This article reflects on the challenges and successes of providing cutting-edge immersive visualization facilities for a variety of academic users. For over 25 years, the University visualization and Animation Group (now Advanced Research Computing) has provided cyberinfrastructure and support for designers, engineers, and scientists with data and visualization needs. We consider the history and evolution of these services and inventory several aspects of their research and educational impact. While there are many other examples of successful installations, we present evidence demonstrating the cross -cutting value of these institutional cyberinfrastructure resources and prospectives for future research.

The development of an ontology to model a complex system involves the capture of information related to multiple perspectives of that system, such as its architecture, requirements, and development processes. Each of these perspectives is defined by its own structure of concepts and relationships. Because these structures may differ dramatically from and may be developed independently of each other, the system ontology must be modular. A further complication for complex system ontologies is they must allow for the representation of subsystems developed by multiple suppliers, in which each supplier delivers one or more components of the overall system. In this paper, we address these needs with a hierarchical ontology that has a common "core" but allows for extending that core with "overlay models" personalized to distinct objectives, design terminologies, and perspectives. While hierarchical ontologies are not new, and rely on other well-known concepts such as views over relational data, our work is unique in that it is the first to incorporate automated, comprehensive verification that ensures that development by diverse teams can proceed in parallel so that they will be semantically consistent with each other when merged.

Access to data is becoming increasingly important to people, both professionals and non-professionals. With a proper representation, people can gain a mental model of the relations between entities related to different domains. The involvement in gathering data and creating representations can bring additional benefits in terms of awareness for all categories of people, as shown by the results of citizen science. As most data representations are designed for the visual channel, non-sighted people are not granted equal access opportunities. This represents a serious drawback in allowing everyone to gain an autonomous understanding of data and forces non-sighted people to rely only on interpretations provided by someone else. This paper contributes to improve this situation by proposing a physicalization toolkit for non-sighted persons that can be used to create and access data representations, starting from a tabular description. The toolkit is the result of the application of a methodology that begins with an initial mapping of the properties of physical objects to tasks associated with data understanding, arriving at a modular solution that can be applied to different use contexts. The physicalization toolkit is finally tested on an example related to the representation of environmental data gathered along a path.

The field of education has undergone a significant transformation due to the rapid advancements in Artificial Intelligence (AI). Among the various AI technologies, Knowledge Graphs (KGs) using Natural Language Processing (NLP) have emerged as powerful visualization tools for integrating multi-faceted information. In the context of university education, the availability of numerous specialized courses and complicated learning resources often leads to inferior learning outcomes for students. In this paper, we propose an automated framework for knowledge extraction, visual KG construction, and graph fusion, tailored for the major of Electronic information. Furthermore, we perform data analysis to investigate the correlation degree and relationship between courses, rank hot knowledge concepts, and explore the intersection of courses. Our objective is to enhance the learning efficiency of students and to explore new educational paradigms enabled by AI. The proposed framework is expected to enable students to better understand and appreciate the intricacies of their field of study by providing them with a comprehensive understanding of the relationships between the various concepts and courses.
