In response to the rapidly escalating data movement-related costs of computing with large matrices and multidimensional arrays, several lossy compression methods have been developed that help reduce the volume of data moved. Unfortunately, all these methods require the data to be decompressed before operating on it. In this work, we develop a lossy compressor for arbitrary-dimensional arrays called PyBlaz 1 that supports a dozen non-trivial operations directly on compressed data while also offering good compression ratios. PyBlaz is based on the PyTorch framework, and thus can be run on CPUs or GPUs without any code changes. We evaluate the efficacy of PyBlaz on datasets originating in three applications: comparing shallow-water simulation implementations, measuring statistics from MRI images, and detecting the scission point in plutonium fission data. Our results demonstrate that PyBlaz's compressed-domain operations achieve good scalability while incurring controllable errors. To our best knowledge, this is the first such lossy compressor that supports compressed-domain operations in the realm of handling arbitrary-dimensional scientific datasets. © 2023 Owner/Author.

Deep learning models are remarkably accurate and preformat, although they are frequently computationally expensive. Large quantities of memory and high-performance GPUs or TPUs are among the computing resources needed for training and deploying large-scale neural networks. Model optimization becomes indispensable. The process of enhancing deep learning models' effectiveness and efficiency is known as 'model optimization.' In this work, the proposed method for optimization is pruning. Pruning has proven to be effective in increasing inference efficiency, decreasing model size, and speeding up training without compromising accuracy. This paper introduces a pruning method leveraging exponential sparsity within each convolutional layer that varies from min_sparsity to max_sparsity and subsequent compression through sparse representations. Secondly, in this approach instead of the entire kernel sliding across the input data, it performs the one-by-one convolution, selecting slices with the important weights in each filter's kernel according to the sparsity target of that convolutional layer and setting all the other slices to zeros. The obtained results from the one-by-one convolution will be summed together to obtain the output map. Finally, the sparse model is converted into a TFLite model which is a converted format that can be used efficiently on edge devices using TensorFlow Lite. A framework that has been developed and evaluated with TensorFlow, leading to a smaller model size, and quicker inference times, and minimal accuracy loss compared to the original models. This study emphasizes the benefits of structured pruning and examines the results obtained with a model based on Vgg16. © 2025 ieee.

Multidimensional data acquisition often requires extensive time and poses significant challenges for hardware and software regarding data storage and processing. Rather than designing a single compression matrix as in conventional compressed sensing, structured compressed sensing yields dimension-specific compression matrices, reducing the number of optimizable parameters. Recent advances in machine learning (ML) have enabled task-based supervised learning of subsampling matrices, albeit at the expense of complex downstream models. Additionally, the sampling resource allocation across dimensions is often determined in advance through heuristics. To address these challenges, we introduce Structured COmpressed Sensing with Automatic Resource Allocation (SCOSARA) with an information theory-based unsupervised learning strategy. SCOSARA adaptively distributes samples across sampling dimensions while maximizing Fisher information content. Using ultrasound localization as a case study, we compare SCOSARA to state-of-the-art ML-based and greedy search algorithms. Simulation results demonstrate that SCOSARA can produce high-quality subsampling matrices that achieve lower Cramér Rao Bound values than the baselines. In addition, SCOSARA outperforms other ML-based algorithms in terms of the number of trainable parameters, computational complexity, and memory requirements while automatically choosing the number of samples per axis. © 2025 ieee.

Non-volatile cache (NVC) technologies are promising candidates to build the next generation cache architecture due to its high density, non-volatile and low leakage power consumption. However, NVC consumes high write latency and energy. Existing data compression schemes are an efficient way to solve the NVC's problem, for reducing bit-write and expanding cache capacity. Nevertheless, they still suffer from limited compression performance with low compression ratio. In order to overcome these shortcomings, we propose a Reinforcement Learning based data compression scheme (RLDC), including data collection, reinforcement learning model, prediction table, compression and decompression logic. The idea behind RLDC is to explore the characteristics of write intensive words and obtain data compression patterns in the execution flow. Evaluation results show that the proposed scheme achieves compression ratio by 1.88X, reduces energy consumption by 37.57% and execution time by 37.01% compared with the baseline. © 2021 ieee.

