Electricity bill charges usually dependents on the amount of electricity usage. The increment in the electricity usage will cause the users to pay more. This situation always happens when users are not aware about their growing usage. Hence, a system is needed where it can monitor and measure the electricity usage and update users on the increasing electricity utilization. This paper will discuss about EMD research methodology and process development of a device to monitoring real-time electricity utilization. This system will indirectly help the users to monitor the amount of electricity usage which will help them to control and overcome wastage of electric power. © 2011 IEEE.

This paper describes a new tool - ASHAN ('Alphabets and Scripts by Hand and Audio, Naturally') -for learning scripts and languages. The problem of illiteracy is universal affecting about 16% of the human race. Only technological tools can accelerate the process of meeting the millennium goals as the paradigms of learning and teaching are changing. ASHAN - a computer with a touch screen and special S/W - can enhance the learning of the scripts of any language. The screen monitor may be divided into two or three logical windows. One window will render the script that is pressed on the keyboard to show how the script is formed while a recorded voice would pronounce that script. On the second window the learner draws or writes the alphabet using the index finger looking at the second window, and pronounces it. A prototype is ready for Devanagari script that is used for several Indian languages including Hindi. © 2011 IEEE.

This paper presents an efficient and real time novel approach for hand region segmentation with an aim to achieve hand gesture recognition under varying illumination. The overall methodology is a two step process: (a) to achieve the segmentation of the hand from the complex background and (b) to recognize the hand gesture efficiently and accurately. Hand segmentation is achieved using block based picture information ratio and recognition is done using Principal Component Analysis (PCA). In the experimental results four basic hand gestures have been considered which were recognized consistently in complex but near constant background and varying illumination. The prototype has been developed in X86, tested with live videos captured by low cost webcams. It performs with 98% accuracy in real time. © 2011 IEEE.

This research study stress upon the qualified or comparative analysis between commercial and noncommercial Enterprise Service Buses (ESB) for large-scale organizations. We have used Multi Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) method known as Analytical Hierarchy process (AHP) based on three criteria i.e. Information Security, Interoperability & High availability. Many comparative analysis reports and papers are available having proven results of comparing non-commercial ESB(s), however, very few reports were found having performed their analysis on commercial ESB(s). We have performed this analysis on the basis of tabular and mathematical proofs by comparing commercially known ESB i.e. Oracle ESB with two noncommercial yet very famous ESB(s) i.e. Mule & Fuse. This research analysis will motivate decision makers to choose the best rated ESB on the basis of our criteria. To achieve our objective we have presented the problem as hierarchy, established the priorities, criteria and performed mathematical computing to prove our analysis. © 2011 IEEE.

Here we present a way to perform visual tracking tasks using a synthetic aperture camera array. When using such a device, depth information on salient objects can easily be recovered by shifting the distance of a virtual focal plane relative to the synthetic camera while maximizing contrast. To support the process we propose a spatial attention scheme. The scheme allows distributed software modules to search for an acceptable depth estimate by iterating over possible interpretations of previously acquired images by implementing an anytime-algorithm.

Wireless Ad-hoc Networks have been proposed for variety of applications. In this paper our goal is to find crisis points in the roads, such as accident locations, and asphalt-destruction points, which may cause traffics along the roads. The applied method for traffic prediction is based on back propagation algorithm. In this paper the length of packets are assumed to be constant. Along the road the traffic is modeled by a Poisson process. With this model we can produce packets. The number of packets which are sending from a typical node to the other nodes is controlled by a fuzzy system. By appropriate training of a neural network, we have shown that, having the traffic packets at time (t) for each node, we can predict the traffic of each node at next time successfully. © 2011 IEEE.

Although segmentation of biomedical image data has been paid a lot of attention for many years, this crucial task still meets the problem of the correctness of the obtained results. Especially in the case of optical microscopy, the ground truth (GT), which is a very important tool for the validation of image processing algorithms, is not available. We have developed a toolkit that generates fully 3D digital phantoms, that represent the structure of the studied biological objects. While former papers concentrated on the modelling of isolated cells (such as blood cells), this work focuses on a representative of tissue image type, namely human colon tissue. This phantom image can be submitted to the engine that simulates the image acquisition process. Such synthetic image can be further processed, e. g. deconvolved or segmented. The results can be compared with the GT derived from the digital phantom and the quality of the applied algorithm can be measured.

There are various methods to measure the value of synchronization of signals. These methods usually do not consider the sources of the signals. Therefore, these methods usually underestimate the coupling phenomena of the sources of the system that generate the signals. The efficiency of these methods depends mainly on the signals, e.g. whether narrow or broad band. But, according to the system equations or at least equations of an appropriate model of the signals, which also consider the sources and the coupling between them, the estimation of the synchronization values would be more accurate. In this paper we represent an approach to obtain the values of synchronization of some synthetic depth-EEG signals according to their relevant state-space equations. The signals under study are produced by a multi-channel model of epileptic EEG signals. The approach is based on identification of the underlying physiological parameters relevant to each channel of EEG signals. Accordingly, the values of coupling of each two signals then are computed through an optimization process and are used as a measure of synchronization. Results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms the nonlinear correlation coefficient (h2), Pearson correlation coefficient (R2) and mean phase coherence methods that up to now are found to be the most efficient algorithms. Since the implied model can be taken as a model of real depth-EEG signals, the proposed algorithm will be useful in obtaining the synchronization of different areas of the hippocampus.

In this paper, a new approach in predicting the flank wear of Titanium Aluminum Nitrite (TiAlN) coatings using Adaptive Network Based Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) is implemented. TiAlN coated cutting tool is widely used in machining due to its excellent resistance to wear. The TiAlN coatings were formed using Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) magnetron sputtering process. The substrate sputtering power, bias voltage and temperature were selected as the input parameters and the flank wear as an output of the process. A statistical design of experiment called Response Surface Methodology (RSM) was used in collecting optimized data. The ANFIS model was trained using the limited experimental data. The triangular, trapezoidal, bell and Gaussian shapes of membership functions were used for inputs as well as output. The results of ANFIS model were validated with the testing data and compared with fuzzy rule-based and RSM flank wear models in terms of the root mean square error (RMSE), co-efficient determination (R2) and model accuracy (A). The result indicated that the ANFIS model using three bell shapes membership function obtained better result compared to the fuzzy and RSM flank wear models. The result also indicated that the ANFIS model could predict the output response in high prediction accuracy even using limited training data. © 2011 IEEE.

A dynamic model for the thermal system of a PEM fuel cell stack is proposed in this paper. It is based on the theory of heat transfer and mass transfer. And it is intended to be used for system analysis and control. The model can not only predict the variables and states in steady case, it can also describe their transient process when the output current varies with load. Besides, it can give insight of the states of different parts of the fuel cell stack. The simulation results show the model is valid and useful.
