Operating envelopes are dynamic limits on power injections, computed in advance based on the operational con-ditions of the network, such as load profiles. These dynamic limits can unlock the full potential of distributed energy resources (DERs) by maximizing the use of existing infrastructure while ensuring a reliable power supply. Visualizing operating envelopes presents a significant challenge, it requires effectively conveying spatio-temporal information for multiple connection sites simultaneously. This paper discusses, demonstrates, and evaluates a set of software architecture decisions to support web-based visualization of distribution system operating envelopes. We propose a microservice-oriented architecture with two processing modules: one for time series power flow and another for three-phase unbalanced multi-period optimal power flow (also known as energy scheduling) computations. Both modules are con-tainerized, ensuring strong separation of duties and portability. Additionally, a web-based visualization interface is developed to incorporate advanced interactive visualization techniques to support the analysis of complex spatio-temporal relationships and 'what if' scenarios. The performance of the approach is evaluated by measuring processing time and size from responses considering various distribution feeders, including the 3- Bus, ieee 4-Bus, ieee 13-Bus, and ieee 123-Bus test feeders. © 2025 ieee.

Traffic congestion on the roads of the Las Vegas Valley is a growing problem. However, due to the complexity of traffic congestion, it is challenging to find timing problems with traffic signals that contribute to the congestion. information visualization, geospatial maps, and modern visualization techniques can help domain experts and the public to analyze, understand, and interact with the data to explore and confirm the causes of traffic congestion. Identifying traffic signals that cause traffic congestion offers domain experts a tool for monitoring traffic signal issues and improving road traffic. Before uncovering road congestion causes, we must first identify the traffic signals or intersections that are most congested to get an overview of the congestion throughout the city's road network. This paper includes preliminary results of a 2D geospatial map design that follows Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) principles of reducing working memory load by providing interactive map features and alternative interfaces for expert and novice users. The informal feedback from a GIS and data visualization specialist on the 2D geospatial map design showed promise, however, for future work the design must be validated with other baseline approaches, data sets, and a user study. © 2025 ieee.

Story visualization is the transformation of narrative elements into image sequences. While existing research has primarily focused on visual contextual coherence, the deeper narrative essence of stories often remains overlooked. This limitation hinders the practical application of these approaches, as generated images frequently fail to capture the intended meaning and nuances of the narrative fully. To address these challenges, we propose VisAgent, a training-free multi-agent framework designed to comprehend and visualize pivotal scenes within a given story. By considering story distillation, semantic consistency, and contextual coherence, VisAgent employs an agentic workflow. In this workflow, multiple specialized agents collaborate to: (i) refine layered prompts based on the narrative structure and (ii) seamlessly integrate generated elements, including refined prompts, scene elements, and subject placement, into the final image. The empirically validated effectiveness confirms the framework's suitability for practical story visualization applications. © 2025 ieee.

My doctoral research examines the information behavior of African scholars. I am reviewing their ethical and moral perspectives towards developing and using digital visualization tools such as GIS maps and 3D models on research websites, including digital archival collections of historical artifacts on the history of African slavery. These collections are housed and showcased through digital visualizations at various archives, courthouses, museums, and libraries. My research employs a qualitative study using in-depth, semi-structured interviews to 1) understand the meaning of ethical and moral research in digital spaces for African history, 2) investigate how and why African scholar uses visualization tools, 3) identify the challenges faced in developing or using such tools, and 4) record recommendations to overcome such challenges. I am inductively coding verbatim transcripts of the interviews to develop themes that address my research questions. My study design aims to reflect on the perspectives of marginalized communities with a sensitive background history of trauma that leads to the horror of racism and discrimination to date. Thus, this work applies more widely to digital libraries and archival studies that intend to develop digital tools sensitive to the ethical and moral implications of the information they contain. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

