We study how to achieve cost-effective and security-aware multilayer planning for an optical transport network (OTN) that covers both trusted and untrusted zones and has the option to choose encryption solution deployment (ESD) architectures based on traffic condition. We first formulate an integer linear programming (ILP) model to solve the optimization exactly, and then propose a novel heuristic based on collapsed auxiliary graphs (CAGs) to have improved time-efficiency.

Nowadays, formal methods are used in various areas for the verification of programs or for code generation from models in order to increase the quality of software and to reduce costs. However, there are still fields in which formal methods haven't been widely adopted, despite the large set of possible benefits offered. This is the case for the area of programmable logic controllers (PLC). This article aims to evaluate the potential of formal methods in the context of PLC development. For this purpose, the general concepts of formal methods are first introduced and then transferred to the PLC area, resulting in an engineering-oriented description of the technology that is based on common concepts from PLC development. Based on this description, PLC professionals with varying degrees of experience were interviewed for their perspective on the topic and to identify possible use cases within the PLC domain. The survey results indicate the technology's high potential in the PLC area, either as a tool to directly support the developer or as a key element within a model-based systems engineering toolchain. The evaluation of the survey results is performed with the aid of a demo application that communicates with the Totally Integrated Automation Portal from Siemens and generates programs via Fastsynth, a model-based open source code generator. Benchmarks based on an industry-related PLC project show satisfactory synthesis times and a successful integration into the workflow of a PLC developer.

Nowadays specialized distributed services and sig-nificant amounts of computing resources are used for solving tasks in Big Data processing and analysis. Cloud environments allow people to create virtual clusters with necessary characteris-tics and tune specialized software for planning jobs and resource allocation. Slurm belongs to such systems class. Unfortunately, lots of problems appear during manual setup and Slurm usage in cloud infrastructure. The article offers the solution to the problem of automating deployment of the Slurm cluster in cloud infrastructure for development and testing purposes. User acquires access using REST API request to get ready for use virtual cluster with preinstalled and preconfigured Slurm cluster. This work also includes analysis for Slurm/HPC clusters effi-ciency running in openstack environment using virtual machines interconnected with an overlay network compared to classical bare-metal HPC clusters. © 2021 ieee.

The paper presents a study aimed at identifying the most widely occurring data quality issues that affect users' experience with data and their reuse, and presence of which may not only disrupt the willingness to work with data but also cause losses for businesses. The list of defects is intended to be identified as a result of the following activities: first, the list of the most widely occurring data quality requirements and/ or dimensions should be established by means of literature analysis. Second, given the diversity and quantity of different data quality requirements and dimensions, this list should be reduced by means of the brainstorming session and DELPHI analysis, which involves 12 experts. The validity of the resulting list should then be verified by applying these requirements to real-world data, more precisely, open government data, which are freely available to every stakeholder. This activity involves 30 users with advanced data quality knowledge. This allows us to define a list of key data quality issues. Both the data holder and the data user with higher degree of confidence can make use of it to make sure that the data are error-free and are a trusted source to be used without losses for business. These requirements serve as part of a specification for the web-based data quality analysis tool to be developed.

The integration of unstable and/or uneven single-phase renewable distributed generation (DG) exacerbates the network imbalance problem. These unbalanced situations lead to financial losses, wasteful asset utilisation, and security hazards to network infrastructure. In this paper, a new phase-changing soft open point (PC-SOP) with bifurcation connection is proposed to allow various single-phase connections in three-wire systems. Then for three-phase unbalanced systems, operational strategies based on various cases are outlined. The optimal strategy for reducing power losses and three-phase imbalance can be identified by optimizing the regulation of SOPs and DG curtailment The relaxation method of symmetrical semidefinite programming (SDP) is then used to adapt the initial non-convex nonlinear model into an SDP model that can be solved effectively by commercial solvers. Case studies are carried out on an ieee 13-node three-phase system to validate the efficacy and efficiency of the presented SOP solutions and their operational strategy. © 2021 ieee

We present a scalable methodology for the agile physical design of tile-based heterogeneous system-on-chip (SoC) architectures that simplifies the reuse and integration of open-source hardware components. The methodology leverages the regularity of the on-chip communication infrastructure, which is based on a multi-plane network-on-chip (NoC), and the modularity of socket interfaces, which connect the tiles to the NoC. Each socket also provides its tile with a set of platform services, including independent clocking and voltage control. As a result, the physical design of each tile can be decoupled from its location in the top-level floorplan of the SoC and the overall SoC design can benefit from a hierarchical timing-closure flow, design reuse and, if necessary, fast respin. With the proposed methodology we completed two SoC tapeouts of increasing complexity, which illustrate its capabilities and the resulting gains in terms of design productivity.

