In modern medical diagnostics, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is an important technique that provides insights into anatomical structures. This paper presents a comprehensive methodology focusing on streamlining the segmentation, reconstruction, and visualization of MRI data for surgical training. Segmentation involves the extraction of anatomical regions with the help of state-of-the-art deep learning algorithms. Then, 3D reconstruction converts segmented data from the previous step into multiple 3D representations. Finally, the visualization stage provides efficient and interactive 2D and 3D MRI data presentations. After integrating these three steps, the proposed system is found to augment the interpretability of the anatomical information from MRI scans. Compared with other medical platforms such as 3D Slicer, our specialized system features less user effort and greater extensibility. It was originally designed and implemented for haptic feedback simulation in surgical training, but we believe it can also be an effective tool for surgical planning, joint learning, and other purposes.

Media influence's public opinion and decision-making today. Advertisements especially affect audience perceptions, actions, and purchases. A comprehensive data library on commercials and their performance is needed to understand how media affects society. Ad content, placement, and performance are stored in a data warehouse-based ad archive. The archive can evaluate marketing campaigns and discover media trends. Ad servers, social media platforms, and media monitoring tools may build the data warehouse-based ad archive. A dimensional data model helps retrieve and analyze data. Structured Query Language (SQL) queries, Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) cubes, and data visualization tools may access the archive. Media academics, marketers, and politicians may study the media environment using the data warehouse-based ad archive. Media academics may utilize the collection to study the marketing campaigns, media trends and media's influence on society. The archive may help advertisers analyze their ad campaigns, optimize media placement, and understand their target demographic. Policymakers may use the archive to monitor media outlets' advertising compliance and assess policy changes' media landscape effects. © 2023 ieee.

Understanding the needs of genomic data visualization techniques is important to help bioinformaticians to perform their comparative analytical tasks effectively. DNA sequencing datasets consist of a long sequential string of nucleotide base pairs combination and are often involved in multiple sequences alignment for comparative analysis. Therefore, existing challenges include designing suitable visualization layout and the need of user-centered approach to ensure optimal user experience. Existing works also featured heavily on the qualitative evaluation of comparative visualization tools, such as use cases and case studies, which are difficult to quantify and conduct follow up evaluation for tool improvement. Hence, this paper aims to understand the needs of visualization tools in comparative genomic analysis to identify visualization tasks and visual design requirements. The methodology includes the creation of semi-structured interview based on personas template as guiding questions and the synthesis of thematic analysis results. These results presented the requirements of the visualization tasks for the biodiversity domain based on comparative targets. For future work, this research will design, develop, and validate the comparative visualization tool based on the discovered requirements.

Cascaded faults in complex power grids are prone to large-scale blackouts, and vulnerable transmission lines in cascading failures play an important role. Finding out these lines in power grid is very important to prevent accidents. The determination indicators of previous research methods are single. In this paper, a comprehensive analysis is carried out from two aspects of system operation structure and line power flow carrying capacity, and a vulnerable line identification method based on PMU data and graph theory is proposed. Firstly, a topology map of the power system is constructed in combination with the characteristics of PMU data visualization in actual power grid. Secondly, combined with power exchange efficiency and energy fluctuation probability, vulnerable lines of the grid are screened, and the effectiveness of the index is tested. Finally, the simulation experiment is carried out in the ieee 30-bus system. Simulation results show that the proposed method can accurately identify weak transmission lines of the power grid. © 2022 ieee.

