Smart cities can generate a lot of useful data for analyzing behavior and infrastructures, helping with urban planning. However, the applications found are often limited to desktop viewing only, which can hinder or restrict data analysis. This work proposes an immersive data visualization of the population of medical centers to assist in the analysis and development of new strategies to deal with overcrowding situations. The prototype allows the visualization of crowd data located in places of interest on top of a 3D map. The user can view the number of people present at the location at the current stage of the simulation or over time. To test the prototype, data from an infectious disease simulator was used, called LODUS. The results showed that the application has potential for visualizing this type of data.

Multi-mobile devices connected to large displays afford collaborative exploration of large data sets and make decisions. However, typical interfaces for the large, such as an overview of the whole data set, do not well designed to support collaboration and promote communication. This paper introduces one innovative multiple view on large displays that accommodate multiple individual viewports in different scales in the shared space to facilitate data exchange, data comparison, and support communication. We conducted a controlled study to evaluate our approach to traditional shared display interfaces. The experiment found our techniques improved collaboration effectiveness, and individual detailed viewports during data exploration play an essential role in collaboration. Our work can potentially improve and extend our understanding of how to visualize information on shared displays.

This work describes a software platform to extract data from an existent energy analyser by Modbus TCP/IP protocol and saves them in a MySQL database. We propose an AR system using Apple Vision Pro (AVP) to assess the accuracy of guide plate positioning in lumbar surgery. It leverages preoperative CT data and integrates fiducial marker tracking to automate the initial alignment of a virtual vertebra with the intraoperative anatomy. Additionally, we developed a graphical interface for the AVP platform, which allows manual adjustment of the pose and visualization of the virtual vertebra. The system was tested on 3D-printed lumbar phantoms, an ex vivo pig lumbar specimen, and two in vivo pig surgeries. Results demonstrated accurate guide plate alignment and superior visualization, validating the potential of AR systems in improving surgical precision in lumbar procedures.

Determining the layout of a graph from an aesthetic point-of-view is a challenging task and becomes difficult with the increase in complexity of a graph. Aesthetic attributes of graphs can be captured in terms of metrics such as the number of edge crossings, uniform edge lengths, visualization of loops in causal loop diagrams, and a minimum distance between neighboring nodes. These metrics are then used as objectives in an evolutionary algorithm to obtain the optimal set of trade-off solutions, leading to a pleasing layout. As the number of aesthetic measures could be more than three, we propose a framework based on a many-objective evolutionary algorithm to produce aesthetically pleasing graph layouts. The outcome of this approach is compared with the ForceAtlas2 force-directed layout algorithm and the proposed approach demonstrates better results for the objectives.

This study evaluates the influence of various visual representations of numerical values on users' ability to multitask in virtual reality. We designed a game-like VR simulation where users had to complete one main task while maintaining the status of other subtasks. Supplemental visualizations showed risk status of the subtask depending on experimental condition, with different visual data encodings: position, brightness, color, and area. We collected preliminary data (n=18) on participant performance during the experiment and subjective ratings afterward. The results showed that the intervention rate significantly differed between the four visual encodings, with the position-based version having the lowest rate.

In our doctoral research, we aim to investigate how a graphical model of a program and its analysis results can support the engineer's understanding. These proceedings contain 101 of the 180 ieee VR 2024 papers, with the other 79 papers being published in the ieee VR 2024 special issue of the Transactions on visualization and Computer Graphics. ieee VR 2024 had 627 submissions for an acceptance rate of 101/627=16.1% as conference papers, or 180/627=28.7% when including the journal papers.

With the increasingly severe cyberspace security situation, situational awareness has become a focus in the field of Cyberspace Security. The effect of situational awareness decision-making depends on the breadth and depth of data, the rationality of data processing, and the clarity and intuition of the presentation method. This paper designs a situational awareness platform, introduces vulnerability identification and fusion, situational awareness and data visualization. In particular, the data fusion method of online and offline multi-source vulnerability is proposed to enrich the data sources, and the soft splicing technology of display arrays is used to improve the visual compatibility under high resolution. In this paper, the data processing method is continuously optimized through experiments, which improves the overall processing efficiency and prediction accuracy of the platform.
