Implicit neural representations (INRs) have gained prominence as a powerful paradigm in scene reconstruction and computer graphics, demonstrating remarkable results. By utilizing neural networks to parameterize data through implicit continuous functions, INRs offer several benefits. Recognizing the potential of INRs beyond these domains, this survey aims to provide a comprehensive overview of INR models in the field of medical imaging. In medical settings, numerous challenging and ill-posed problems exist, making INRs an attractive solution. The survey explores the application of INRs in various medical imaging tasks, such as image reconstruction, segmentation, registration, novel view synthesis, and compression. It discusses the advantages and limitations of INRs, highlighting their resolution-agnostic nature, memory efficiency, ability to avoid locality biases, and differentiability, enabling adaptation to different tasks. Furthermore, the survey addresses the challenges and considerations specific to medical imaging data, such as data availability, computational complexity, and dynamic clinical scene analysis. It also identifies future research directions and opportunities, including integration with multi-modal imaging, real-time and interactive systems, and domain adaptation for clinical decision support. To facilitate further exploration and implementation of INRs in medical image analysis, we have provided a compilation of cited studies along with their available open-source implementations on GitHub. Finally, we aim to consistently incorporate the most recent and relevant papers regularly.

This paper introduces an efficient lossy image compression algorithm which combines multi-scale cascaded neural networks with Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT), in response to MPEG VCM Call for Evidence. The multi-scale cascaded neural networks are firstly used to compress the features and obtain a low-dimensional compact representation. Although this low-dimensional compact representation loses feature details, it capturing several key important cues within the feature at an extremely low bit-rate cost. Then, DCT is used to encode and decode the condensed features. At last, the decoded features produced by DCT are restored by the multi-scale cascaded neural networks. The proposed image compression algorithm is evaluated on multi-object tracking task and the experimental results show that this method just needs much fewer time to compress image at the cost of slightly sacrificing image quality in comparison to the standard methods given by MEPG. © 2023 ieee.

Daily indoor scenes often involve constant changes due to human activities. To recognize scene changes, existing change captioning methods focus on describing changes from two images of a scene. However, to accurately perceive and appropriately evaluate physical changes and then identify the geometry of changed objects, recognizing and localizing changes in 3D space is crucial. Therefore, we propose a task to explicitly localize changes in 3D bounding boxes from two point clouds and describe detailed scene changes, including change types, object attributes, and spatial locations. Moreover, we create a simulated dataset with various scenes, allowing generating data without labor costs. We further propose a framework that allows different 3D object detectors to be incorporated in the change detection process, after which captions are generated based on the correlations of different change regions. The proposed framework achieves promising results in both change detection and captioning. Furthermore, we also evaluated on data collected from real scenes. The experiments show that pretraining on the proposed dataset increases the change detection accuracy by +12.8% (mAP0.25) when applied to real-world data. We believe that our proposed dataset and discussion could provide both a new benchmark and insights for future studies in scene change understanding.

data-free knowledge distillation (DFKD) is a promising approach for addressing issues related to model compression, security privacy, and transmission restrictions. Although the existing methods exploiting DFKD have achieved inspiring achievements in coarse-grained classification, in practical applications involving fine-grained classification tasks that require more detailed distinctions between similar categories, sub-optimal results are obtained. To address this issue, we propose an approach called DFKD-FGVC that extends DFKD to fine-grained visual categorization (FGVC) tasks. Our approach utilizes an adversarial distillation framework with attention generator, mixed high-order attention distillation, and semantic feature contrast learning. Specifically, we introduce a spatial-wise attention mechanism to the generator to synthesize fine-grained images with more details of discriminative parts. We also utilize the mixed high-order attention mechanism to capture complex interactions among parts and the subtle differences among discriminative features of the fine- grained categories, paying attention to both local features and semantic context relationships. Moreover, we leverage the teacher and student models of the distillation framework to contrast high-level semantic feature maps in the hyperspace, comparing variances of different categories. We evaluate our approach on three widely-used FGVC benchmarks (Aircraft, Cars196, and CUB200) and demonstrate its superior performance. Code is available at https://***/RoryShao/***

