The unprecedented popularity of modern mobile phones has made them a lucrative target for skillful and motivated offenders. A typical mobile phone is packed with sensors, which can be turned on silently by a malicious program, providing invaluable information to the attacker. Detecting such hidden activities through software monitors can be blindfolded and bypassed by rootkits and by anti-forensic methods applied by the malicious program. Moreover, detecting power consumption by software running on the mobile phone is susceptible to similar evasive techniques. Consequently, software based detection of hidden malicious activities, particularly the silent activation of sensors, cannot be considered as trusted. In this paper we present a method which detects hidden activities using external measurement of power consumption. The classification model is acquired using machine-learning multi-label classification algorithms. Our method overcomes the inherent weaknesses of software-based monitors, and provides a trusted solution. We describe the measurement setup, and provide detailed evaluation results of the algorithms used. The results obtained so far support the feasibility of our method.

Presents a methodology for using a 'parallel automaton' to set up the requirements, to specify and to execute small computer-based systems (CBSs). A parallel automaton is an extended form of the Mealy machine. It handles a finite set of events (variable conditions or clock conditions) which can occur in parallel, and performs a finite set of actions which can be carried out in parallel. In the parallel automaton, there is no concept of a "global state" as in the Mealy machine. Instead, to each action and to each event is associated a "private state" representing their occurrence in the application. Nevertheless, the number of event/action private states is also finite. This single notation (a parallel automaton with private states) can be used to describe requirements and specifications in the same way. Moreover, these two descriptions can be connected. The aims of the application can be described using a parallel automaton as a black box with initial inputs and final outputs. This parallel automaton can then be refined and enhanced with intermediate conditions and actions to obtain detailed requirements. By successive refinements and enhancements, a sufficiently detailed executable specification can be derived. We present this methodology through a simple CBS example for requirements and specifications using the parallel automaton notation. We then give an architecture of a virtual machine that we have built to execute such a parallel automaton on a network.

We study the resource allocation problem and call admission problem for multicast applications in ATM networks. Two approaches are proposed for dividing the end-to-end QoS requirement into the local QoS constraint on each link of the multicast tree. The first approach is to apply the greedy method to divide the end-to-end QoS based on the residual capacity on the links. In the second approach we show how to use a genetic algorithm to solve the QoS allocation problem. The effective bandwidth concept is used for estimating the amount of bandwidth required to guarantee a certain level of QoS on each link. If the end-to-end QoS cannot be guaranteed due to insufficient network resources, the multicast request is rejected (as a result of call admission). A new performance metric, fractional reward loss, is adopted for evaluating the solutions generated by the proposed two approaches. Our experiment results show that our approaches yield lower fractional reward loss and utilize the network resources more efficiently.

Various implementations of D-flip-flops (DFF) for shift register designs in CMOS image sensors are proposed. Driven by requirements of low-area and low-power dissipation, the presented FF allow implementation of power-efficient shift registers, used for signal readout control and windows of interest definition in CMOS image sensors and are optimized for operation at low frequencies. Power dissipation of the presented DFF is significantly reduced by leakage control using the stack effect. A variety of DFF and a shift-register, using the stacking effect approach, have been implemented in 0.18 /spl mu/m standard CMOS technology to compare the proposed DFF and shift-register structures with existing alternatives, showing an up to 63 % reduction in power dissipation of a shift-register at 30 Hz frequency. Operation of the proposed circuits is discussed and simulation results are reported.

As industries progress toward Industry 4.0 and subsequent frameworks, integrating advanced technologies into existing machinery is increasingly recognized as essential for maintaining competitive advantages and adapting to new industrial standards. This paper discusses a modular architecture named Smart Retrofit Solution, which was developed to upgrade legacy machinery cost-effectively. The proposed architecture supports a range of intelligent components, including hardware (devices and sensors) and software (programs and algorithms), which facilitate the integration process without requiring extensive customization. The design aims to enhance older systems performance, connectivity, and functionality, providing a scalable and economical solution for upgrades, particularly suitable for Small and Medium Enterprises. Despite the potential benefits, retrofitting presents challenges related to overcoming inherent design or material limitations of the existing systems. Furthermore, regulatory compliance after substantial modifications, introduces additional complexities and costs, leading to potential unnecessary expenditures. The provided analysis suggests that while retrofitting is often cost-effective in the short term, the decision to retrofit should consider both the immediate and long-term strategic benefits of adopting new technologies, considering the full spectrum of operational and regulatory impacts. This assessment supports the understanding of smart retrofitting as a strategic response to the demands of modernization in industrial contexts.