Matrix transposition, the procedure of swapping rows and columns of a matrix, has applications in various signal processing applications, such as massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) communication systems, data compression, and multidimensional fast Fourier transforms - which are used in MIMO radar systems. In low-latency high-throughput streaming applications, specialized circuits for matrix transposition are needed in order to perform transposition in real-time. This is in contrast to "slower" applications, where transposition can be adequately performed by storing a matrix in a shared memory and afterward reading it back in a transposed order. In this paper, a design procedure for streaming matrix transposition on field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) using distributed memories is presented. It is shown that significantly fewer FPGA resources are required for small- to medium-sized streaming matrix transpositions compared to recent related works.

Container live migration can move the running container between different physical machines without interrupting the operations of container, which brings great flexibility to cloud computing environments. The pre-copy algorithm is a commonly used migration algorithm in live migration. Aiming at the problem of repeated transmission of dirty pages in the pre-copy algorithm, this paper proposes a container pre-copy migration method called MBDPC, which based on dirty page prediction and page compression. The MBDPC method exploits the locality principle of program operations, uses the Random Forest model for dirty page prediction, and skips the transmission of repeated dirty pages. The MBDPC also uses the page incremental compression method in the transmission process, which further reduces the amount of data transmitted and the migration time. Experimental results show that the MBDPC method can significantly reduce the time and data transmission overhead of live migration compared with traditional pre-copy method.

Aiming at the challenge of high frequency arc fault signal acquisition, a current signal compression acquisition and reconstruction approach taking into account arc-fault identification is proposed for the low-body-volume acquisition of arc-fault signals, which effectively preserves the high-frequency arc-fault characteristics in the current data. Firstly, the current signals characterizing the fault arcs are collected using a flexible Blackman window for sliding acquisition. Then, it employs an improved partially orthogonal Gaussian measurement matrix to achieve compressed acquisition of the current signals through Compressed Sensing (CS) technology. Subsequently, the collected current signals undergo sparse transformation using Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT). Finally, the method utilizes the Compressive Sampling Matching Pursuit based on Optimal Sparsity Estimation (CSMP-OSE) to achieve accurate iterative reconstruction of the compressed high-frequency arc low-dimensional data. Experimental validation based on the substation arc fault dataset demonstrates that this method offers robust arc fault characterization capability, high reconstruction accuracy, and efficiency. © 2024 ieee.

Flight test data processing and transmission are vary important links in flight tests, and improving the efficiency of data processing and transmission is an important requirement for flight tests. Based on the 5G dedicated data transmission network for flight tests, this paper designs an airborne test data processing and high-speed transmission system architecture. First, the real-time processing and real-time storage of airborne test data are realized through high-concurrency multi-core real-time data processing technology, and then the parallel processing of multiple flight test subject data is realized by subject data time positioning and parameter alignment technology. Finally, the data size is reduced by data compression technology, and the stable and reliable transmission of test data is realized by combining data segmentation and verification technology. The real-time processing and high-speed transmission system of test data based on 5G private network realizes the goal of automatically connecting to the 5G private network to transmit original data and result data after the aircraft lands, which greatly improves the efficiency of flight test data processing and transmission and promotes the progress of flight test data processing technology. © 2024 ieee.

Real-time monitoring and analysis of distributed grids require synchro-waveform measurements, which capture almost all high-frequency disturbances and transient phenomena. However, due to limitations in high-speed measurements and network bandwidth, it is challenging to transfer all high-fidelity synchro-waveforms losslessly and successfully. To cope with this issue, a hybrid compression algorithm is proposed to significantly improve the compression efficiency for synchro-waveform measurements. Additionally, an error-index that combines the time and frequency domain error and correlation is developed to evaluate the waveform distortion. By integrating compression ratio, suitable parameters can be optimally selected. Finally, the simulation and laboratory experiments are conducted to verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm. The results demonstrate that a compression ratio of approximately 13 can be reached, corresponding to a 92.3% reduction in data space. © 2023 ieee.

Video content is produced daily through a variety of electronic devices, however, storing and transmitting video signals in raw format is impractical due to its excessive resource requirement. Through this research, we have checked in the context of Sri Lanka what resources they do have and the possibility of compressing the video signals before storing and transmitting. To improve the user experience, it is important to minimize latency as much as possible. This can be achieved through a variety of methods, such as optimizing the network infrastructure, using compression techniques to reduce the size of the data being transmitted, and using specialized protocols designed to reduce latency. © 2023 ieee.
