An Orchestrator is a system which is used for coordinating and sequencing the services, processes and threads in the number of applications. Orchestrator is a coordinator which provides controlling of different computational services or processes or threads. It manages services and data processing in distributed environment at the same time considering priorities, timeouts and failures of services. In this paper a design framework of Orchestrator is developed and presented. This design considers an Orchestrator as super class for the different type of concurrent computing systems- Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) based computing, parallel distributed computing and sequential distributed computing. These systems can be derived as the special classes of the Orchestrator design framework given in this paper. The same framework can also be used in robotics and control systems.

We present a novel parallel auction algorithm implementation for solving the linear sum assignment problem. It is implemented using the message passing interface (MPI) on a computer cluster. Our approach enables dynamic computational load balancing over all processors throughout all steps of the algorithm's execution. We show that the performance of our approach is superior to existing approaches in the literature.

Multimedia streaming applications have disruptively occupied bandwidth in wire line Internet, yet today's fledging mobile media streaming still poses many challenges in efficient content distribution due to the form of mobile devices. At the same time, cloud computing is gaining power as a promising technology to transform IT industry and many eminent enterprises are developing their own cloud infrastructures. However, the lack of applications hinders clouds' large-scale implementation. In this paper, we envision a cloud-assisted power-efficient mobile P2P media streaming architecture that addresses the weakness of today's wireless access technologies. Clouds are responsible for storage and computing demanding tasks, and mobile devices colocating with each other share bandwidth and cooperatively stream media content to distribute the load. We first model interactions among mobile devices as a coalition game, and then discuss the optimal chunk retrieval scheduling. Finally, we draw on realistic mobile phone data and utilize an ARIMA model for colocation duration prediction among mobile devices.

Peer-to-peer systems are highly dynamic systems, with permanent changes in their configurations, as peers may join and leave the system with no restriction or control. This makes monitoring an important element for several applications, especially for fault management: fault detection and fault recovery. As the system may have a large number of nodes, we need a scalable algorithm, able to guarantee a fast convergence no matter what the structure of the network is. Epidemic-style or gossip-based algorithms offer solutions for various topics in large-scale distributed systems. Even though they present many advantages due to their property of continuously spreading the information across the system in a reactive and proactive fashion, several problems such as the total number of messages exchanged between peers and the number of rounds required for ensuring the convergence of the algorithm appear. In this paper we present a gossip-based algorithm for monitoring large-scale distributed systems and we analyze its efficiency in a simulated environment provided by OverSim.

A key issue related to the distributed memory multiprocessors architecture for achieving high performance computing is the efficient scheduling of heavily communicated parallel applications such that the total execution time is minimized. Therefore, this paper provides a genetic algorithm based on task clustering techniques for scheduling parallel applications with large communication delays on distributed memory parallel systems. The genetic algorithm is improved with the introduction of some extra knowledge about the scheduling problem. This knowledge is represented by a class of clustering heuristic which is based on structural properties of the parallel application. The major feature of the proposed algorithm is that it takes advantage of the effectiveness of task clustering for reducing communication delays combined with the ability of the genetic algorithms for exploring and exploiting information of the search space of the scheduling problem. The algorithm is assessed by simulation run on some families of traced graphs which represents some of the numerical parallel application programs, and a set of randomly generated applications. Simulation results showed that this algorithm significantly improves the performance of related approaches.

Service Level Agreements (SLAs) play an important role in guaranteeing successful collaborations among autonomous entities in Internet-based Virtual computing Environment (iVCE). However, traditional static and predefined SLAs are not suitable for the open and dynamic iVCE. This paper proposes a policy-based framework for supporting dynamic and automated SLA negotiations between autonomous entities in iVCE. Requirements or constraints on SLA attributes as well as negotiation strategies of negotiating parties are both specified in policy specifications using a simple but expressive policy language that extends the WS-Policy framework. According to these policies, a negotiation agent will be dynamically created for each negotiation party, which is responsible for SLA negotiations on behalf of its owner party. We have implemented a prototype of our framework and demonstrated our approach through a case study.

With the popularity of virtualization, the problem that how to manage hundreds even thousands of virtual machines running on multiple physical computing nodes becomes important. Current virtual machine management systems only can obtain basic information of virtual machines and execute simple operations on them, such as start, reboot and shutdown. In this paper, we design a virtual machine management approach based on agent service. Agent service can provide detail running status information inside virtual machines. It also has been a bridge for host machines and virtual machines to interact with each other. Agent service is designed to automatically start when virtual machine boots up. By agent service we can get real-time information about virtual machines. We evaluate monitoring overhead and the performance of batch operations when using agent. The experimental results show that agent mechanism outperforms methods using Libvirt or VMware tools.

parallel programming/execution frameworks for multicore platforms should support as many applications as possible. In general, work-stealing frameworks provide efficient load balancing even for irregular parallel applications. Unfortunately, naive parallel programs for ``general computations'' governed by rewriting rules over configurations (system states) cause stack overflow or unacceptable load imbalance. In this study, we develop parallel programs to perform probabilistically balanced divide-and-conquer graph traversals. We propose a programming technique for accumulating overflowed calls for the next iteration of repeated parallel stages. In an emerging backtracking-based work-stealing framework called "Tascell," which avoids excessive concurrency, we propose a programming technique for long-term use of workspaces, leading a similar technique in the Cilk framework.

It is now critical to reduce the consumption of natural resources, especially petroleum to resolve air pollutions. Even in information systems, we have to reduce the total electrical power consumption. A cloud computing system is composed of a huge number of server computers like Google file systems. There are many discussions on how to reduce the total power consumption of servers, e.g. by turning off servers which are not required to execute requests from clients. A Peer-to-Peer (P2P) system is another type of information system which is composed of a huge number of peer computers where various types of applications are autonomously performed. In this talk, I would like to discuss how to reduce the total electric energy consumption of types of distributed systems, i.e. computers interconnected in networks. We consider two types of distributed applications, transaction-based and communication-based applications. In the transaction-based applications, CPU resources are mainly consumed like Web applications. On the other hand, in the communication-based applications, a large volume of data is transmitted in the network like file transfer applications. Based on the experimental studies of computers and networks, we would like to discuss models which show how much electric power is consumed in distributed systems for types of applications. Finally, we would like to discuss how to allocate processes/requests to computers so that not only some requirements (like time constraint) are satisfied but also the total electric power consumption is minimized.

We present a monitoring system for large-scale parallel and distributed computing environments that allows to trade-off accuracy in a tunable fashion to gain scalability without compromising fidelity. The approach relies on classifying each gathered monitoring metric based on individual needs and on aggregating messages containing classes of individual monitoring metrics using a tree-based overlay network. The MRNet-based prototype is able to significantly reduce the amount of gathered and stored monitoring data, e.g., by a factor of ~56 in comparison to the Ganglia distributed monitoring system. A simple scaling study reveals, however, that further efforts are needed in reducing the amount of data to monitor future-generation extreme-scale systems with up to 1,000,000 nodes. The implemented solution did not had a measurable performance impact as the 32-node test system did not produce enough monitoring data to interfere with running applications.