computer system security relies heavily on the ability to identify and eliminate malware. Signature-based approaches are widely used, although they are not able to effectively identify zero-day assaults or polymorphic infections. This is why there is a demand for detection methods based on deep learning and categorization. computers, Smartphones, and apps are all fair game for malicious software. Malware is software that has to be watched out for since it might be a hazard for both computer users and internet-based systems. Malware was developed with the intention of stealing sensitive data from a user's computer or taking remote control of a user's device. Malware is software designed to disrupt or even destroy data on a user's computer. Malicious software can enter a computer in a number of ways, one of which occurs over a network that already has the virus installed. This project will investigate and deploy high-precision classification models using deep learning technologies from the discipline of computational intelligence to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of malware detection. Learning based Classification Scheme for Improved Malware Detection (LCSIMD) is a unique technique described in this work and utilized as the primary training model. The suggested LCSIMD framework is trained with malware visualization tools. Models with higher classification accuracy can be found by transforming malware features into images and then modifying their characteristics and input procedures; similarly, prototypes with proposed model can benefit from the use of suitable characteristics and preprocessing methods. The final step is to generate characteristics for network-generated instances, which improves the precision of small-scale training. Every one of us desire to utilize malware that impacts various devices as a teaching example, as described above. The output efficiency of the suggested technique is cross-validated with the classic Neural Network (NN) model to assess

A rapidly changing and very competitive global environment has triggered intensive interest in the processes and management of innovation. This is also true for the defense sector, which is a rather special business environment. This paper deals with the practical application of Drucker's now classical approach to innovation, using the example of an israeli defense organization experiencing a deep structural change. Sources of systems innovation opportunities that led in the past to successful operational capabilities are presented. It is argued that in the future more systematic management of innovation will be required in order to keep nurturing innovation. The proposed strategy is to pay careful attention to all possible sources of innovation opportunity.

The rationale for the development of digital models of cultural features (virtual heritage) should by now, to the attendees of this fourth annual session on virtual heritage at the VSMM conference, need no further explanation. From the previous sessions we can all, hopefully, agree upon the benefits of well designed, and well developed virtual heritage projects, the work of D. Sanders (2000) and many others is proving the suitability of virtual heritage modeling in research and public interpretive settings. How then, with the practice of virtual heritage modeling becoming more common, can we best utilize our efforts? What is the best way to make share our work with an increasingly interested public? This paper examines a virtual heritage project in Tucson, Arizona to examine some of these issues. I posit that virtual heritage can play a crucial role in building a sense of community place.

The conditions for limit cycle oscillations in digitally controlled resonant converters were explored theoretically and tested by simulations and experiments. The analytical analysis reveals that, similar to the case of digital PWM control, limit cycles of such systems will occur when the LSB of the control is changing the output by a value that is larger than the resolution of the ADC. However, unlike the case of PWM, limit cycle oscillations is dependent on the operating point since both the power stage gain and the resolution of the digitally generated drive frequency, are not constant over the operational frequency range. Consequently, at high gains (close to resonant) the required frequency resolution may not be supported by the digital core. A time-domain simulation model, that was developed and verified experimentally, enables the steady state analysis of digitally controlled resonant converters including the limit cycles phenomenon as well as the closed loop response. The proposed static analysis and dynamic modeling were verified experimentally on a series-resonant parallel-loaded converter that was operated in closed current loop. The digital control algorithm was implemented on a TMS320F2808 DSP core. Very good agreement was found between the analytical derivations, simulations and the experimental results.

Most contemporary fourth-generation languages (4GL) are tightly coupled with the database server, and other subsystems, that are provided by the vendor. As a result organizations that wish to change database vendors are typically forced to rewrite their applications using the new vendor's 4GL. The anticipated cost of this redevelopment can deter an organization from changing vendors, hence denying it the benefits that would otherwise result, e.g., the exploitation of more sophisticated database server technology. If tools existed that could reduce the rewriting effort, the large upfront cost of migrating the organization's applications would also be reduced, which could make the transition economically feasible. The ITOC project is part of a large collaborative research initiative between the Centre for software Maintenance at the University of Queensland and Oracle Corporation. The objective of this project is to design and implement a tool that automatically recovers both the application structure and the static schema definition of 4GL information system applications. These recovered system components are transformed into constructs that populate Oracle's Designer 2000 CASE repository. An essential component of the ITOC process is to determine the relationships between different columns in the database and between references to those columns and fields that appear within the user interface. This in turn requires analysis of data flow between variables in the 4GL programs. While data flow analysis has been applied in many applications, for example, code optimization and program slicing, this paper presents the results of using data flow analysis in the construction of a novel design recovery tool for 4GL-based information.
