The long propagation delay and the existence of highly bursty VBR traffic pose a significant challenge for any end-to-end feedback control scheme on an ATM network. A fuzzy logic based scheme aims at improving the QoS of the ABR service under these conditions is proposed. This paper applies the proposed fuzzy logic control technique of Qiu(see Proc. IEEE GLOBE-COM'97, Arizona, USA, p.967-71, 1997 and Proc. IEEE ICC'98, Atlanta, Georgia, USA, vol. 3, p.1769-73, 1998) to the standard proposed switch algorithm-Explicit Rate Indication for Congestion Avoidance (ERICA+) so as to study its performance. A fuzzy logic predictor is used to estimate the ABR output switch queue length one round-trip delay in advance. This information, together with the total queue growth rate and current ABR queue length are provided to a fuzzy inference system which generates a rate factor. This factor is used as an additional component to increase/decrease the explicit rate (ER) value of a backward resource management (BRM) cell. Simulation results show that the fuzzy logic control scheme can out-perform ERICA+ in terms of queue delay, variation and cell loss ratio under different propagation delays with the existence of CBR and VBR traffic.

In many applications the traffic traversing the network has inter-packet dependencies due to application-level encoding schemes. For some applications, e.g., multimedia streaming, dropping a single packet may render useless the delivery of a whole sequence. In such environments, the algorithm used to decide which packet to drop in case of buffer overflows must be carefully designed, to avoid goodput degradation. We present a model that captures such inter-packet dependencies, and design algorithms for performing packet discards. Traffic consists of an aggregation of multiple streams, each of which consists of a sequence of inter-dependent packets. We provide two guidelines for designing buffer management algorithms for this problem, and demonstrate the effectiveness of these criteria. We devise an algorithm according to these guidelines and evaluate its performance analytically, using competitive analysis. We also present a simulation study that shows that the performance of our algorithm is within a small fraction of the performance of the best offline algorithm.

Improvements in telecommunication and computer technologies have made integrated services packet-switched networks possible. It is expected that a significant portion of future networks will carry prerecorded video and that traffic in applications such as video on demand (VoD) will include high-fidelity audio, short multimedia clips, and full-length movies. In this paper we study the effect of video rate smoothing, of prerecorded VBR sources, on network utilization and admission control of a VoD system, such that the end users receive a satisfactory service. The enhancement piecewise constant rate transmission and transport (e-PCRTT) algorithm is used as the smoothing algorithm, which utilizes equal size intervals. The effect of smoothing on the statistical characteristics of multiplexed video streams is explored. We found that synchronization between the smoothing intervals can significantly improve the efficiency of the smoothing process by reducing the number of bandwidth changes and the rate variability of the multiplexed stream. In this paper we propose an admission control policy in which a bandwidth rate-plan is negotiated at stream initiation. The algorithm is evaluated via simulation for the VoD scenario.

The IEEE 802.11 standard is set of LAN protocols, and define the set of the physical layer (PHY) as well as a media access control (MAC) protocols for implementing the WLAN WiFi computer communication at distinct frequencies, inclusive of 2.4GHz, 5GHz, and 60GHz frequency bands. This paper presents high linearity and low reflection coefficient low noise amplifier (LNA), utilizing cascode inductive source degeneration topology, in 45nm CMOS process. The proposed LNA is simulated for working WLAN applications i.e., 2.4GHz frequency range. Implementation of the circuit design has been done in Advanced Design System (ADS) software. The low noise amplifier achieves high third order intercept point (IIP3) of 14.097 dBm, reflection coefficient as input (S11) of -22.627 dB, maximum gain of matching circuit i.e., 19.329 dB, reverse transmission coefficient (S12) of -39.539 dB with nominal noise Figure of 2.353 dB at 2.4GHz frequency. The LNA achieves high stability factor 1.808 from a 1V power supply.

