The deployment and management of distributed latency-sensitive applications pose significant challenges due to the volatile nature of modern Internet of Things (IoT) edge networks, constrained resources for heterogeneous edge devices, and the increasingly demanding user requirements for service level agreement (SLA) and quality of service (QoS). To address these challenges, Kubernetes (k8s) orchestration platform has emerged, with previous research using heuristics to make scheduling decisions quickly or leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) to adapt to changing circumstances. However, the former often struggle to adapt to highly dynamic and resource-competitive edge environments, while the latter's long decision latency negatively impacts QoS. In this paper, we propose NeiLatS, a heterogeneous cloud-edge cluster scheduling system that addresses these issues. NeiLatS can monitor real-time resource and communication link conditions and make the scheduler latencyaware and location-aware. Additionally, we innovatively propose an efficacy coefficient method with tolerance factor epsilon(epsilon-ECM), which fully accounts for multi-resource load balancing, network stability, and future communication link conditions to resolve the conflict between resource utilization balance and QoS. We test NeiLatS on physical clusters and compare it with five different algorithms. Our evaluation results show a 4.59%-16% improvement in resource load balancing degree, a 41.95%-82.85% reduction in SLA violation rates, and a 1-5x improvement in QoS, which greatly demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed method.

Some applications, like round-based consensus algorithms, require all the nodes from a system to send a message to the same node (the leader) at the same time. In a Mobile Ad-Hoc Network (MANET), this situation is likely to cause collisions and the loss of the messages converging to the leader. The loss of messages is critical in such a situation, since the leader needs to receive a quorum of messages to make a decision. This pattern of communications, called convergecast, can be trivially implemented with a unicast primitive. However, we show that a popular MANET unicast algorithm like Optimized Link State Routing (OLSR) loses a lot of messages, even in the presence of MAC-level collision avoidance mechanisms like CSMA/CA. We propose a new convergecast algorithm that locally schedules answers to a query in a fully distributed manner, in order to avoid their colliding with each other, and that aggregates these answers in order to further decrease the probability of collisions. We show that our algorithm creates far fewer collisions and retries than OLSR, allowing applications like consensus algorithms to reach their quorum sooner.

In order to solve the problem of high memory usage and large GPU computation in the case of a single machine. In this paper, MobileNet and Pytorch deep learning framework and Flink big data computing framework are deeply integrated through DepthWise Convolution technology, and a distributed deep learning model is designed and implemented. Firstly, Pytorch is used to quickly build a neural network to save memory, and then MobileNet is used to quickly improve the running speed of the neural network. Finally, Flink is used for parallel computing and cluster resource scheduling. The experimental comparison shows that the model not only effectively saves the memory occupation, but also greatly reduces the calculation amount of the convolute-onal layer of the neural network, and can maintain high prediction accuracy.

This paper presents a comprehensive study on optimizing resource allocation in cloud computing environments using an ensemble of machine learning techniques and optimization algorithms. We developed a multifaceted approach, integrating Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) networks for forecasting resource demands, Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) for initial resource allocation, Q-learning for dynamic resource adjustment, and Linear Regression (LR) for predicting energy consumption. Our LSTM model demonstrated high accuracy in demand forecasting, with detailed performance metrics indicating its effectiveness in diverse scenarios. The PSO algorithm significantly enhanced the efficiency of resource distribution, evidenced by a reduction in the number of utilized units. Q-learning contributed to the system’s adaptability, optimizing resource allocation based on changing demands in real-time. The LR model accurately predicted energy consumption, aligning closely with observed data and highlighting the potential for energy-efficient cloud management

As the importance of Digital Twin Network (DTN) has become a common sense in the study of 5G, 6G, and future network, the means to implement DTN and the performance challenges in DTN start to be discussed. However, the reproduction compression of DTN, i.e. the design and compression requirements of n:1 reproduction, is a technical gap. Additionally, there is no corresponding technical solution to the time delay of network intelligence calling DTN system. A Tiered Native Digital Twin for Telco (TNDT4Telco) is proposed for future communication systems in this paper, based on the multi-level distributed design philosophy. TNDT4Telco resolves two key issues in DTN design, i.e., n:1 reproduction against huge quantity of raw data, and DTN wake-up time. Numerical evaluation shows that TNDT4Telco can provide 36% total DTN wake-up time saving, and around 10 times gain with different number of parallel DTN tasks in DTN task aggregation performance. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

Memory usage is becoming an increasingly pressing bottleneck in the training process of Deep Neural networks (DNNs), especially when training on Graphics Processing Units (GPUs). Existing solutions for multi-GPU training setups partition the neural network over the GPUs in a way that favors training throughput over memory usage, and thus maximum trainable network size. We propose mCAP, a partitioning solution for pipeline-parallel DNN training that focuses specifically on memory usage. It evenly distributes Deep Learning models over the available resources with respect to per-device peak memory usage. Our partitioning approach uses a novel incremental profiling strategy to extract per-layer memory usage statistics. A model-based predictor uses the profiling data to recommend a partitioning that balances peak memory usage. Our approach is DL-framework agnostic and orthogonal to existing memory optimizations found in large-scale DNN training systems. Our results show that our approach enables training of neural networks that are 1.55 times larger than existing partitioning solutions in terms of the number of parameters.

