Although the modernized Maritime Transportation systems (MTS) have experienced meaningful advancements and benefits from the adoption of Internet of Things (IoT) technology, security, reliability and privacy issues have increased extensively. The federation of multiple maritime stakeholders in the flow of transportation management and schedule exacerbates these issues, with the MTS to encounter escalating attacks dealing with data manipulation and unauthorized access that pose risks of high severity in MTS. Therefore, the maritime IoT infrastructures require to transition from centralized to distributed networks with access control policies, strong identity authentication and private communication systems that cannot be manipulated by unauthorized stakeholders. Blockchain has recently emerged as a key technology for addressing data security and privacy issues. However, this integration can introduce substantial delays in maritime services. In this paper, we propose the SEAGuard framework, particularly designed and developed for addressing security and privacy issues specific to MTS. A virtualized testbed is built to evaluate the SEAGuard framework that is developed on-top of Hyperledger Fabric and the InterPlanetary File system (IPFS). The results illustrate exceptional performance metrics with minimum latency and high throughput, less than 4 ms and more than 70 transactions per second, respectively.

As robots increasingly navigate shared spaces alongside humans, the necessity of ensuring responsible interactions between robots, humans, and the environment, aligned with shared values, becomes evident. In response to this need, recent years have witnessed numerous efforts to embed human and social norms into robotics systems. In this paper, we present a pioneering application of the ieee 7007-2021 standard: the Norm-Oriented Robotic Navigation (NORN) system. By applying the ieee 7007-2021 standard and incorporating the Ethically Driven Robotics and Automation systems (ERAS) core ontology, NORN showcases the feasibility of integrating ethical considerations and responsible decision-making into real-world robotic systems. Through an experiment involving the execution of a navigation algorithm by a physical robot, we demonstrate the NORN system's ability to navigate while adhering to norms delineated by ethical principles. This work serves as a proof of concept, illustrating the potential of the ieee 7007 standard to guide responsible and trustworthy robotic decision-making processes. As the coexistence of robots and humans becomes increasingly prevalent, the NORN system represents a step towards promoting ethical behavior and societal trust in autonomous systems.

The applications of the Internet of Things (IoT) have grown significantly both in scope and complexity. IoT devices are becoming an integral part of our daily lives. This significant growth in IoT adoption is accompanied by a substantial increase in the interest of malicious actors. IoT devices are a preferred target for malicious actors due to their inherent vulnerabilities and limited computational resources, which make them difficult to protect and secure. This study introduces a novel ensemble learning-based intrusion detection system (IDS) using network flow features. The goal of the proposed system is to achieve both simplicity and high detection accuracy. The novelty behind the system lies in using a new feature called "history", extracted from flow information, combined with traditional features. The core classification engine includes bidirectional long short-term memory (BiLSTM) and multilayer perceptron (MLP) classifiers, with a decision tree (DT) classifier finalizing the decision-making process. The proposed system has been evaluated using a public IoT network dataset with an accomplished accuracy of 99.6%. The system has achieved results comparable to those of other systems that are more complex. The obtained results demonstrate the superior performance of the proposed ensemble learning-based system in comparison to conventional network-flow-based intrusion detection systems.
