This paper presents a solution for visualizing oil spills at sea by combining satellite data with virtual choreographies. The system enables dynamic, interactive visualization of oil slicks, reflecting their shape, movement, and interaction with environmental factors like currents and wind. High-resolution geospatial data supports a multiplatform experience with aerial and underwater perspectives. This approach promotes independence, interoperability, and multiplatform compatibility in environmental disaster monitoring. The results validate virtual choreographies as effective tools for immersive exploration and analysis, offering structured data narratives beyond passive visualization—especially valuable for mixed reality applications.

Test flakiness, characterized by non-deterministic test outcomes despite unchanged code, poses a significant challenge to continuous integration system efficiency and developer productivity. We comprehensively study a year-long initiative to mitigate test flakiness within a large-scale engineering organization. We adjust test failure sensitivity thresholds to account for alert fatigue and resolution quality, refocus data visualization for prioritization and pattern analysis, and introduce incentives to improve the rate of solutions contributing to test stabilization. Key findings reveal the importance of balancing technical efficiency gains with organizational dynamics.

We present an automated fault localization technique that can assist developers to localize effectively faults in Python programs. The proposed method uses spectrum-based fault localization techniques, program slicing, and graph-based visualization to formulate an efficient method for reducing the effort needed in fault localization. The approach takes the source code of a program, a set of passed and failed tests and collects the program spectra information by executing the tests. A tool, FaultLocalizer, facilitates the generation of a call graph for inter-procedural dependency analysis and annotated control flow graphs for different modules with spectra information and suspiciousness scores. The focus of the approach is on the visual analysis of the source code, and it is intended to complement existing fault localization approaches. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is evaluated on a set of buggy Python programs. The results show that the approach reduces debugging efforts and can be applied to programs with conditional branching.

This manuscript provides an in-depth analysis of Major League Baseball (MLB) team performance from 2005 to 2023 using data visualization in Tableau and proposed an hybrid data visualization model (VisMLB) for Major League Baseball matches. The objective is to identify key metrics, such as batting, fielding, and pitching, that influence team success, including championship wins. The authors analyze the total number of championships won by each team, compare top-performing teams based on a variety of performance metrics, and explore the relationship between On-Base Percentage (OBP) and Slugging Percentage (SLG) for home and visitor teams in relation to home victories. Using Tableau, feature importance is visualized, and predictive models are evaluated for accuracy, precision, and recall. The findings offer a comprehensive overview of MLB performance trends over nearly two decades.

Automatic Augmented Reality (AR)-based work support systems seamlessly display the next step instruction when the current task step completion is detected, all without requiring explicit user interaction. However, whenever the progress estimation fails it can lead to confusion and loss of trust in the system. To support the user’s understanding of the reliability of the displayed instructions, we display the confidence of the current step. To explore the effects the presented confidence has on user interaction with the system, we conducted a Wizard-of-Oz style user study with 12 participants. Participants had to assemble a LEGO model with and without confidence visualization, where the confidence for each step was predefined. Our results showed that while the visualization did not increase the user’s performance, participants preferred having the confidence displayed to them, especially when it was low. Our findings provide insights into the design of enhancing the user’s perception of uncertainty in current step detection in automated instruction systems.

The integration of 3D anatomical models derived from DICOM images into extended reality (XR) interfaces significantly enhances the visualization and interaction with anatomical data, particularly in educational, pre-operative, and intra-operative medical scenarios. This paper presents an XR application developed with Unity 3D for the Meta Quest 3, enabling concurrent visualization of DICOM images and interaction with the 3D model in an immersive XR environment. The application incorporates an advanced diegetic user interface, allowing users to manipulate the 3D model intuitively through hand gestures for actions like annotating, dragging, dropping, and scaling objects. Utilizing a virtual tablet and slider, users can precisely control DICOM slice planes that intersect the 3D model, providing real-time updates of visual content. Enhanced by hand tracking, this interface aims to facilitate the natural manipulation of cross-sectional views, thereby optimizing anatomical visualization.

Understanding materials properties depends largely on the ability to determine its components, and in particular its mineral phases. Powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) is a powerful tool for such purposes. This paper presents a Transformer-based vision model (ViT) for mineral phase identification, and proportion inference to quantify the mineral phases present in a material. Our analysis shows that the tokenization strategy is a critical step for XRD pattern analysis. The results obtained for both tasks are excellent and more robust than those obtained with a CNN. The proposed approach also makes it possible to introduce visualization tools for signal analysis, to better understand how information flows through the model and how data is classified or quantified.

We investigate the effects of gaze visualization on instructional communication and effectiveness in a collaborative geosciences virtual reality (VR) environment. Our study provides new, specific insights into the effects of gaze visualization on guidance strategies, based on detailed communication analysis. Unlike prior research that employed simplified tasks (e.g., tangram puzzles or identifying symbols), we focused on realistic tasks involving the identification, alignment, and matching of 3D geo-terrain dataset *** the study, subjects acted as tutors leading students (confederates blind to the condition) through three terrain interpretation tasks, locating, aligning, and matching geological terrain features, in a collaborative VR environment. The subjects performed tasks under two conditions: with and without live visualization of student gaze. We analyzed subjective ratings, task completion times, number of words spoken, and time spent looking at the student. Our findings indicate that gaze visualization not only reduces the overall time and verbal instructions required for corrective guidance, but also shifts the way participants provide guidance. This shift is reflected by fewer words used and shorter task completion times, suggesting a more efficient and visually oriented communication strategy. This suggests that gaze visualization enabled tutors to use more effective spatial guidance strategies thus reducing the reliance on extended verbal descriptions.

In this paper, we demonstrate a smart resource auto-scaling solution based on Multi-Agent Deep Reinforcement Learning (MADRL). Our decentralized approach dynamically adapts compute resources to services to ensure a smooth response to fluctuating user demands. The demonstration, consisting of a visualization and control dashboard, a cloud edge hardware configuration and an AI-based wireless fingerprinting service, shows in-place real-time scaling of resources in the virtual environment and its impact on service response time and performance.

This study explores the use of Multimodal Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) models to enhance information retrieval and generation in retail applications. By combining both structured (e.g., sales data, inventory levels) and unstructured (e.g., product descriptions, customer reviews, images) data sources, RAG models improve the generation of accurate and contextually relevant content. The study evaluates the model's performance on a large-scale retail dataset consisting of product sales data, customer interaction logs, and multimedia content across multiple retail channels. Performance is compared to traditional retrieval methods in terms of accuracy, response quality, computational efficiency, and real-world business impact. Results demonstrate significant improvements in recommendation accuracy 92% and customer engagement metrics. This research contributes to the evolving field of multimodal AI, demonstrating the advantages of hybrid approaches in dynamic business environments and providing practical implementation guidelines for retail organizations. © 2025 ieee.