Text-to-visualization (Text2Vis) aims to democratize data insights for non-expert users by transforming natural language query (NLQ) into visualization specification (VS). In view of the high dependence of rule-based methods on predefined VS templates and poor NLQ understanding ability of small data-driven methods, recent works resort to leveraging pre-trained LLMs to perform NLQ-understanding and VS-generating in Text2Vis tasks via prompt-guided in-context learning. However, existing LLM-based methods still fall short of satisfactory end-to-end Text2Vis performances primarily owing to the limited ability of pre-trained LLMs in directly retrieving and operating NLQ-intended tabular data. Inspired by the SQL generating ability born with latest LLMs, this paper proposes the idea of harnessing LLMs for SQL-driven visualization data retrieval and operation. Nonetheless, there remains a nonneglectable gap between data visualization queries in Text2Vis tasks and SQL retrieving queries in LLM corpus. To fill the gap, this paper proposes a visualization Query to SQL (VisQ2SQL) framework to obtain NLQ-intended data, primarily by fine-tuning LLMs through preference learning data-retrieval SQLs induced from VS and those generated by LLMs. We conduct extensive experiments to demonstrate the superiority of VisQ2SQL over SOTA methods, and various ablation studies to verify the efficacy of VisQ2SQL. © 2025 ieee.

This poster presents the preliminary findings of ongoing doctoral research examining the information behavior of scholars of African digital humanities (ADH). The study focuses on ethical and moral considerations in developing digital visualization tools such as GIS maps and 3D visuals showcasing information on sensitive topics such as slavery. This research employs a qualitative analysis of data collected through in-depth, semistructured interviews aiming to 1) identify the challenges faced by scholars of African origin/descent in developing or using such visualization tools and 2) record their recommendations to address such challenges. Analyses of the first five interviews reveal prominent challenges faced by participants, including lack of technical skills, usability issues, content-related complexity, and the representation of primary source material. To overcome these challenges, the participants recommend collaboration, inclusive research designs, and involvement of community members. The five pilot interviews have allowed adjustments to the interview guide for an additional 10-13 prospective participants. This work aims to produce a guide for digital humanities scholars and professional web developers on designing efficient websites that showcase the results of historical research in an ethical and morally considerate manner. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

This paper explores the transformative role of Augmented Reality (AR) in shaping smart city systems by combining four models of AR for: Real-Time navigation system for pedestrian safety, Smart retail and commerce, construction visualization and lastly for enhancing tourism. These models utilize advanced frameworks like Unity's AR Foundation, ARCore in combination with Python in order to process the data in real time to enhance the decision-making ability of the *** pedestrian navigation system focuses on pedestrian mobility and safety, guiding them through hazardous areas and optimizing traffic light interactions using real-time simulations. In smart retail, AR data visualization enhances customer experience and involvement by providing real-time product information, improving the transparency of the supply chain and preventing product damage through interactive AR markers. Meanwhile, the construction visualization model aids architects in capturing the site-specific measurements by generating boundary sketches and selecting building templates to enhance their design accuracy and reducing their resource waste. Lastly, the AR-enhanced tourism model provides an immersive city experience by overlaying historical, environmental and logistical data on real-world settings which improves both the tourist engagement and urban *** combining these models, the paper demonstrates the potential of AR to revolutionize diverse sectors within smart cities, from infrastructure planning to retail, construction and tourism. This interdisciplinary approach highlights the versatility of AR in various sectors within a smart city environment in enhancing resource efficiency, safety and user experience, making it a critical tool future urban development. © 2025 ieee.

This project presents the development of a realtime 3D visualization system for radiation measurements in GPS-denied environments. The system combines radiation detection with lidar-generated point cloud mapping, enabling operators to visualize radiation sources relative to their surroundings. Housed in various system configurations;a lightweight, portable backpack, and a roller-bag, the system allows for easy navigation and radiation mapping in challenging environments. Each system is equipped with an NVIDIA Jetson AGX Orin for data processing, and a Livox MID-360 lidar for 3D environmental scanning. The system supports both single and multi-user configurations, enabling collaborative radiation mapping efforts in complex scenarios. The data from each user is aggregated into a unified map, color-coded to indicate radiation levels. This comprehensive, real-time approach enhances situational awareness, particularly in environments where traditional radiation detection systems struggle. The system's lightweight visualization tools allow users to access radiation and environmental data remotely, either via handheld devices or web-based platforms like ROSBoard and Vizanti. The development focuses on improving both portability and real-time data visualization, making it suitable for large-scale environmental monitoring, public safety, and nuclear disaster response applications. Future improvements include enhanced data visualization techniques and further optimizations for handheld devices. © 2025 ieee.
