Web caching and prefetching play an important role in improving the performance of Web access in wireless environment. In this paper, we present a compact set of algorithms for integrating Web caching and prefetching for wireless local area network, including sequence-mining based prediction algorithm, context-aware prefetching algorithm and profit-driven caching replacement policy, and then implement them in web caching system OnceEasyCache. We also evaluate this integrated scheme by conducting the trace-based experiments on the OnceEasyCache system.

Emergent wide-area distributed systems like computational grids present opportunities for large scientific applications. On these systems, communication mechanisms have to deal with dynamic resource availability and occurrence of network failures. In this paper, we present the design and implementation of an asynchronous and persistent pipe mechanism, called pi-channels. These communication issues are addressed by combining adaptive caching with data streaming for efficient and fault-tolerant communication. We present the underlying distributed algorithm that implements (a) caching of pipe data segments; (b) asynchronous operation; and (c) re-establishment of connections when a peer leaves and rejoins the computation - part of a communication state transfer mechanism. This makes it possible for different segments (from cache and from writer) of the pipe data to be concurrently streamed to the migrated reader, reducing the retrieval time. Finally, we present some performance results showing the benefits of asynchronous operation.

The paper addresses the challenges and opportunities of instrumenting pervasive computing systems with a logical clock, aware of the quality of synchronization with respect to a time reference. Pervasive computing systems are: i) mobile; ii) dynamic; and iii) composed of a large number of distributed components; in systems with these characteristics the availability of a "smart" clock that is: i) capable to use different mechanisms for the synchronization with the global distributed time reference; and ii) aware of the current quality of synchronization with such time reference, can be very useful in order to build dependable middleware services and applications

HTC (high throughput computing) is a environment that can provide large amounts of processing capacity over long periods of time. To HTC, users are more concerned about how many jobs can be completed in a long period, but not how fast can a single job be finished. Condor, an implementation of HTC, is constructed by commodity CPUs and memory. As long as the Condor nodes are controlled by the Central Management Node, its reliability and scalability had been restricted. Based on the concept of DHT (distributed hash table), this paper presents a new distributed HTC architecture, named CrossTree, which has no central parts, and its metadata is distributed across all nodes in the system. Theoretical analysis and the simulation results proved CrossTree to be an efficient architecture with high scalability and reliability.

Fault-tolerance is an important property of conference key distribution protocol. Recently, Yang et al. proposed an identity-based fault-tolerant conference key distribution scheme which is much different to the traditional ones. But their scheme can not withstand passive attack and modification attack, moreover, it also can not provide forward security. An improved identity-based fault-tolerant conference key distribution scheme is proposed in this paper. Compared with the Yang et al. 's scheme, Tzeng's (2002) scheme and Xun's scheme, the new scheme has illustrated the highest security and its communication cost is intervenient Yang et al. 's scheme and Tzeng's (2002) scheme. As security is the first-line property in conference key establishment protocol, our scheme is the most practical one in the mass.

Many of standard classification algorithms usually assume that the training examples are evenly distributed among different classes. However, unbalanced data sets often appear in many applications. As a simple, effective categorization method, kNN is widely used, but it suffers from biased data sets, too. In developing the Prototype of Internet Information Security for Shanghai Council of Information and Security, we detect that when training data set is biased, almost all test documents of some rare categories are classified into common ones. To alleviate such a misfortune, we propose a novel concept, critical point (CP), and adapt traditional kNN by integrating CP's approximate value, LB or UB, training number with decision rules. Exhaustive experiments illustrate that the adapted kNN achieves significant classification performance improvement on biased corpora.

Currently, multiform network management systems and complex network environment lead the network management system from traditional form for special network to multi-functional intelligent network management system. The paper gives an analysis of the requirements and key enabling technologies for the development of integrated network management system. Based on it, a new integrated network management system (INMS) architecture established above each specific network management system (SNMS) is presented. In the end of this paper, an illustrative example is brought forward which is applying this INMS architecture.

In order to enhance transaction security in wireless sensor networks, it is important to evaluate nodes' trustworthiness. Malicious nodes may strategically alter their behavior for concealing malicious behavior and prompting their reputation. Collusive or malicious behaviors might change the system trust entropy due to their voting ratings are biased. In this paper, according to the basic theory of Shanon informational entropy, the trust entropy and standard structure entropy of distributed entities trustworthiness evaluation are proposed, which be used to detect whether the malicious behavior happened in sensor systems. By simulating experiment, it can detect whether malicious behavior happened where the system is attacked either maliciously, randomly or collusively. Especially in collusive attack, the malicious nodes will boost their clique reputation and drop honest nodes by bad mouthing attack.

This paper makes use of the non-linear relation between dye concentration and textile reflectivity, and the non-linear relation between textile reflectivity and the Lab value of textile to achieve a conclusion that there is a non-linear relation between dye concentration and the Lab value of textile. In addition, this paper uses the RBF (radial basis function) neural network to approximate the relation. The dye concentration is the neural network's input value and the Lab value of textile is the output. To find the optimal formula of color matching, the Genetic Algorithm is also involved in the model. Specifically, let the dye concentration be the individual. The individual serves as the RBF's input, and we use the color difference Delta E between the RBF's output and object color be the fitness function. Compared to the color matching concerning Kubelka-Munk theory, the model possesses some advantages as following: low cost, no assumptions in it, high precision, fast-achieved formula, etc. Experiments prove that this model can quickly provide the users with a satisfying formula.

Many large-scale systems are distributed systems of multiple communicating components. Finding causal paths of message traces between components throughout these systems is important to uncover runtime behaviors and identify the root cause of failures, but this "art" often hides in the heads of developers or domain experts. Our goal is to design tools and algorithms to help developers record this art into logs and help the modestly-skilled users and system administrators master it to make better use and management of distributed systems. In this paper, we present a methodology that automatically builds the causal paths of message traces by 1) an agreement with programmers on the style and content of logs produced by operational distributed systems they develop and 2) a correlation algorithm to build message causal paths with the clues from these logs. To validate this mechanism, we have implemented Gingko, a prototype providing a tool chain for users to gain better comprehensions of distributed systems and to debug them efficiently when errors happen.
