Blockchain, as the underlying technique of cryptocurrency, has triggered a wave of innovation in decentralized computing. Despite some research on blockchain data query, a primary concern for blockchain to be fully practical is to combat the data query inefficiency and query result authenticity. To provide both efficient and verifiable data query services for blockchain-based systems, we propose a Verifiable Query Layer (VOL). the middleware layer extracts transactions stored in the underlying blockchain system and efficiently reorganizes them in databases to provide various query services for public users. To prevent falsified data being stored in the middleware, a cryptographic hash value is calculated for each constructed database. the database fingerprint including the hash value and some database properties will be first verified by miners and then stored in the blockchain. We implement VQL and conduct extensive experiments based on a practical blockchain system Ethereum. the evaluation results demonstrate that VQL can effectively support various data query services and guarantee the authenticity of query results for the blockchain system.

With the rapid development of the network, a huge amount of data will be generated. Existing technologies usually use cloud computing to process data. However, when all the data of users need to be transferred to the cloud for processing, it will cause long transmission delay due to the distance between users and cloud computing data center. Fog computing connects network edge devices downward and cloud data center upward, which greatly shortens the transmission distance of user data. Fog computing is an effective way to solve the problems of high delay, bandwidth bottleneck and security. In this paper, we have developed an optimization method, which establish an optimization problem with minimum average task delay as optimization objective and various system resources. By variable substitution, the nonconvex optimization problem is equivalent to a new optimization problem whose objective is nonconvex and all constraints are convex. In order to solve the global optimal solution of the nonconvex optimization problem, a new lower bound is designed by relaxing the objective to a lower bound quadratic function. We have evaluated our system by simulation test. the results verify the effectiveness of the optimization method. © 2020 ieee.

the volume of spatial data increases at a staggering rate. this tutorial comprehensively studies how existing works extend Apache Spark to uphold massive-scale spatial data. During this 1.5 hour tutorial, we first provide a background introduction of the characteristics of spatial data and the history of distributed data management systems. A follow-up section presents the common approaches used by the practitioners to extend Spark and introduces the vital components in a generic spatial data management system. the third, fourth and fifth sections then discuss the ongoing efforts and experience in spatial temporal data, spatial data analytics and streaming spatial data, respectively. the sixth part finally concludes this tutorial to help the audience better grasp the overall content and points out future research directions.

In this paper, we address the issue of designing an effective distributed real-time pricing scheme in the smart grid and investigating its security resilience when the data integrity attack is in place. Different from existing research efforts, in this paper we develop a distributed real-time pricing scheme, which can maximize the welfare of all participants and improve the resilience to system failures, as well as consider both renewable and traditional power resources. By leveraging the distributed approach, we leverage the gradient projection mechanism to solve the distributed real-time pricing problem in participants' smart meters to improve the resilience to system failures. We also investigate the vulnerabilities of the distributed real-time pricing scheme by considering one typical data integrity attack, which can inject false data into communication interfaces. Via a combination of both theoretical analysis and performance evaluation, we demonstrate that the proposed distributed scheme can effectively guide the participants to achieve individual welfare maximization. Our findings also show that data integrity attacks can disrupt the distributed real-time pricing, posing a damage to the welfare of participants.

this survey paper focuses on the security of hypervisors in the cloud. Topics covered in this paper include attacks that allow a malicious virtual machine (VM) to compromise the hypervisor, as well as techniques used by malicious VMs to steal more than their allocated share of physical resources, and ways to bypass the isolation between the VMs by using side-channels to steal data. Also discussed are the security requirements and architectures for hypervisors to successfully defend against such attacks.

this paper studies the problem of resource management and placement for high performance clouds. It is concerned with the three most important performance metrics: response time, throughput, and utilization as Quality of Service (QoS) metrics defined in a Service Level Agreement (SLA). We propose SLA-based approaches for resource management in clouds. Specifically, we first quantify the metrics of trustworthiness, a percentile of response time, and availability. then, this paper provides the formulation of cloud resource management as a nonlinear optimization problem subject to SLA requirements and further gives the solution of the problem. Finally, we give a solution of this nonlinear optimization problem and demonstrate the effectiveness of proposed solutions through illustrative examples.

With the coming of the era of big data, people are more concerned about data privacy. On the one hand, the users are more eager for fresh and low-latency search results than ever before. On the other hand, they do not want to open the search criteria. To this end, this paper proposes a scalable distributed private stream search system, in which the search criteria is hidden by homomorphic encryption technique with three buffers. Most importantly, the system adopts shared-nothing architecture to support the horizontal scalability, and partitions the stream into segments to achieve parallel query and bitmap index-based storage. Experimental results show the effectiveness and efficiency of our method on private stream search.

Online social networks (OSNs) suffer from various security and privacy problems. the main source of the security problems is the central service provider that observes users' data and relationships. distributed OSN (DOSN) is an alternative approach where users control their data without having any central service provider. In DOSNs, for the sake of data availability, users replicate or cache data in other users of the OSN. the replica nodes are indeed another kind of service provider in a small scale and with a local view. therefore, even though decentralization removes the global view of the single provider, it results in having several small ones. By this claim, centralized and distributed OSNs have several common security concerns. Although there exist prior studies discussing and classifying security issues, a fine grained classification of various state-of-the-art solutions is not available. In this paper, we focus on the data privacy, data integrity, and secure social search solutions for centralized and distributed OSNs. Furthermore, we discuss open security problems and concerns, that can be used as future research directions.

Skip Graph, as a distributed hash table (DHT) based data structure, plays a key role in peer-to-peer (P2P) storage systems, distributed online social networks, search engines, and several DHT-based applications. In the Skip Graph structure, node identifiers define the connectivity. However, traditional identifier assignment algorithms do not consider the Skip Graph nodes' locations. Neglecting the nodes' localities in the identifier assignments results in high end-to-end latency in the overlay network which negatively affects the overall system performance. In this paper, we propose a method to assign the Skip Graph node identifiers considering their location information and make the nodes locality aware. In the proposed dynamic and fully decentralized algorithm, named DPAD, instead of assigning node identifiers uniformly at random, locality aware identifiers will be assigned to the nodes at their arrival to the system based on their distances to some super-nodes named landmarks. We define locality awareness as the similarity of the distances between the nodes in the overlay and underlay networks. Performance analysis results show that DPAD algorithm provides about 82% improvement in the locality awareness of node identifiers and about 40% improvement in the search query end-to-end latency, compared to the best known static and dynamic algorithms.
