During many years, the WDM domain was dominated by vendors/system suppliers that logically proposed their proprietary solutions and technologies. This proprietary environment offered the space to innovate and allowed an unbelievable progress of optical transport networks that were able to cope with traffic increase for 25 years. Thereby, coherent technology enabled an incredible growth of data rate carried by wavelengths from 10G in the middle of 2000's decade up to 400G today and soon 800G. However, for data center interconnect (DCI) and metro/regional applications, the lack of openness and interoperability of WDM systems appeared as a real weakness for service providers for both the control (i.e., management) and data (i.e., transceiver) plane. While in the Ethernet area (managed by ieee) interworking and openness is a reality since a long time, it was not still the case in the WDM domain few years ago. Fortunately, Multi-Source Agreement (MSA) organizations like the Optical Internetworking Forum (OIF), OpenROADM, OpenZR+ and others but also standardization bodies like ITU-T started to break the vendors' lock-in and fostered the emergence of interoperable WDM transceivers at 100G, 200G, 400G and soon at 800G. In parallel, the great progress of microelectronics and photonic integration also paved the way of a miniaturization of WDM interfaces allowing to have ever more powerful digital signal processing (DSP) engines at higher data rates with drastic power consumption reduction authorizing new fundamental applications like IP over WDM. In this paper, we present for the first time an end-to-end interoperable 400-GbEthernet (GbE) optical transmission on 927-km that integrates the most advanced 400G interoperable pluggable optics covering the needs of Ethernet client (ieee 802.3 400GBASE), data-center interconnect (OIF 400-ZR), and metro/regional (400G-OpenROADM) networks. Autonomous systems are able to make decisions and potentially take actions without direct human intervention, which requires some knowledge about the system and its environment as well as goal-oriented reasoning. In computer systems, one can derive such behavior from the concept of a rational agent with autonomy (“control over its own actions”), reactivity (“react to events from the environment”), proactivity (“act on its own initiative”), and sociality (“interact with other agents”) as fundamental properties \n[1]\n. Autonomous systems will undoubtedly pervade into our everyday lives, and we will find them in a variety of domains and applications including robotics, transportation, health care, communications, and entertainment to name a few. \nThe articles in this month’s special issue cover concepts and fundamentals, architectures and techniques, and applications and case studies in the exciting area of self-awareness in autonomous systems.

This article proposes a correction technique for impedance matching between short dipole or monopole antennae and transceivers, based on the baseband pre-equalization of the input signal by a wave-digital filter, whose topology and coefficients are adjustable. A fixed L-section matching network is combined with a second L-section that is digitally implemented and, through parameters sensing, can compensate for antenna impedance variations in real-time. In this way, the paper provides a flexible and digitally stable solution, instead of using tunable or switchable physical components, which might be subject to hardware limitations such as cost, size and linearity. The proposed technique is assessed through a simulation that shows its effectiveness. © 2017 ieee.

In this paper, a new methodology for decentralized overlapping tracking control of complex or large-scale systems is proposed. The methodology is demonstrated in the case of multiple systems moving in a plane. Starting from the given information structure constraints, the expansion/contraction paradigm based on the restriction conditions is applied. The local design provides tracking controllers for the extracted subsystems;contraction is done according to the inclusion principle and results in a stable controller provided the system graph has a directed spanning tree. A specific methodology based on sequential LQ optimization is proposed for local controller design.

Energy Efficient Coded Communication for ieee 802.15.4 Compliant Wireless Sensor Networks

The multipath nature of the wireless environment does not provide reliable links for robust communication in wireless senor networks (WSNs). These unreliable links increase the error level to a greater extent and therefore, reduces battery life. Hence, there arises a need for developing energy efficient forward error correction code that avoids more energy consuming Automatic Repeat request (ARQ) scheme used in WSNs to improve link reliability. In this paper, we consider a simple block error correction codes such as cyclic and Bose Chaudhuri Hocquenghem (BCH) codes to be used in ieee 802.15.4 RF transceiver based sensor nodes. The simulations are performed to measure network parameters such as bit error rate, and energy spent per bit under Rayleigh fading channel environment. It is found that BCH code with code rate of 0.8 provides coding gain of 1.6 dB when compared with cyclic and ARQ schemes and proves to be an energy efficient code among the codes considered.

End applications like automotive, mobile, industrial, communications and infrastructure require hardware architectures with multiple processing elements to reduce overall system cost and power. Typical hardware architectures consist of multiple processors to meet computational needs along with a rich set of peripherals to meet connectivity requirements. The complex interaction between the processing elements and the peripheral poses technical challenges in terms of assigning use case specific role for each component. Interrupts and events are one of the basic building blocks for communication, which typically gets statically assigned during design, prohibiting certain use cases. This paper proposes a simple and efficient architecture to route interrupts in multicore devices, which are fully configurable by software based on end-application. The solution consists of symmetric crossbar architecture to connect the processing elements to peripheral endpoints. The proposed architecture is optimal in terms of latency along with design and software efficiency. The proposed architecture is implemented in a multicore SoC (System-on-chip) catering to the automotive market. The implementation provides up to 420 2000 combinations of possible interrupt connections, thereby enabling any possible use case. The proposed solution has no additional latency, one-time static configuration and adds a nominal overhead of 0.17% to the silicon die area.

We propose a distributed adaptive algorithm for finding sparse solutions to systems of linear equations. The algorithm is greedy in nature. At each time moment, it first combines the current nonzero elements of the solution received from neighbor nodes by averaging them and then adapts the solution via a coordinate descent update using the local data. The column selection strategy, derived from adaptive matching pursuit, also fuses the received neighbor information with local data. The algorithm provides good performance with limited inter node communication and relatively low computational complexity.

In an active noise control (ANC) system, Filtered-x algorithm is widely used as feedforward adaptive system. However the algorithm has a possibility of making the ANC system unstable, because of the modeling error of secondary path. In order to solve the problem, a pre-inverse type ANC is proposed in this paper. In this system, an adaptive filter estimates the inverse transfer function of secondary path and the weights of the adaptive filter are copied to the filter, which is inserted before the secondary path. Then a primary path is estimated by another adaptive filter. Therefore, the primary and secondary paths are controlled independently and the proposed ANC improves the noise reduction ability. Unfortunately, the pre-inverse type ANC degrades the estimation accuracy of the secondary path due to bias. Thus, the bias free adaptive algorithm with square sum of the correlation is also proposed. The adaptive algorithm takes advantage of the independence between the input signal and disturbance. © 2011 ieee.

In the recent years there has been an increased interest in the analysis and design of distributed control systems. This is motivated by the distributed nature of many systems, found in diverse areas such as manufacturing, transportation, power systems, mobile robotics, etc. Moreover, a key objective in engineering is the design of reliable systems that are able to operate within certain performance margins even in the presence of slowly developing faults. A distributed fault diagnosis and accommodation scheme needs to be able to provide reliable and safe operation of the distributed system, with limited information exchange between the individual subsystems. Towards this direction, this paper presents a distributed fault detection and accommodation design for a class of nonlinear interconnected subsystems. A fault may occur in the subsystems local dynamics as well as in the interconnections between the subsystems. The subsystems are allowed to exchange state information, according to a tracking error-based communication protocol. The distributed fault detection and accommodation architecture is based on the use of adaptive approximation models which utilize local, as well as, remote communicated state information. ©2010 ieee.
