As an integral part of reliable communication in wireless networks, effective link estimation is essential for routing protocols. However, due to the dynamic nature of wireless channels, accurate link quality estimation remains a challenging task. In this paper, we propose 4C, a novel link estimator that applies link quality prediction along with link estimation. Our approach is data-driven and consists of three steps: data collection, offline modeling and online prediction. the data collection step involves gathering link quality data, and based on our analysis of the data, we propose a set of guidelines for the amount of data to be collected in our experimental scenarios. the modeling step includes offline prediction model training and selection. We present three prediction models that utilize different machine learning methods, namely, naive Bayes classifier, logistic regression and artificial neural networks. Our models take a combination of PRR and the physical layer information, i.e., Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI), Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) and Link Quality Indicator (LQI) as input, and output the success probability of delivering the next packet. From our analysis and experiments, we find that logistic regression works well among the three models with small computational cost. Finally, the third step involves the implementation of 4C, a receiver-initiated online link quality prediction module that computes the short temporal link quality. We conducted extensive experiments in the Motelab and our local indoor testbeds, as well as an outdoor deployment. Our results with single and multiple senders experiments show that with 4C, CTP improves the average cost of delivering a packet by 20% to 30%. In some cases, the improvement is larger than 45%.

Depth map prediction is the key point in Free Viewpoint Video *** current depth map estimation approaches,combined temporal and interview prediction method is the most practical one for hardware design and real time *** is based on block search inter-prediction on various block size to get the best estimation result with specific cost *** much data processing bandwidth can be saved by reusing of hardware and computation resources in disparity vector prediction,it still needs to calculate all block size cost results,and has disparity prediction errors at object boundary or continuous areas,resulting in block effect and prediction noises in depth *** paper presents an efficient adaptive soft decision method based on chrominance image *** best prediction block size is pre-determined before block search *** much calculation efforts are *** specific block size computation is executed to get the best disparity vector prediction,instead of selecting the best one from all block size calculation *** results show that the adaptive soft decision method can enhance depth map quality efficiently with less prediction errors and computation *** is suitable for hardware realization and real time processing.

With the rapid increase of multimedia technology [1], [2], the support of network traffic has become an important issue. thus many protocols have been developed to address this issue in different network layers such as Real Time Streaming Protocol (RTSP) [3], Smooth Streaming [4] in application layer, and Real time Protocol (RTP) in transport layer. the common characteristic of these protocols is the requirement of data smoothing to support modern application like intelligent home and vehicular network. In addition, smart phone and wireless sensor network(WSN) [5] do not support all protocols, indeed, they may only support Transmission Control Protocol(TCP) or User Data gram Protocol(UDP). this implies that the network bandwidth will nor be good enough to play high quality multimedia streaming and support complicated network structure. In this paper, we present a smooth data streaming approach on application layer to reduce packet retransmission and improve performance. the proposed approach can provide smooth data streaming and reduce response time with the aid of data caching or data compression without increase the complexity of network protocol. In order to decrease the development complexity arising from UDP, instead, we implement the proposed approach based on TCP. We also analyze the impact of this work and discuss challenges in TCP in this paper. the result shows that the proposed approach can stabilize smooth data transmission and improve performance by 20% to 35% for benchmarks.

We introduce the design of an integrated navigation system for autonomous landing of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) based on computer vision. Our task is emphasized in improving the practicability, robustness, real-time and accuracy of integrated system: We use an adaptive threshold selection method to make our algorithm more robust;An effective object recognition algorithm based on template matching is implemented to improve the recognition rate;We propose an improved image segmentation method which optimize execution efficiency of the algorithm;the experiment results prove that our algorithm is fast (average processing time below 60ms), accurate (recognition rate over 94.7%, the angle error below 4°, the position error below 5cm), and robust (can distinguish several suspected targets). In addition, based on this system we won the champion of the aerial robotics group for 2009 Chinese Robotics Competition.

To improve the reliability and real-time performance when monitoring the urban municipal swear gas a security monitoring and early warning system for sewer gas was developed and used in Chongqing *** system is a sort of remote,on-line supervision platform for sewer gas monitoring based on general packet radio service(GPRS) comprising sensor module,signal processing module,data transmission module and supervision center *** location of municipal sewer in which the combustible gas(mainly CH 4) concentration exceeds the explosion limit can be displayed in time and *** annual successful sending rate reaches 99.3%,and the relative deflection error is restricted within 1%.the construction of the monitoring system provides an effective basis for preventing the explosion and poisoning caused by the combustible gas leakage in the sewers.

STBC-MIMO network coding with adaptive spatial modulation for the asymmetric channel and traffic is proposed in this paper. the proposed scheme can select the suitable modulation level every wireless link. In this paper, the throughput performance on the asymmetric channel of the proposed scheme are evaluated by computer simulation. As a result, it is shown that proposed the scheme is effective to achieve the high efficiency two-way network even if the asymmetric channel or traffic compared with the conventional MIMO schemes.

Recently the cost-benefits of automated sensing over traditional field surveys for population management of fauna has been recognised [1,2]. Remote monitoring through automatic identification based on sensor networks has followed one of two approaches [3,7,18];using the sensor nodes to perform data analysis within the network or alternatively using the sensor network as a means for collecting data to be centrally processed. In either case a key goal is minimising power consumption in sensor nodes which imposes constraints on both processing and communication capabilities. While the first approach aims to minimise communication requirements the other aims to reduce processing requirements. In the context of sensor networks for remote monitoring utilising centralised processing, this paper considers the impact on two different strategies for reducing communication requirements on the overall system performance.

In this paper, we propose an iteration scheme for the virtual layered space frequency communication architecture. the architecture enables the decoding of the transmitted orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM)-QPSK signals even if the number of spatial multiplexed layers is twice that of receiving antennas over multipath fading channels. In the proposed iteration scheme, the MAP decoder and detector exchange soft information on the virtual channel. Using the soft informations, the architecture achieves much higher performance with lower computational complexity compared to maximum likelihood detection (MLD) even when the punctured code is used. Consequently, a gain of 4.5 dB can be achieved at a BER of 10-3 compared to that achieved with the MLD in the 4 x 2 MIMO-OFDM system when the rate 3/4 punctured code is used. the performance of the proposed architecture is verified by carrying out computer simulations.

A novel iterative localization algorithm based on Particle Filter with error control is proposed in this paper. First, each node's location is estimated by a cloud of particles and their weights. Second, Degree of Inconsistency(DoI) is proposed to detect the nodes with high error. DoI makes full use of the fact that node density is high and they are randomly and uniformly distributed. the nodes with large error could be gradually identified by DoI and their estimated locations are then updated wisely to get higher accuracy. the proposed algorithm only needs local information and it is implemented in a distributive way. Simulation results show that the proposed error control strategy can solve error propagation problem successfully and provide relative high accuracy, especially in network with high ranging error and low beacon density.
