Due to the particularity of underwater complex environment, the small targets in underwater images cover impulse noise, speckle noise and other causes, resulting in low image resolution, single detail expression, low information entropy and average gradient. Therefore, this paper proposes an adaptive enhancement method for underwater small target images based on dense residual denoising. Combined with dense residual network-denoising technology, the feature extraction structure of underwater small target image is constructed, and the impulse noise part of the image is removed by median filtering, and then the speckle noise part of the image is removed by wavelet filtering to denoise the underwater small target image. Through the method of multi-scale averaging, the features of the enhanced image are in a balanced state, and the Sigmiod function is selected as the objective function of the image. By integrating dense residual network and adaptive enhancement strategy, the underwater small target image is enhanced. The experimental results show that the resolution of the image is significantly improved, the clarity is higher, the details are rich, and the information entropy and average gradient are higher after the image is enhanced by this method, thus achieving a better visual presentation effect of underwater small target images.

Currently, optical see-through augmented reality HMDs (OST AR HMDs) still have significant display limitations. This work presents a user study conducted with an OST AR HMD to investigate how two of these limitations-a small field of view and low resolution-affect task performance, user experience, workload, and simulator sickness in the context of immersive analytics. The Magic Leap 2 was used to simulate the display properties of other commonly used HMDs. The results suggest that a limited field of view negatively impacts user experience and workload, with the difference between the Magic Leap 2's field of view and that of the two generations of the Microsoft HoloLens being particularly striking. © 2025 ieee.

Situated visualizations (SV) and reality-based information retrieval systems, enhanced by Mixed Reality (MR) and Augmented Reality (AR), enable the overlay of digital information onto real-world objects, providing context-aware content through computer vision. Despite their potential, these systems face significant challenges in scalability and adaptability, particularly for domains like wine recognition, where diverse label designs, frequent updates, and limited historical databases complicate automated analysis. SOLLAMA (SOmmeLier LlAMA) is a novel wine recognition framework designed to address the scalability and adaptability challenges of AR systems in recognizing diverse wine labels. Leveraging Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs), SOLLAMA integrates visual and textual cues for accurate label interpretation, bypassing the need for extensive image datasets and traditional OCR methods. Built on the Augmented Wine Recognition (AWR) system, it replaces the OCR module with LLAMA 3.2 for advanced text recognition and contextual understanding. Key benefits include scalability across diverse designs and simplified, server-free deployment. Experimental validation on a dataset of wine labels from Italy's Emilia-Romagna region highlights the system's effectiveness and its potential to transform wine recognition in AR-based applications.

Robot appearance crucially shapes Human-Robot Interaction (HRI) but is typically described via broad categories like anthropomorphic, zoomorphic, or technical. More precise approaches focus almost exclusively on anthropomorphic features, which fail to classify robots across all types, limiting the ability to draw meaningful connections between robot design and its effect on interaction. In response, we present METAMORPH, a comprehensive framework for classifying robot morphology. Using a metamodeling approach, METAMORPH was synthesized from 222 robots in the ieee Robots Guide, offering a structured method for comparing visual features. This model allows researchers to assess the visual distances between robot models and explore optimal design traits tailored to different tasks and contexts.

Dynamic lighting is essential for creating realistic day-night cycles and enhancing augmented reality (AR) experiences. In this paper, we introduce a dynamic optical model that simulates the natural progression of light from sunrise to sunset and into nighttime, bringing environments to life. Our model leverages six photographic images as backgrounds for AR scenes and incorporates advanced rendering techniques to generate textured models and geometries. These textures are enhanced using novel image processing methods to improve contrast and visibility, particularly in low-light conditions. Our algorithm ensures a seamless blend between virtual elements and the natural world by matching AR lighting conditions with the real environment. The environment's light transitions dynamically, from daylight brightness to ambient nighttime light, with the sun acting as the primary light source, rotating around the virtual world to simulate realistic lighting and shading effects. This texture-sampling-based lighting algorithm adapts to real-time conditions, interactively adjusting the lighting to enhance AR elements, highlight critical information, and create immersive, believable experiences in virtual simulations and AR applications.

Singing melody extraction from polyphonic music is a complex but important task in music information retrieval. Harmonic relationships have been shown to be crucial in this task, but most existing models based on Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) struggle to capture long-range harmonic dependencies. To address this, we propose a Harmonic Attention-based Network (HANet) for singing melody extraction from polyphonic music, which includes multiple sampling layers. Specifically, each sampling layer uses three parallel Harmonic Attention Modules (HAMs) with CNNs of different kernel sizes to capture harmonic relationships across 1 to 6 octaves along the frequency axis. Additionally, the Channel Attention Module (CAM) is used to adaptively model long-range harmonic features across various octave ranges. Experimental results show that HANet achieves state-of-the-art performance on multiple public music melody datasets. The overall accuracy on the ADC2004 dataset reached a peak of 95.2%, with the lowest voicing false alarm result of 2.1%. visualization results directly demonstrate that harmonic information effectively reduces octave errors. This paper presents an FPGA-based hardware system designed to enhance immersive display and reduce latency in video streaming for remote-controlled and autonomous driving applications. The system improves operator immersion and response accuracy by utilizing a spherical display with real-time distortion correction. The system corrects spherical display distortions in real time by addressing challenges such as video distortion and data buffering through dedicated hardware solutions. It achieves a buffer reduction of approximately 40 %, enabling seamless video streaming even over limited network connections. Experimental evaluations confirm the system's capability to minimize latency while delivering high-quality, immersive visuals, positively impacting remote vehicle control precision.

This supplementary material offers additional experimental results and in-depth explanations to augment the content of the main paper. In Section 1, we elaborate extensively on the preliminary work. Subsequently, in Section 2, we delve into the implementation details of the Rope module. Following this, in Section 3, we provide a wealth of experimental data and model parameters pertaining to the effectiveness of the Rope module, facilitating a more intuitive comparison. Furthermore, we supply a comprehensive visualization of the attention results and corresponding analysis. Lastly, we present a plethora of challenging data to compare and validate the efficacy of our method in handling real-world occlusion issues, and discuss its limitations and instances of failure. Augmented Reality (AR) holds promise for improving visibility and accessibility of real-world objects. AR systems, however, often rely on 2D overlays or marker-based methods, which face limitations such as camera’s poor performance in low-light. We present a new approach to improve visual accessibility in AR. We developed a Unity-based application for the HoloLens 2, integrating Azure Object Anchors (AOA) for real-time 3D object detection with depth sensors. Using pre-scanned 3D models, the application detects and then projects virtual overlays on objects to increase their visibility while also logging eye gaze and spatial movement to enable evaluation of user interactions.

In endoscopic surgery, surgeons cannot use their own fingers and senses to perform the operation. This paper reports the first haptic array sensor that acquires force, friction, and temperature distribution information in the laparoscopic grasp, similar to what a fingertip would have. In addition to the development and performance evaluation of the device, this study also integrates packaging technology that effectively protects the device from over-range inputs and fluids such as blood. The fabricated device was mounted on a laparoscopic forceps gripper to simultaneously capture the distribution of gripping force, frictional force, and surface temperature, respectively, to clearly detect differences in target temperature, as well as slippage and gripping. As a result, we succeeded in visualizing for the first time the differences in slip mode and the characteristics of frictional behavior, which is a predictor of slippage, while maintaining both drip-proof performance and sensitivity.
