Recent studies have suggested that Model Predictive controllers (MPC) could benefit single-input single-output (SISO) systems. However, some key factors inhibiting MPC implementation are the efforts associated with plant tests and the need for expert knowledge on the design and tuning. Moreover, plant tests are time-consuming;they interfere with process operations and can even lead to instability in extreme cases. This paper mitigates these problems by generating a model predictive controller starting with a pre-tuned PI controller and routine plant data. This paper presents the studies of relevant methodologies, which was then harmonized into a concise algorithm. A genetic algorithm was used with routine plant data to obtain the MPC parameters. These parameters are used to design an MPC that gives similar performance to a pre-tuned PI controller. Monte Carlo simulations were used to demonstrate the method's viability. Results show that the respective MPC-parameters' mean values converges to their actual values. Hence, this is critical in developing MPC from routine plant data.

Organizations have an increasing need to adapt faster their Information systems to technical, functional and legal changes. One way proposed in the literature is to make a deep process analysis in order to have a better comprehension of the business process (BP) and adapt it to its new context. In this paper, we propose a meta model for a BP contextualization solution. The solution links a BP with business data and contextual data (weather, urban traffic, etc.) using semantics. We apply it to a commodity palletization process from our commodity traceability project and we conclude that it provides business expert with additional contextual data that impacted the BP execution.

This study defines the sustainable and suitable route planning for transmission line by using Analytic Hierarchy process (AHP) based on Geographical Information System (GIS) approached. The criteria needed to be taken into account to define the route of the transmission line were evaluated with expert who doing this business in the available system for this study. For determine of the suitable route, many factors which affect the route should be considered all together. Some of these factors are (i) technical factors (ii) environmental factors (iii) social-economic factors. Each of these factors basically corresponds to a spatial dataset. Routes defined with AHP (Analytical Hierarchy process) to minimize economic, environmental and time cost and depending on the quality of data used.

This paper describes the methodology and solution to automate and monitor a sewage treatment plant from an industry dedicated to the manufacture of wood panels. The control system designed, not only governs all elements of performance of the plant, but also oversees its proper functioning. It also has a human-machine interface with a daily working and emergency program, accompanied by an information system supported by records and alarms to facilitate human decisions making if were necessary. The proposed solution, not only increases the reliability and safety of the process with respect to plants or other type semi-automatic operation, but also reduces costs by improving process efficiency and minimizes costs in maintenance and monitoring.

Open source tools for Knowledge Representation in databases and the implementation of a real time expert system for mineral processing operations (size reduction and enrichment) are discussed. The use of a column-oriented database system (Infobright iee) to store quantitative data from sensors that measure feed size distribution, feed rate, aeration rate, pulp density, pH and temperature allows low latency database query responses and real time process control and analysis. Qualitative metadata can be generated with the use of mathematical process models (simulation outputs, reduction equations, transforms), and from the natural language analysis of process data (reagents and ore mineralogy). The toolkits Wordnet and the Natural Language Toolkit (NLTK) were used for metadata generation, processing qualitative text information present in process databases, and for generating data for subsequent inference engine rule checking. We took advantage of the power and ease of the programming language Python to implement a framework for fuzzy and rough set rules generation, and to create an on-line-analytical-processing (OLAP) system for reporting production process parameters. © 2010 ieeE.

The collaborative design is an important style for modern design. But the conflict appears in the process of design which may interface the design. Case-based reasoning (CBR) is a good method for conflict resolution, which has been applied in the artificial intelligence field successfully. However, due to the uncertainties in knowledge representation, attribute description, and similarity measures of CBR, it is very difficult to find the similar cases from case database. To solve the problem of conflict resolution in collaborative design, a fuzzy case-based reasoning (CBR) is proposed. The process of fuzzy case-based reasoning (CBR) is introduced. Based on the feature attributes and their relative weights determined by a fuzzy technique, a fuzzy CBR retrieving mechanism is developed to retrieve conflict resolution cases that tend to enhance the functions of the database. The theory and methods of fuzzy CBR is applied to define the cases. By indexing, calculating the weight and defuzzication of the cases, the case similarity can be obtained. Then the case consistency is measured to keep the result right. Finally, the method is demonstrated availably for conflict resolution by means of a case study.

This paper presents an obstacle-navigation control strategy for a mobile robot suspended on overhead ground wires of 500Kv extra-high voltage (EHV) power transmission lines, based on a novel movement mechanism. The control system of the mobile robot is based on a hybrid architecture expert system, which is mainly composed of a knowledge base and inference engine and can be applied to obstacle-navigation autonomously. In the control system, environment state data and fuzzified obstacle-data are input to the expert system so that the process of obstacle-navigation can be generated. Hence, joints variables can be calculated by solving the robot kinematics equations. According to the obstacle-navigation process and the calculated joints variables, the controller drives the motor rotations and the robot can overcome the obstacles. © 2006 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.
