In this paper, a new capture system for UAV precision landing in a disturbed environment is proposed. Compared with the traditional visual guided landing methods, perching mechanism based methods, and tethered landing methods, the proposed system takes into account the stability during landing process and retains the high accessibility of the UAV. The proposed system consists of a winch subsystem and a magnetic catcher device. They establish an automatic tethered-UAV system for landing before the UAV touchdown. We analyzed the design principle as well as the feasibility of the magnetic catcher. An optimization problem is formulated to obtain a better layout of magnets on the catcher. The problem is relaxed based on interpolation simulation of attraction force. Experiments are conducted both in indoor and outdoor environments based on different UAV platforms respectively. The results validate that the catcher design and the capture system can achieve a successful landing in both cases.

Outlier detection is a fundamental data analytics technique often used for many security applications. Numerous outlier detection techniques exist, and in most cases are used to directly identify outliers without any interaction. Typically the underlying data used is often high dimensional and complex. Even though outliers may be identified, since humans can easily grasp low dimensional spaces, it is difficult for a security expert to understand/visualize why a particular event or record has been identified as an outlier. In this paper we study the extent to which outlier detection techniques work in smaller dimensions and how well dimensional reduction techniques still enable accurate detection of outliers. This can help us to understand the extent to which data can be visualized while still retaining the intrinsic outlyingness of the outliers.

Electricity infrastructure is getting complex along with the development of IoT technologies. To better understand and manage the power grid system and the real time monitoring datasets, it is essential to visualize the electricity infrastructure and the related dynamic IoT information in 3D. In this paper, we propose an online 3D visualization framework for electricity infrastructure based on Cesium platform. The 3D visual variable concept is applied to visualize the semantic information of the electricity system. Then 3DTiles structure is used to improve the rendering speed by implementing the multi-LoD. Finally, temporal information is dynamic illustrated with CZML method in Cesium. The experimental results indicate that the proposed framework can be used to create a user friendly and high performance interface by online 3D visualization.

This paper presents the development progress of a methodology to enhance the dynamic visualization of remote Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) using open source frameworks as Gazebo and ROS. The approach is based on a deterministic path pre-calculated by edge computing, accessible for a 3D web visualization cloud platform. The trajectory displayed is verified by a live position streaming from the AGV and a predicted communication delay value. By succeeding on the methodology proposed, it is expected to enhance the fidelity of the 3D live representation for every trajectory executed dynamically and autonomously by AGVs in the shop floor, leaving behind an initial scenario with low visualization fidelity due non-deterministic behavior of long-distance communication channels (including wireless networks essential for AGVs). This work aims to have an impact on improving the user experience of remote webbased interfacing tools to visualize the behavior of cyber-physical systems in agile manufacturing.

This work proposes a Variational AutoEncoder (VAE)-based rehabilitation framework that visualizes the vowel-mora for Japanese dysarthria. Traditionally, Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) has shown the guideline of rehabilitation for dysarthria, but they should rely only on clinical experience and case-by-case adaption, highlighting the urgent necessity to push the boundary for showing a subjective guideline, which does not depend on the perspective of SLPs. The proposed framework takes advantage of two-dimensional latent representations of vowel-mora, which is assumed to be pre-processed by mel-spectrogram, via VAE. The experiments highlight the effectiveness of our proposed framework.

The first compulsory courses in circuit analysis for the technology students at University of Vaasa create an important basis for the studies on Electrical Engineering. Here, the particular challenge for teaching has proven to be the creation of a new way of thinking for students, who have used memorization as their primary learning method. The first-year students have a heterogeneous starting level in knowledge and skills. This paper focuses on the positive experiences received at the University of Vaasa from utilizing visualisation, interactivity, repetition and testing in learning in an environment called STACK (System for Teaching and Assessment using a Computer algebra Kernel) which operates in the web browser. We have developed simple and representative problems of circuit analysis which, through repetition, introduces students into a new way of thinking and subjects them into deep learning. Additionally, the problems can be solved regardless of time and place, even in one's own personal pace. At the end of the course, feedback on using STACK has been collected from the students. It has been almost entirely positive, and more problems have been desired. It is found that students that did more exercises also passed the course with better grades.