The most significant zone of study for Natural Language Processing (NLP) is text compression. Since the number of characters in Unicode are many, 16 bits are needed to process the entire code. This study suggests a useful method for compressing Bangla natural text called the 5 Bit compression Scheme for Bangla Text(5BCS), which uses a 5-bit encoding method to change the 16-bit Bangla letters into a 5-bit format. This technique provides an encoding algorithm which representing the 16-bit Bangla characters to 5 bits by utilizing a query table. The query table contains 4 sets which comprises all the Bangla characters as well as transliterations and special symbols. An m-series technique is used for logically determining index of a given characters combination while translating characters into 5 bits. By utilizing the 5BCS, a natural text can be compressed by a maximum of 84%. The algorithm for decompress the compressed data to translate the original data is also detailed in this paper. Additionally, a comparison section is developed to compare our 5BCS technique with the widely used Huffman and LZW technique. The experimental result of the comparison looks very much optimistic. © 2023 ieee.

JPEG is a popular image compression method widely used by individuals, data center;cloud storage and network filesystems. However, most recent progress on image compression mainly focuses on uncompressed images while ignoring trillions of already-existing JPEG images. To compress these JPEG images adequately and restore them back to JPEG format losslessly when needed, we propose a deep learning based JPEG recompression method that operates on DCT domain and propose a Multi-Level Cross-Channel Entropy Model to compress the most informative Y component. Experiments show that our method achieves state-of-the-art performance compared with traditional JPEG recompression methods including Lepton, JPEG XL and CMIX. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first learned compression method that losslessly transcodes JPEG images to more storage-saving bitstreams.

This paper proposed an event-driven clockless level-crossing ADC (LC-ADC) suitable for time-sparse signal acquisition. A SAR-assisted loop is exploited to resolve the loop delay induced distortion in conventional LC-ADCs, which greatly improves the accuracy and power efficiency. The event-driven sampling scheme automatically adapts the sampling rate to the input activities, showing a dynamic power consumption. Fabricated in a 55nm CMOS technology, the proposed hybrid LC-ADC achieves 62.2dB SNDR and a Walden FoM of 29.7fJ/conv.-step, a nearly 5X improvement in power efficiency beyond the state-of-the-art. Sub mu W power dissipation is realized when the input frequency is below 1.5kHz. For a simulated ECG input, the proposed LC-ADC shows an average sampling rate of 53S/s, which achieves around 7X data compression compared with commonly used 360S/s uniform sampling rate.

Federated Learning (FL) is a distributed machine learning scheme that trains a global model across multiple end devices while protecting user privacy by keeping data locally, which has been shown to be useful for smart healthcare. By integrating virtualized container technology into edge platforms, flexible computing resources can be made available to Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) devices, enabling their participation in FL. Some studies have utilized the advantages of Kubernetes (K8s) for fast container deployment, offering general FL platforms for developers to rapidly deploy models. However, there are currently no FL development platforms suitable for smart healthcare, which exhibits unique challenges of personalized medical data and large-sized models for resource-limited IoMT devices. In this paper, we propose a Kubernetes-powered personalized FL (PFL) platform for resource-constrained IoMT. This platform, which incorporates personalized strategies to capture individual features and model compression mechanisms to reduce model size, allows model developers to formulate PFL training tasks for healthcare users to acquire personalized and compressed models, deployable on their devices. Via establishing a real testbed and deploying a demonstrating training task, our experiments verify the platform's ability to support the development of personalized and compressed models.

A novel method for meaningful ciphertext image encryption is proposed in this paper. The method involves a series of steps, including image compression, histogram shift, and disordered cyclic shift scrambling under M-ary decomposition to generate noise-like ciphertext, followed by generalized least significant bit (GLSB) embedding and correction to produce meaningful ciphertext. In addition, a new N-dimensional infinite collapse discrete chaotic map (ND-ICM) is designed to generate pseudo-random sequences for controlling ciphertext generation. The combination of histogram shift and GLSB embedding significantly improves the quality of the ciphertext, and the ND-ICM is capable of adjusting dimensions as needed, exhibiting good chaotic properties. Experimental results demonstrate that the quality of the ciphertext produced by this algorithm is significantly superior to that of existing visual meaning image encryption algorithms, indicating a broad range of potential applications.

Nowadays, we usually compress images before uploading them to social media. However, images on social media can easily be copied, so embedding secret messages in compressed images has become increasingly popular. There are many compression methods, such as Huffman, VQ, ZIP, AMBTC, RAR, JPEG, etc. In this article, we propose an improved data hiding in VQ compression method to achieve better capacity and high quality. Experimental results show that our data-hiding approach is practical. ©2024 ieee.
