As an innovative distributed computing technique for sharing the memory resources in high-speed network, RAM Grid exploits the distributed free nodes, and provides remote memory for the nodes which are short of memory. One of the RAM Grid systems named DRACO, tries to provide cooperative caching to improve the performance of the user node which has mass disk I/O but lacks local memory. However, the performance of DRACO is constrained with the network communication cost. In order to hide the latency of remote memory access and improve the caching performance, we proposed using push- based prefetching to enable the caching providers to push the potential useful memory pages to the user nodes. Specifically, for each caching provider, it employs sequential pattern mining techniques, which adapts to the characteristics of memory page access sequences, on locating useful memory pages for prefetching. We have verified the effectiveness of the proposed method through system analysis and trace-driven simulations.

This paper proposes a method for extracting the ROI using geometric computations, to obtain information of commonly-interested objects by multiple users. The authors use P2P Delaunay Network to share the regional information shot by cameras with peers, and extract the most intersecting area of camera ranges as ROI. In P2P Delaunay Network, nodes and edges refer to as computers and their connections. This proposed method can construct P2P Delaunay Network using locations of mobile devices as GPS phones or PDAs equipped with a camera, and process computations distributively with these devices. Thereby, a P2P Delaunay network can be constituted, without using the computer resource of other settlements. The method first partitions the plane and assigns the partitions to nodes according to their locations using P2P Delaunay Network. Then, each camera propagates its camera range information to nodes, and each node thus processes computation distributively. The node which has received multiple camera range information computes the intersecting area within its Voronoi region. Finally, the ROI can be determined, by computing the most intersecting area among all nodes. The authors examine the proposed method by evaluating the frequency of region partitioning and data transfer for each node through numerical simulation.

In order to master the relation between the pressure of fully mechanized coalface bracket and the mine coalface moving principle, especially the first coming pressure of the surface of the coal mine influence to bracket, the computer pressure monitor system of fully mechanized coalface bracket in coal mine enterprise based on CAN Bus is developed. The system has dynamic data monitoring function. It could display the setting load of front leg, final resistant pressure and average working resistant pressure of the brackets. It could process data and plot chart in time. When the online pressure comes beyond the maximum value, the software has alarming ability and could create and print a report when it is necessary. It is also important for the managers to make correct decisions. The central host machines support a database. The database stores history curve of working period and all kinds of useful information. It will be advantageous for the safety of workers near the fully mechanized coalface.

In the mobile IPv6 based integration of wireless communication and computer network technology, there is a problem of Ping-pong effect, namely Mobile Nodes(MN) hands over frequently between two access routers, causing location update and registration update to be continually carried out and resulting in communication being constantly interrupted as well as seriously affecting users' Quality of Service (QoS). A novel scheme based on Ping-pong effect for predictive fast handovers for mobile IPv6 is proposed to solve the problems of long latency, high packet loss rate and excessive signaling redundancy in exiting schemes. And in our scheme a new Hop-by-Hop option header named TM (Tunnel Message) header, PCoA Table and Tunnel Table are defined. TM is encapsulated in the acknowledgement of the last packet sent by NAR to PAR, telling PAR that MN would move back to PAR in the near future, and hoping that the previous bidirectional tunnel between PAR and NAR will be available then, so that MN could implement fast and smooth handovers. Analysis shows that this scheme would be viewed as an effective method to solve the above problems and can improve the QoS for mobile users.

Skeletal systems exploit algorithmical skeletons technology to provide the user very high level, efficient parallel programming environments. They have been recently demonstrated to be suitable for highly distributed architectures, such as workstation clusters, networks and grids. However, when using skeletal system for grid programming care must be taken to secure data and code transfers across non-dedicated, non-secure network links. In this work we take into account the cost of security introduction in muskel, a Java based skeletal system exploiting macro data flow implementation technology. We consider the adoption of mechanisms that allow securing all the communications taking place between remote, unreliable nodes and we evaluate the cost of such mechanisms. In particular, we consider the implications on the computational grains needed to scale secure and insecure skeletal computations.

