A body area networks (BAN) can provide a wide range of applications in primary for medical healthcare such as telemetering vital sign, telecontrolling medical equipment, and in addition for non-medical service such as entertainment. To harmonize with the strong demands from both medical healthcare societies and ICT industries, a standardization committee referred to as ieee 802.15.6 was formally set up in December 2007. The objective of 15.6 is to define new physical (PHY) and media access control (MAC) layers for wireless BAN (WBAN). This paper introduces a trend of R&D for WBAN and an overview of standardization in ieee802.15.6. Some critical and future works are suggested. A BAN must be a major successful system to achieve both ubiquitous medical service to solve medical crisis and global business to create a new market in medical ICT.

Interactive software tools are proven to be very useful techniques with a high impact on control education. These tools make the learning process more interactive and involve students' participation and focus. The paper describes the features, functionalities, and applications of 'Advanced CS', an interactive graphical user interface (GUI) tool for time domain analysis, frequency domain analysis, and designing of the modern linear control system. It covers state-space modeling, time and frequency domain analysis, PID controller designing, state feedback controller designing by using pole-placement and quadratic regulator method, and full-order and minimum-order state observer designing. The tool, whose main features are simplicity, interactive nature, ease of use, and dynamic nature, is developed using MATLAB for the enhancement of control education. Its capability of updating performance, output parameters, and graphical elements immediately on change of system parameters makes it dynamic and makes the iterative process of analysis and designing simple and easy. Its capability to interface with the hardware setup in real-time not only adds to the purpose of control education enhancement but also validates the analysis and design.

The introduction of the microprocessor has allowed newer control techniques such as PID (Proportional-Integral-Derivative) algorithms and Fuzzy Logic control. controls in the past are now being replaced by newer algorithms. The following is an examination of various types of PID computations and Fuzzy Logic in the area of temperature control. As the microprocessor becomes faster, better techniques for controlling processes more precisely are being made. Former methods of temperature control, in either analog or digital technology, had early forms of control algorithms. These building blocks were ON/OFF control, progressing to proportional control and then integral and derivative functions. Each was an improvement but each had its own difficulties in responding to system upsets and stability. In recent years the emergence of the Ethereum Blockchain has introduced a new alternative perspective on how web applications can be build. More precisely, the Ethereum Blockchain allows the development of applications, where programming code can be executed in a decentralized manner with no restrictions imposed by a central authority. However, as it is the case with many emerging technologies, there is a fair amount of trade-offs that have to be considered when this technology is used as a platform for implementing decentralized applications. In this work we present two architectural designs for building decentralized applications (DApps) based on the Ethereum Blockchain technology. Within this context, we discuss the inherent strengths and weaknesses of each of the architectural designs as well as the set of challenges that we faced during the development process.

Limited by the channel bandwidth and information rate of the communication network of the electric energy information acquisition system, the energy data of the power system terminal lacks a suitable access method response to the above problems, this article combines the wide coverage characteristics and data compression technology achieved by LoRa (Long Range Radio, LoRa) spread spectrum communication, and proposes a new method of access communication based on LoRa spread spectrum and improved data compression coding for embedded applications. This technology can not only take into account the advantages of low design cost, strong coverage, anti-interference, etc. But also increases the virtual bandwidth of the channel, optimizes the comlink, and lay a solid foundation for high-frequency data collection and large-scale data transmission.

Although unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV) shows great advantages and some new potential applications in recent years as an effective tool for investigation, fighting and defense, yet, how to give full play to its role still remains the focus of attention. To improve the fighting efficiency of UAV and expand the range of its applications, the obstacle avoidance problem of UAV during autonomous cruise should be solved at first. This paper mainly studies the obstacle avoidance algorithm for UAV, and proposes an obstacle avoidance plan based on IRIS(Iterative Regional Inflation by Semidefinite) and APF(Artifical Potential Field), i.e. IRIS-APF obstacle avoidance plan. According to the requirements and constraints on UAV autonomous cruise, the IRIS and APF are optimized and combined effectively, to realize the IRIS algorithm in 2 d and 3 d environments, control the UAV avoidance of static obstacles in 2 d environment, and ensure the general heading direction of UAV towards the target. Through simulation verification, the IRIS-APF obstacle avoidance plan proposed herein not only achieves the goal of obstacle avoidance, but also realizes high algorithm speed and accuracy under the high real-time request during UAV advancement process.

This paper proposes a new media access control (MAC) protocol for in-vehicle power line communications (PLC). Specifically, the proposed protocol is based on the HomePlug Green PHY (HomePlug GP) which is a modern PLC protocol standard for Smart Grid applications on the Home Area Network [1], however, it has been found that current HomePlug protocols would not cope with the strict timing requirements of in-vehicle communication systems. This paper suggests improvements and modifications to enhance the real-time MAC performance of HomePlug GP in an in-vehicle network through additional priority levels and reduced message length. Simulation results based on the open source network simulator OMNeT++ are provided to show advantages of the proposed protocol.

The great strength of satellite communications for humanitarian applications is independence of terrestrial infrastructure. However, satellite telecommunications systems typically suffer high recurrent costs, for example, monthly service charges, which are levied on each terminal device. This makes the preprovision of satellite communications in disaster-prone regions very expensive. This is especially true for lower-income countries where the US-dollar referenced pricing of satellite services is particularly burdensome. Yet these are the very countries where such services are most needed. In this paper we describe a low-cost architecture for providing two-way geo-stationary satellite based telephony, text messaging and related services, such that the operational cost is independent of the number of deployed terminals. This model consists of a University-operated regional ground-station together with direct leased satellite bandwidth and low-cost low-power satellite receiver hardware. By having the entire system under non-commercial control and where the operating costs between activations can be eliminated by having the responsible personnel teach or research between activations, it is possible to remove the major cost drivers of traditional satellite services, while retaining the capability to deliver a scalable, robust and useful service, that can be rapidly activated when required. Using this model, total recurrent costs related to the space segment are as low as US$1,500 per annum for a regional system capable of supporting hundreds of terminals.
