This paper addresses the potential for energy reduction obtained by using dynamic line tensioning in thruster assisted position mooring systems. Traditionally, mooring systems have been designed in such a way that thruster assistance has hot been necessary under normal environmental conditions. However, as oil production moves into deeper waters, such over-dimensioned mooring systems are no longer feasible. Thus, new `hybrid' solutions must be developed, in which increased thruster action compensates for fewer, and lighter, anchor lines. In this paper, controlling the line tensions dynamically is suggested as an additional means of station keeping, and a control law is derived based on passivity. A model consisting of a rigid-body submodel for the vessel, and a finite element submodel for the mooring system is presented and used for simulations. The simulations show the performance of the proposed control system.

This paper proposes to use model predictive control with binary-regularization (MPCBR) to manage the generation problem in concentrating solar power (CSP) plants with thermal energy storage (TES). The main advantage of the proposed method is to allow rescheduling the generation at regular periods taking advantage of the most recent energy prices and weather forecast, and of the current plant's state. A second benefit of the MPCBR formulation is the inclusion of a turbine protection method based on a binary-regularization term that penalizes for changes of the turbine output and binary constraints that limit the number of daily turbine startups. Binary variables are used to avoid penalization of the turbine start-up and shutdown. These extensions of the classical MPC approach aim to preserve the turbine lifetime. An interesting question is if this protection mechanism affect the economic results of the CSP plant. An included economic study shows that the proposed scheduling method provides a good trade-off between the economic profits obtained from energy sales and the protection of the generation block. The study is based on a realistic simulation of a 50 MW parabolic trough collector-based CSP with TES under the assumption of participation in the Spanish day-ahead energy market scenario.

UPnP network has become the mainstream in home. How to seamlessly connect and integrate devices with UPnP network to achieve ubiquitous remote control were being discussed. Some UPnP-Bridge mechanisms were developed just for specific devices. They need extra software modules and/or mapping profiles in order to connect device to the UPnP Network which brings troubles to users and developers. We propose an Intelligent Remote control Architecture to provide a ubiquitous system for controlling remote devices as local peripheral devices. IRIA (Intelligent Remote Interface Agent) makes one device connect to UPnP Network without extra overhead under this architecture. IRIC (Intelligent Remote Interface controller) translates the UPnP interface device to a local peripheral port. Original control application for this device can access the local peripheral port to control the new remote device without any modification.

The following is an examination of various types of PID computations and Fuzzy Logic in the area of temperature control. As the microprocessor becomes faster, better techniques for controlling processes more precisely are being made. Former methods of temperature control, in either analog or digital technology, had early forms of control algorithms.