Even with a powerful network of signaling and warning systems in the country, there have been many examples of trains crossing the red signal due to various factors, even today. These occurrences, known as Signal Passed At Danger (SPAD) events, could potentially result in severe consequences such as train derailments, train collisions, infrastructure collisions, and other dangerous events. Traditionally, these events have been analyzed using the Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) approach Bayesian Network (BN) is considered to be a better model to represent this situation when it comes to handling complexity. Bayesian Network allows for integration and includes systematic knowledge about the system, which helps to get a very flexible concise, and simple graphed representation. This study demonstrates applications of Bayesian Belief Networks (BBN) analysing and enlightening the Signal Passed at Danger (SPAD) system in railway processes. Execution of BBN offers more dynamic and flexible models compared to outmoded Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), struggling with complexity. BBN efficiently catches the inter dependencies between factors that are contributing to SPAD events, such as signal conditions, human errors, and mechanical issues. Over simulations and probability calculations using OpenMarkov software, Study revealed key intuitions, such as identifying highly risk apparatuses within SPAD system. The outcomes include enhanced risk calculation accuracy and recommendations for improving signal systems and safety protocols. These conclusions contribute to a safer and reliable railway structure, highlighting the success of BBN for complex, safety critical systems in real world applications.

Multi-hop cellular architectures are being explored for use in future fourth generation (4G) cellular networks. This paper is a step towards identifying desirable features of such multi-hop architectures. Towards this end, we compare two network architectures which have been proposed to improve the throughput of packet data cellular networks viz. the hybrid wireless network (HWN) architecture proposed by Hsieh and Sivakumar (see Proc. ACM SIGMETRICS 2001, Cambridge, MA, USA, June 2001) and the multi-hop cellular network (MCN) architecture proposed Lin and Hsu (see Proc. IEEE INFOCOM 2000, Tel-Aviv, israel, March 2000) and by Ananthapadmanabha, Manoj and Siva Ram Murthy (see IEEE PIMRC 2001, San Diego, USA, October 2001). We extend the HWN architecture (proposed only for operation over a single cell by Hsieh and Sivakumar) to multiple cells. We present an analysis of the MCN architecture to gain additional insights into its operation. We also present simulations to highlight the strengths and weaknesses of the two architectures. Based on these simulations, we suggest modifications to improve the performance of both architectures. We identify issues relating in general to the inclusion of ad hoc features (multiple hops) into cellular architectures.

This paper puts forth a new metric, dubbed channel cycle time (CCT), to measure the short-term fairness of Communication networks. CCT characterizes the average duration between two consecutive successful transmissions of a user, during which all other users successfully accessed the channel at least once. In contrast to existing short-term fairness measures, CCT provides more comprehensive insight into the transient dynamics of communication networks, with a particular focus on users' delays and jitter. To validate the efficacy of our approach, we analytically characterize the CCTs for two classical commu-nication protocols: slotted Aloha and CSMA/CA. The analysis demonstrates that CSMA/CA exhibits superior short-term fairness over slotted Aloha. Beyond its role as a measurement metric, CCT has broader implications as a guiding principle for the design of future communication networks by emphasizing factors like fairness, delay, and jitter in short-term behaviors.

Within the evolving landscape of Industry 4.0, the significance of flexible job shop scheduling problems is increasing. This study addresses a novel category of NP-hard scheduling problems: the flexible job shop scheduling problems that incorporate site routing and operation sequencing flexibility. These problems are important in various contexts, including carrier-based aircraft scheduling, shipbuilding assembly scheduling, and cutting tool operation scheduling. For these problems, we present two new MILP models: Model-1 is a time-indexed model, and Model-2 is a precedence variable-based model. These models are evaluated under ten cases of the problems. Our findings indicate that the two models exhibit varying solution efficiencies when dealing with problems of diverse magnitudes. Model-2 performs better than Model-1 on small-scale problems, while Model-1 outperforms Model-2 on medium-scale problems.

Malaria is a long-standing disease and one of the top life-threatening diseases, yet its treatment has not changed, while the world has already embraced the fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR). A wave of research on digitizing monitoring mechanisms of such a deadly disease has surfaced. Automated malaria screening is one of the detection processes which are gaining popularity in the research domain. However, the process needs to be coupled with other processes aiming a nationally or regionally contextualised malaria monitoring system. This paper proposes a digital malaria monitoring system in the context of an African country or region. One advantage of such a digital system is that is enables a novel disease spread forecasting model based on the dynamics of different malaria types. The architecture of the diagnosis system is described, and the disease spread model is mathematically modelled in terms of a SPITR (Susceptible-Protected-Infected-Treated-Recovered) epidemic model which is further analysed. The forecasting model is expressed and analysed whereas experiments are conducted using a Monte Carlo simulation method.
