In this paper, a parallel genetic annealing algorithm (GAA) combining with simulated annealing algorithm and genetic algorithms was proposed, which was implemented using distributed computing model that employed OpenMP on four core computer. In this algorithm, several sub-populations replaced the original single population, and each sub-population evolved independently, and the current best individual was distributed into all the sub-populations. The algorithm overcame premature convergence, and found global optima efficiently in less time. And the experiment results shown that the performance had been significantly improved.

Group file operations are a new, intuitive idiom for tools and middleware - including parallel debuggers and runtimes, performance measurement and steering, and distributed resource management - that require scalable operations on large groups of distributed files. The idiom provides new semantics for using file groups in standard file operations to eliminate costly iteration. A file-based idiom promotes conciseness and portability, and eases adoption. With explicit semantics for aggregation of group results, the idiom addresses a key scalability barrier. We have designed TBON-FS, a new distributed file system that provides scalable group file operations by leveraging tree-based overlay networks (TBONs) for scalable communication and data aggregation. We integrated group file operations into several tools: parallel versions of common utilities including cp, grep, rsync, tail, and top, and the Ganglia distributed Monitoring System. Our experience verifies the group file operation idiom is intuitive, easily adopted, and enables a wide variety of tools to run efficiently at scale.

Efficient metadata management is critical in large scale cluster file systems. Based on service separation idea, a novel metadata management architecture is presented in this paper to improve metadata access performance and scalability. Storage management is completely separated from namespace and data services. A storage management server cluster singly deals with storage management. To further reduce metadata server loads, parts of file attributes are also separated from metadata server to storage management server cluster. A prototype system has been designed and implemented, and tests have also been done. Measured performance results are very promising. The performance improvement is nearly linear as storage management server number increasing.

A hierarchical DHT overlay architecture based on P2PSIP is proposed to support a skype-like service. The IETF P2PSIP working group is standardizing a protocol to support any DHT in order to deploy services inside a domain. We extend its functionality to allow the interaction between peers of different domains. Furthermore, we perform an analysis of the routing performance and resource consumption under a skype-like scenario where VoIP calls are more likely to happen among users of the same domain.

During the last decade, using parallel and distributed system has been more general. In these systems a huge size of data or computation is distributed between many systems for getting better performance. Dividing data is one of the challenges in this type of system. Because efficiency of system has direct relation to distributed data. One of proposed method for managing data distribution called divisible load theory. This method is based on this actuality that data in some applications can be divided arbitrarily to some independent parts which each of them can be processed independently from others. In this paper we present a survey on DLT. This article will discuss about some basic concepts for understanding this method. Then some reasons for using it and basic concept and notation used in this method, will be investigated. We will solve an example and some of application of this method will be mentioned.

Fine-grained parallel immune algorithm (FGIA), though a popular and robust strategy for solving complicated optimization problems, is sometimes inconvenient to use as its population size is restricted by heavy data communication and the parallel computers are relatively difficult to use, manage, maintain and may not be accessible to most researchers. In this paper, we propose a FGIA method based on GPU-acceleration, which maps parallel IA algorithm to GPU through the CUDA. We implement the IA on the base of the framework of genetic algorithm (GA), the analytical results demonstrate that the proposed method increases the population size, speeds up its execution and provides ordinary users with a feasible FGIA solution.

Recent research has shown that keyword search is a friendly and potentially effective way to retrieve information of interest over relational databases. Existing work has generally focused on implementing keyword search in centralized databases. This paper addresses keyword search over distributed databases. We adopts distributed hash tables (DHTs) - a peer-to-peer inspired overlay network technology - as the infrastructure to implement keyword search over relational databases. For this end, we combine IR-based ranking techniques with a P2P-based indexing strategy, and propose an effective approach. Extensive experiments over real-world datasets show that our approach is effective and efficient.

With the advent of high bandwidth third-generation mobile networks and other wireless networks, grid computing has migrated from traditional parallel and distributed computing to pervasive and utility computing based on the wireless networks and mobile devices, which results in the emergence of a new computing paradigm named mobile grid. Data replication is widely used in mobile grid environments to reduce access cost and improve data availability. Therefore, replica placement becomes one of important challenges for the replica management in mobile grid environments. This paper addresses the QoS-aware replica placement problem in a tree based mobile grid environments. At the same time this paper proposes a two-step solution for this problem: the first step is a bottom-up dynamic programming approach for placing replicas to satisfy the QoS requirements of mobile users and workload constraint of replicas; then, a binary search based algorithm is used to finish the k replica placement problem in mobile grid environments. Experimental studies show this solution is feasible and efficient for the replica placement problem in mobile grid environments.

Nowadays, many researches are geared towards RFID and mobile technology which are one of the core technologies for realizing ubiquitous computing. In Korea, mobile RFID network services are developed and operated by using mobile networks and mobile devices with a built-in RFID reader. In this paper, we propose a new method of applying RFID middleware based on ALE to mobile RFID network services. For this, we explain a method of mobile RFID code conversion to handle effectively the code in ALE-compliant middleware. By using the proposed method in a mobile RFID network model, application developers and/or contents industries can gather the information from the users of mobile RFID devices in real-time or periodically. Furthermore, it can provide personalized services to users by utilizing it. In this way, we can easily extend ALE-compliant middleware to process not only general but also mobile RFID code.

This paper presents a distributed collaborative approach to XML document clustering. According to a previous study, XML documents are mapped to a transactional domain, based on a data representation model which exploits the notion of XML tree tuple. This XML transactional model is well-suited to the identification of semantically cohesive substructures from XML documents, according to structure as well as content information. The proposed clustering framework employs a centroid-based partitional clustering paradigm in a distributed environment. Each peer in the network is allowed to compute a local clustering solution over its own data, then exchanges cluster centroids with other peers. The exchanged centroids correspond to recommendations offered by a peer to peers allowed to compute global representatives. Exploiting these recommendations, each peer becomes responsible for computing a global set of centroids for a given set of clusters. The overall clustering solution is hence computed in a collaborative way according to data from all the peers. Our approach has been evaluated on real XML document collections varying the number of peers. Results have shown that collaborative clustering leads to accurate overall clustering solutions with a relatively low load in the network.
