controller-pilot voice communications are a critical component of the Air Traffic control (ATC) system, but outside of the human listening and responding that occurs with each transmission, they are an underutilized source of information for automation systems in the ATC domain. Automatic speech recognition is a continuously improving technology that can be used to tap into this information source for potential system benefits in a variety of ATC applications, such as monitoring live operations for safety benefit, conducting analysis on large quantities of recorded controller-pilot speech, or enabling automated simulation pilots to facilitate training and Human-in-the-Loop (HITL) simulation experiments. This paper describes how automatic speech recognition can be used in the ATC domain, the characteristics of the automatic speech recognition process and the ATC domain that make the problem unique, and the engineering process for effectively applying automatic speech recognition to ATC systems.

The paper presents control design and results of a leading experiment in the distance stabilization of large bodies, emulating optical mirrors, with picometer repeatability. The experiment, called COSI (control Optics Structure Interaction), was funded by the European Space Agency (ESA) in view of future space telescopes needing picoradian precision over time scales >1 s. Distance stabilization is achieved by actively controlling the optical length of Fabry-Perot cavities in the vacuum. The first experiments stabilized three 0.5 m distances between two 7 kg plates with a residual control error better than 3 pm (1σ), in presence of severe environment noise and artificial micrometer distance variations, thus fully demonstrating feasibility of COSI concept and technology.

LED is regarded as one of the best potential light sources for next-generation lighting. In LED applications, Power Line Communication (PLC) is one of the popular communication techniques, which is used to control the complex lighting system. In this paper, a general LED lighting system based on a novel PLC technology, which is named as P-BUS, is presented. It is made up of four main parts: the master controller, the slave controller which controls the LED module, the DC-DC module and ancillary devices. The communication mode, protocol architecture, circuit structure and frame definition of P-BUS technique are covered and discussed. The control method of the system is introduced. Compared with other communication methods, the proposed P-BUS has many advantages such as fewer communication wires and components, simpler circuit topology and strong interference rejection. A prototype is given to show the advantages of the proposed solution and global system performance is also analyzed.

However, in ultra-thin SOI MOSFETs which are promising candidate to ultrasmall devices, it is difficult to adjust threshold voltage with poly-Si gate technology. In this paper, Tantalum is used for gate material because of excellent chemical resistivity. The work function of Ta is 4.608 eV according to Schottky barrier measurement. It is indicated that Ta-gate SOI MOSFETs have excellent threshold control voltage control in 1V application.

To harmonize with the strong demands from both medical healthcare societies and ICT industries, a standardization committee referred to as ieee 802.15.6 was formally set up in December 2007. The objective of 15.6 is to define new physical (PHY) and media access control (MAC) layers for wireless BAN (WBAN). This paper introduces a trend of R&D for WBAN and an overview of standardization in ieee802.15.6. Some critical and future works are suggested. A BAN must be a major successful system to achieve both ubiquitous medical service to solve medical crisis and global business to create a new market in medical ICT.

Software-Defined Wireless Sensor Networks (SDWSNs) have grown in popularity and proved their usefulness in the Internet of Things (IoT) deployment since they provide centralized administration and improve network flexibility. However, in order to control and manage the network, the controller constantly exchanges control messages with the network nodes. As a result, it is critical to guarantee that control messages arrive at their destinations on time. We presented the Application Traffic Isolation (ATI) approach to isolate the different traffic types by slicing the network using ieee 802.15.4e Time Slotted Channel Hopping (TSCH) technology. This approach demonstrated its effectiveness and resulted in an improvement in the data plane performance metrics. This study investigates the impact of the ATI approach on the control plane using the control and Data Traffic Isolation (CDTI) approach as a reference comparison case. The evaluation process took into account up to four applications operating concurrently, as well as network sizes of up to 225 nodes. Contiki OS and Cooja simulator were used to run the simulations. In comparison to the CDTI approach, the ATI approach improved the control delivery rate and control delay by up to 47.91% and 41.36%, respectively.
