This paper proposes a new tag antenna design for the dual RFID tag system for ac current sensing in smart metering systems. The proposed tag antenna design is based on an electrical dipole and the meander line technique is used to reduce the size of the antenna without affecting the reading range. The tag antenna occupies a small area of 46 mm x 33 mm. The antenna port impedance was conjugately matched with the input impedance of the Magnus S2 chip at 868 MHz, and the resultant reflection coefficient is less than -10 dB and the realised gain is 0.36 dB. The measured result shows that the miniaturised tag antenna can transmit current readings over a read range of 6 m using the 868 MHz UHF band.

This article presents the design of an electric vehicle (EV) battery charger isolation stage for minimizing switching frequency variation with the proposed duplex control. Traditionally, the realization of an EV charger with a resonant power conversion stage involves extreme frequency variation in the constant voltage (CV) mode resulting in switching losses, imposes severe constraints on the optimal design of magnetics, and presents control complexities due to secondary resonance and degraded pulsewidth modulation resolution. In this context, reported hybrid control strategies are complex and entail the simultaneous variation of control variables. In order to simplify control complexity and design constraints, the EV charger isolation stage with the quadruple rectifier and employing the proposed duplex control is presented with notable frequency reduction. Furthermore, the effect of high-frequency transformer nonidealities on the soft-switching range is delineated. The proposed duplex control contributes to the efficiency enhancement of the EV charger over a comprehensive range during CV charging, ensures soft switching, and prevents secondary resonance. It also offers continuous resonant current to overcome the underutilization of the transformer arising from high-frequency distortions. To validate the presented analysis, a 1.25-kW hardware prototype is designed and tested in the laboratory, and experimental results are presented.

This paper presents an innovative approach to designing a robot hand specifically tailored for the final round of the ANA Avatar XPRIZE Challenge, a teleoperation robot competition. The primary objective of the newly developed hand was to accurately depict teleoperation by replicating a person's remote actions, gestures, emotional expressions, and the ability to manipulate various objects commonly encountered in daily life, including tools. To accomplish the objective of enabling finger flexion-extension (FE) with a single linear actuating system, multiple 4-bar linkage mechanisms were employed to incorporate the FE joints. Additionally, to enable effortless grasping of objects with unknown shapes, compliance elements were implemented using adduction-abduction (AA) joints with timing belt pulley system and FE joint accompanying springs. As a result, a four-fingered hand boasting a total of eight degrees of freedom was developed, ensuring robust fingertip grip while minimizing the overall weight of the hand to preserve the payload capacity of the robot arm. This paper describes the hand's design process based on finger kinematic analysis. Finite Element Method (FEM) analysis results to assess the hand's ability to withstand disturbances and potential plastic deformation.
