Building a network digital twin (NDT) of a virtual network (VN) and using it to analyze the potential what-if situations that might result from an automated decision allows a management system to avoid undesired VN situations. NDTs require as much monitoring information from the VN as possible, and this information must be as fine-grained as possible. Current telemetry systems cannot provide sufficient information without increasing the bandwidth available in the control plane for transmitting monitoring information. In this study, we investigated the structure of monitoring information to design lossy and lossless compression algorithms that can be used to maximize the amount of monitoring information encoded in each telemetry data unit. We evaluated our algorithms to demonstrate that our lossy algorithm can obtain, on average, a compression level higher than 99% with an accuracy higher than 80% and a compression level higher than 95% with an accuracy higher than 93%, whereas the lossless algorithm obtains compression levels of 33% and 20% when telemetry data are split into large and small chunks, respectively.

The Backwards Coding of Wavelet Trees (BCWT) algorithm by Guo et al. offers high computational efficiency and high peak signal-to-noise (PSNR) ratios at a high speed. In this paper, the BCWT algorithm is reworked using a Haar Wavelet Transform, rather than Debauchee 9–7, to provide even faster and less complex code at the cost of lower PSNR. While in typical image compression applications this compromise is unfavorable, some real-time data acquisition systems require such improvements and are not significantly impacted by the reduced clarity.

V2X holds enormous potential in augmenting road traffic safety by broadcasting information such as the position and velocity of the vehicle to others, rendering itself visible to the network even if it is occluded or still far away. However, regular broadcasting of information by many stations may heavily impact the V2X channel. This paper presents a novel algorithm and message format, Spherical Codec, to help compress trajectory data. The codec introduces new data transmission schemes, adaptable to different implementations. By leveraging inference on the functional domain, it is possible to reduce the transmission frequency while sacrificing a similar amount of accuracy to the current ITS-G5 redundancy mitigation standard. As a numerical experiment, the Gaussian-based version of the codec demonstrated a reduction of up to 2 times improvement in total bytes sent, halved average channel loads.
