The integration of renewable energy sources, such as photovoltaic and wind power plants, into electrical systems poses challenges in maintaining grid stability due to their lack of natural inertia. This paper addresses the importance of controlling power injection from these sources to mitigate frequency instability, exemplified by a recent blackout in Brazil. While conventional approaches focus on controlling DC-link voltage, this study uses full state feedback control for regulating power injected by a boost converter in photovoltaic systems. This Work in Progress paper presents modelling of the converter with power output, controller design, and computer simulation of the boost converter, demonstrating its effectiveness in power management and reduction of oscillations.

In recent years, several open-source projects have shown potential to serve a future technology commons for EDA and design prototyping. This paper examines how open-source and proprietary EDA technologies will inevitably take on complementary roles within a future technology commons. Proprietary EDA technologies offer numerous benefits that will endure, including (i) exceptional technology and engineering;(ii) ever-increasing importance in design-based equivalent scaling and the overall semiconductor value chain;and (iii) well-established commercial and partner relationships. On the other hand, proprietary EDA technologies face challenges that will also endure, including (i) inability to pursue directions such as massive leverage of cloud compute, extreme reduction of turnaround times, or "free tools";and (ii) difficulty in evolving and addressing new applications and markets. By contrast, open-source EDA technologies offer benefits that include (i) the capability to serve as a friction-free, democratized platform for education and future workforce development (i.e., as a platform for EDA research, and as a means of teaching / training both designers and EDA developers with public code);and (ii) addressing the needs of underserved, non-enterprise account markets (e.g., older nodes, research flows, cost-sensitive IoT, new devices and integrations, system-design-technology pathfinding). This said, open-source will always face challenges such as sustainability, governance, and how to achieve critical mass and critical quality. The paper will conclude with key directions and synergies for open-source and proprietary EDA within an EDA Commons for education and prototyping.

This paper presents the design and outcomes of SketchPath, a system that uses hand-drawn toolpaths to design for clay 3D printing. Drawing, as a direct manipulation technique, allows artists to design with the expressiveness of CAM-based tools without needing to work with a numerical system or constrained system. SketchPath works to provide artists with direct control over the outcomes of their form by not abstracting away machine operations or constraining the kinds of artifacts that can be produced. Artifacts produced with SketchPath emerge at a unique intersection of manual qualities and machine precision, creating works that blend handmade and machine aesthetics. In interactions with our system, ceramicists without a background in CAD/CAM were able to produce more complex forms with limited training, suggesting the future of CAM-based fabrication design can take on a wider range of modalities.

This study is based on the current development status of existing amphibious flying robots and identifies their design shortcomings. A new industrial prototype design for amphibious flying robots suitable for water, land, and air use has been proposed. Through a detailed analysis of overall parameters, external structure, wing layout and transformation, shape transformation control, takeoff and landing methods, and power systems, this study aims to achieve a compact and stable robot design to ensure good manoeuvrability and adaptability in different environments. Meanwhile, by adopting a variable wing design and an efficient shape transformation controlsystem, the robot can achieve optimized aerodynamic performance and smooth, fast shape transformation in different flight modes. In addition, diversified takeoff and landing methods are proposed, such as vertical takeoff and landing, horizontal takeoff and landing, etc., to meet diverse task requirements. Finally, a design combining advanced electric and fuel power systems is adapted to meet the long-term flight requirements in different environments. Through these detailed analyses, this study provides important references for the further development and application of amphibious flying robots suitable for water, land, and air use.
The traditional graphic designsystem can not provide users with the basis of design geometry theory, resulting in disharmony of design works. Therefore, a computeraided image designsystem is developed. The design o...