The purpose of the study described in this article is to consider a cell classification system using a computer vision system, as well as to study the architecture of the developed neural networks that make it possible to produce a vision classification system. Computer vision is software and hardware that automatically captures and processes images obtained from both stationary and moving objects. The last few years have made significant progress, thanks to the speed and computing power of processors, the resolution of cameras, thereby actualizing the trend towards improving these technologies. Such a procedure requires high qualifications, the availability of automated equipment capable of high-precision classification of human cells, which increases the efficiency of the cell recognition procedure, can significantly increase the efficiency of the cell recognition procedure. The research was carried out on the basis of materials and scientific publications posted on open information resources. In the course of the work, architectural neural networks were considered. The work considers the architectures of neural networks that can perform the determination of the phase of the cell cycle, the identification of cancer cells, classifications of leukocytes, data segmentation, and also perform cell counting. © 2021 ieee.

Modern datacenter applications are increasingly being built using a microservices architecture. These microservices communicate with each other using datacenter RPCs. RPC's pass by value semantics incur redundant data movement along the network, especially for data-intensive applications. Naively introducing a shared global address space to datacenter RPC does not work as it would couple microservices and require microservices to handle data consistency, significantly complicating the development and deployment of applications. Fortunately, the modern datacenter is embracing disaggregated memory (DM). In a DM-enabled datacenter, servers running the microservices can be all connected to one global disaggregated memory pool, thus the pass by value semantics can be replaced by pass by reference. However, prior work on DM requires complicated synchronization primitives to share data across physical machines, so naively adopting them to datacenter RPC would harm microservices' agility and modularity. To this end, we present DmRPC, a DM-aware datacenter RPC for data-intensive datacenter applications to our knowledge. First, DmRPC introduces a DM-aware shared global address space to provide the semantics of pass by reference to datacenter RPC, thus alleviating the redundant data movement issue. Second, DmRPC adopts a copy-on-write mechanism to avoid complicating application logic to handle data consistency while guaranteeing high performance. We have applied DmRPC to two different implementations of DM, one is network-based (DmRPC-net) while the other is CXL-based (DmRPC-CXL). Our evaluations on synthetic 7-tier microservices workloads show that DmRPC-net (or DmRPC-CXL) achieves 4.2× (or 8.3×) higher throughput and achieves 1.1 × (or 1.7 ×) lower average latency than that of the baseline, respectively. On a widely used microservice benchmark DeathStarBench, DmRPC-net can achieve 3.1 × higher throughput and 2.5 × lower average latency than the baseline.

We developed a network architecture called information-centric elastic optical transport network (i-CEON) that enables efficient content delivery. The increasing volume of video traffic consumes network resources, so it is necessary to establish optical transport network architectures suitable for content delivery. For this purpose, we extend existing informationcentric networking to be applicable to elastic optical networks. The main focus of this paper is presenting the method in iCEON of optimizing optical-path routing by effectively using an in-network cache function to efficiently accommodate content traffic. This reduces redundant use of network resources. We formulate the joint optimization problem of elastic optical-path routing and content-replication placement as a mixed integer linear programming problem. We conducted intensive numerical experiments to demonstrate the effectiveness of our method and confirmed that it reduced network cost by 20% and server load by 33%.

Approximate computing is a promising technique in improving the energy efficiency for error-resilient applications such as multimedia, signal processing and neural network. A large amount of reported work is on the design of approximate computation units with truncated data under error constraints. However, they mainly focus on simple arithmetic operations, addition and multiplication to be more specific. In this paper, we study how to apply the truncation method to the floating-point logarithmic operation which is getting increasingly popular. We analyze the tradeoff between the precision of computation and the energy it requires and derive a formula on the most energy efficient implementation of the logarithm unit for a given error variance range. Based on this theoretical result, we propose BWOLF (Bit-Width optimization for Logarithmic Function), which uses a sequential quadratic programming algorithm to determine the way to truncate data (i.e., bit-width optimization) in a program with logarithm and other arithmetic operations such that the energy consumption is minimized under a fixed error budget. We evaluate the efficacy of BWOLF in energy saving on two widely used applications: Kullback-Leibler Divergence and Bayesian Neural network. The experimental results validate the correctness of our analysis and show significant amount of energy saving over both the full-precision computation and the uniform truncation method. The energy savings range from 27.18 % to 95.92% for different error constraints.
