach to overcome this problem is software self-healing. Studies in related disciplines have offered several self-healing solutions, ...

A model of agency that supposes goals are either achieved fully or not achieved at all can be a poor approximation of scenarios arising from the real world. In real domains of application, goals are achieved over time...

Five years ago, with excitement and uncertainty, we witnessed the birth of PRIMA (Paci?c Rim internationalworkshop on multi-agents). The ?rst PRIMA in 1998 has now grown into PRIMA 2003, the 6th Paci?c Rim Inter- tional workshop on multi-agents in Seoul, Korea. During a period of ?ve years, the notion of agent research has grown so much that we hear the term agent on a daily basis. Various ?elds such as business, the Web, software engineering, on-line games and such are now using the term agent as a placeholder, just like the term object is used in the object-oriented paradigm. On the other hand, the research area has extended toward real applications, such as the Semantic Web and ubiquitous computing. The themes of PRIMA 2003 re?ected the following trends: – agent-based electronic commerce, auctions and markets – agent architectures and their applications – agent communication languages, dialog and interaction protocols – agent ontologies – agentprogramming languages, frameworks and toolkits – agentcities – agents and grid computing – agents and peer computing –agentsandtheSemanticWeb – agents and Web services – arti?cial social systems – con?ict resolution and negotiation – evaluation of multi-agentsystems – languages and techniques for describing (multi-)agentsystems – meta modeling and meta reasoning – multi-agent planning and learning – multi-agentsystems and their applications – social reasoning, agent modeling, and organization – standards for agents and multi-agentsystems – teams and coalitions – ubiquitous agents

This paper describes AbIMA, an agent-based intelligent mobile assistant for supporting users prior to and during the execution of their tasks. The agent is based on the well-known agentSpeak(L) agent architecture and programming language, which provides explicit representations of agents' beliefs, desires and intentions (BDI). AbIMA is implemented using Java 2 Mobile Edition and is tested on a hand-held computer. We also provide conceptual foundations and discuss various challenges relating to the use of cognitive agent architectures for intelligent mobile user support.
We report on a study in which twelve different paradigms were used to implement agents acting in an environment which borrows elements from artificial life and multi-player strategy games. In choosing the paradigms we...

multi-agent system(MAS) has more advantages because the agents can collaborate to complete complex tasks. However, the multi-agent interactions are more complex and even uncontrolled and it is difficult to resolve the multi-agent collaborations. This paper focuses on the interaction protocol in MAS. firstly the interaction ontology library including role ontology, action ontology and message ontology is introduced into the semantic interactions. Then the representation of interaction protocol is presented, which describes an interaction protocol as process description and decision-making rules. Then we propose a three-layer agent architecture that contains knowledge layer, collaboration control layer and communication layer. We embed a protocol interpreter and loader into the collaboration control layer to deal with the interactions between agents. Finally dynamic interaction protocol load in MAS are discussed, which load the interaction protocol from protocol library conveniently and the code will be generated automatically. To the end we give an experiment to verify our resolution.
Coordination between large teams of highly heterogeneous entities will change the way complex goals are pursued in real world environments. One approach to achieving the required coordination in such teams is to give ...

In this paper, we introduce the ROADMAP meta-model, designed to describe intelligent adaptive systems in open environments, using agent concepts such as roles. Developing intelligent adaptive systems creates new challenges in engineering software quality attributes such as correctness and reliability. The ROADMAP meta-model captures our understanding of properties of intelligent adaptive systems and our perspective on organizational concepts such as roles. The, meta-model does not solve specific engineering problems, but provides a clean high-level structure where engineering issues can be grouped and classified. Infrastructure to support these issues can then be put in place progressively with consistency. An informal evaluation of the meta-model and comparison to related work is also presented. We expect developers of AOSE methodologies, tools, programming languages and frameworks to benefit from understanding the design and structure of the ROADMAP meta-model. By adopting the meta-model, the resulting methodologies, tools and languages may inherit its desirable characteristics. and better support the development of intelligent adaptive systems in open environments.