In recent years, with the rapid development of the Internet of Things, the Internet, and social networks, the storage of data in the network is growing at an explosive rate and is becoming more and more closely related to the real natural world. Driven by large-scale data mining and machine learning applications, distributed graph computing models that use graph data structures to describe data and relationships between data have been increasingly widely used. Therefore, this paper studies the optimization of communication mechanisms based on a distributed graph computing environment. Firstly, a BSP model based on a pure message-passing communication mechanism of a distributed graph computing system is established. Secondly, the optimization model is evaluated from two aspects: data communication and convergence condition judgment. Finally, large-scale data sets are used to test and evaluate performance optimization. The results show that this method can greatly improve the efficiency of graph parallel computing.

With the rapid development of the tourism industry, traditional tourism methods are undergoing significant transformation, and online tourism is gradually becoming a new highlight in the market. However, faced with the challenges of big data, online tourism data experiences tremendous pressure in terms of storage, computation, and management, and the issue of information overload seriously affects the user experience. Therefore, there is an urgent need for innovative platforms and recommendation algorithms to optimize the screening and recommendation of tourism information. This paper proposes an optimization scheme based on the Spark cloud computing platform to improve the efficiency of tourism data processing. First, utilizing Spark's distributed computing and memory management capabilities, tourism data can be stored and processed in a distributed manner, thus accelerating the computation speed of recommendation algorithms. Secondly, a Python-written crawler program is used to obtain real tourism data, including user ratings and comments on attractions, to evaluate the effectiveness of the improved algorithm. Finally, a weighted algorithm combining the LDA topic model is proposed. This algorithm analyzes the topic distribution of comment texts and weights the comments based on user ratings, calculating the predicted score for unrated attractions for the target user, thereby achieving accurate attraction recommendations. The experimental results show that the algorithm proposed in this study demonstrates significant advantages in prediction accuracy.

The large-scale interactive services distribute clients' requests across a large number of physical machine in data center architectures to enhance the quality-of-service (Q4iS) performance. In parallel and distributed data center architecture, even a temporary spike in latency of any service component can significantly impact the end-to-end delay. Besides the average latency, tail-latency (i.e., worst case latency) of a service has also attracted a lot of research attentions. The tail-latency is a critical performance metric in data centers, where long tail latencies refer to the higher percentiles (such as 98th, 99th) of latency in comparison to the average latency time. While the statistical delay-bounded QoS provisioning theory has been shown to be a powerful technique and useful performance metric for supporting time-sensitive multimedia transmissions over mobile computing networks, how to efficiently extend and implement this technique/performance-metric for statistically bounding the tail-latency for data center networks has neither been well understood nor thoroughly studied. In this paper, we model and characterize the tail-latency distribution in a three-layer parallel and distributed data center architecture, where clients request different types of services and ten download their requested data packets from data center through a first-come-first-serve M/M/1 queueing system. We first define the statistical tail-latency bounded QoS, and investigate the tail-latency problem through generalized extreme value (GEV) theory and generalized Pareto distribution (GPD) theory. Then, we propose a scheme to identify the dominant sources of latency variance in a semantic context, so that we are able to optimize the instructions of those sources to reduce the latency tail. Finally, using numerical analyses we validate and evaluate our developed modeling techniques and schemes for characterizing the tail-latency QoS provisioning theories in supporting data center networ

Vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) play a vital role in ensuring the success of Intelligent transport systems (ITS), but the architecture of VANETs is vulnerable to several security attacks. There are also some challenges associated with VANETs such as the management of large-scale dynamic heterogeneous networks and secure communication over the network. The research community stressed on the integration of Software-defined Networking (SDN) with traditional VANETs to address these challenges. The SDN enhances the functionality of traditional VANETs by adding a centralised control mechanism, programmability, and flexibility *** SDN also mitigates some security issues in VANETs to a limited degree. However, SDN's inherent features introduce new security vulnerabilities mainly in the control plane. This paper first examines the characteristics of SDN when integrated with VANETs. Then, this paper discusses the new security vulnerabilitiesthat arise as a result of the integration of SDN into VANET architecture. The mostcritical security attack in SDN-based VANETs is Denial of Service (DoS) attack. This paper also examines different types of DoS attacks in SDN-based VANETs along with their potentialdefence mechanisms. Finally, this paper highlights the future research directions in the domain of securing the network operations of SDN-based VANETs.