This research full paper describes the AR-Classroom application that utilizes augmented reality (AR) and physical and virtual manipulatives to enable undergraduate students to build intuition about the relation between spatial transformations and their mathematical representations. To further build on the app's usability and functionality, additional features are being prototyped to continue improving the user-app interaction with the AR-Classroom. Some of the challenges the students faced when using AR-Classroom were recalling basic matrix operations without geometric context, basic trigonometric functions and their applications in the two-dimensional space, loss of AR registration for not understanding the AR environment, and User Interface (UI) issues. To address these issues, a conversational Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based multi-sensory and interactive assistance has been added to the AR-Classroom. Integrating sophisticated language processing and response generation of AI with immersive three-dimensional capabilities of AR can create a more engaging learning experience than the previous versions of the app. This integration focuses on creating a symbiosis between AR and AI. It creates an elevated user experience by offering real-time, personalized assistance to students dealing with issues related to understanding mathematical concepts and functionalities of the app. A qualitative exploratory usability study was done to assess the user's interaction with the AI implemented in the AR-Classroom, aiming to explore the AI's ability to guide students in using AR technology and aid in introductory matrix algebra learning, to effectively serve the students' learning. Manifold learning approaches seek the intrinsic, low-dimensional data structure within a high-dimensional space. Mainstream manifold learning algorithms, such as Isomap, UMAP, t-SNE, Diffusion Map, and Laplacian Eigenmaps do not use data labels and are thus considered unsupervised. Existing supervised extensions of these methods are limited to classification problems and fall short of uncovering meaningful embeddings due to their construction using order non-preserving, class-conditional distances. In this paper, we show the weaknesses of class-conditional manifold learning quantitatively and visually and propose an alternate choice of kernel for supervised dimensionality reduction using a data-geometry-preserving variant of random forest proximities as an initialization for manifold learning methods. We show that local structure preservation using these proximities is near universal across manifold learning approaches and global structure is properly maintained using diffusion-based algorithms. © 2023 ieee.

As a recent trend in urbanization and intelligent technologies, smart lighting systems have been implemented in many major cities to support smart urban environments. This research developed a web application platform for data visualization and lighting device monitoring at Thammasat University, Rangsit Campus, Thailand. This implementation provides administrative and operative staff with an all-in-one platform through a convenient interface for monitoring, controlling, and collecting data from area devices and sensors. Platform development was divided into two sections: back-end application, providing application programming interface (API) endpoints, and front-end application, offering an interface for interacting with on-campus staff. Finally, the web application was deployed on a cloud platform so that responsible persons may access it on any device and acquire data in real time. Given the platform's capabilities, further data analytics may be proposed for building a smarter lighting system.

Vision is the main way for drivers to obtain information in the cockpit, and the quality of visual performance determines the driver's ability to gather information. Lighting is a necessary condition for visual perception, and the quality of lighting conditions directly affects the quality and speed at which drivers receive information. The lighting conditions are closely related to the driver's work efficiency, work quality, safety, comfort, vision, and health, making it an important factor in the work environment. Selecting and designing a reasonable lighting environment in the cockpit creates good and comfortable working conditions for the drivers, minimizing visual fatigue and ensuring the full function of the driver's vision.

VesselAI aims to develop, validate and demonstrate a unique framework to unlock the potential of extreme-scale data and advanced HPC, AI and Digital Twin technologies in the maritime industry. With the growth of data and the digitalization of the sector comes the need to process and visualise this information as the maritime industry generates and consumes huge amounts of different types of data every day. This paper presents literature review focusing on two aspects: (1) an examination of visualization tools available, and (2) an investigation into existing works and studies within the domain of Big Data visualization. This study addresses specific visualization requirements pertinent to the Maritime domain, including the necessity for intricate spatial-temporal visualizations encompassing diverse datasets such as weather patterns, vessel trajectories, and Automatic Identification System (AIS) data. VesselAI intends to build the VesselAI Visualisation and Reporting Engine to empower maritime users and stakeholders to make informed decisions and gather knowledge from data. To this end a platform based on Apache Superset was applied and tested in response to challenges faced by maritime stakeholders and the findings indicate that Apache Superset's robust capabilities, including a vast number of visualisation types supported, out-of-the-box data connectors, customization options, and security features, effectively met the requirements identified in the literature and by pilot users.

This paper introduces the novel Icon- based Graphic Code (IbGC), which is a new paradigm for Machine Readable Code (MRC) with configurable aesthetics. In IbGC, data is encoded as a sequence of icons positioned over the code region. The design and position of the icons is designed for each application, allowing complete control of the final aesthetics of the MRC.