The increasing number of internetworking communication networks and technologies require more and more flexible computing solutions, connecting resources in a transparent, open and reliable way. parallelism and redundancy enables distributed service centers to provide sustained high quality of service and performance. Similar approaches are also used in other distributed systems. Unfortunately, the resulting concurrencies of such systems complicate control and maintenance. In this paper, the authors present the system framework of a distributed service center and a rule-based software for the evaluation of status reports coming from the different components of the distributed service center. This software has been developed for a commercial SMS center. Trouble shooting in the resulting distributed hardware and software system is achieved by using data mining techniques.

This paper proposes a two-tier semantic peer-to-peer network that facilitates efficient search for context information in wide-area networks. Context data with the same semantics are grouped together into a one-dimensional semantic ring space in the upper-tier network. This is achieved by applying an ontology- based semantic clustering technique and dedicating part of node identifiers to correspond to their data semantics. In the lower-tier network, peers in each semantic cluster are organized as Chord identifier space. Thus, all the nodes in the same semantic cluster know which node is responsible for storing context data triples they are looking for, and context queries can be efficiently routed to those nodes. Through the simulation studies, we demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed scheme.

Clusters of computers have become a cost-effective alternative for parallel and distributed computing systems processing computationally intensive tasks. Normally, clusters are composed of high performance computational nodes linked together by low-latency, high-bandwidth interconnection networks. With the advent of modern optical networking technologies, latency in long-distance links is close to that of local-area links. By using service address routed (SAR) optical networks, NEOS-based clusters can be used transparently as single, tightly-coupled clusters of computers, regardless of the distance between their components while keeping a simple service-oriented interface. A performance-wise analysis of such clusters is presented in this work.

Molecular dynamics (MD), a computationally intensive problem, is used by researchers in various fields. The computational parallelism inherent in this application can be exploited in parallel and distributed environments. However, in heterogeneous distributed environments such as the grid, the available resources, namely the network and computational power, are continually changing with respect to every available node. To optimally utilize these dynamic resources, a scheduler should be able to continually adapt to the changes and suitably vary the number of interactions scheduled to each node. We propose one such scheduling algorithm in this paper. MD simulations based on the spatial-decomposition (for short-range potentials) technique assuming heterogeneous compute power and homogeneous links exist in the literature. To the best of our knowledge, this paper is the first to perform a block-level decomposition of the force-matrix for three-body potentials in a distributed environment with heterogeneous compute power with heterogeneous network links while exploiting the symmetries that exist in a three-body force matrix. Our previous work [24] targeted MD simulations using the atom-decomposition method (slice level decomposition of the force-matrix) in a heterogeneous environment. The proposed scheduling algorithm builds and continually updates a model of the distributed system, which it then uses to make decisions about how to optimally redistribute the load in the system at every time step of the MD simulation. The scheduling algorithm can additionally handle dynamic changes in the number of nodes available for computation at runtime. We implement our algorithm and evaluate its effectiveness by measuring the idle fraction which is a measure of the idle time experienced by all compute clients at every time-step. This idle fraction is a load-balance optimality measure that indicates how close the load balancing is to the theoretical optimal of 0%. We find that under m

Graphics processing units (GPUs) are powerful computational devices tailored towards the needs of the 3-D gaming industry for high-performance, real-time graphics engines. Nvidia Corporation released a new generation of GPUs designed for general-purpose computing in 2006, and it released a GPU programming language called CUDA in 2007. The DNA microarray technology is a high throughput tool for assaying mRNA abundance in cell samples. In data analysis, scientists often apply hierarchical clustering of the genes, where a fundamental operation is to calculate all pairwise distances. If there are n genes, it takes O(n^2) time. In this work, GPUs and the CUDA language are used to calculate pairwise distances. For Manhattan distance, GPU/CUDA achieves a 40 to 90 times speed-up compared to the central processing unit implementation; for Pearson correlation coefficient, the speed-up is 28 to 38 times.
