An average of 795,000 people have a stroke each year in the US and stroke is the leading cause of disability. Even though repetitive rehabilitation exercises on a regular basis are the key for motor recovery after stroke, only about one-third of patients follow prescribed exercise regimens. With the development of computer technologies and wearable devices, numerous mobile-based rehabilitation solutions have been proposed. However, how to quantify observations of motor recovery during and after exercise remains a challenge. Typically, if the smoothness of a patient's movement is improved, it indicates the patient's motor recovery. But the equipment to test the movement smoothness can be costly and inefficient, therefore not suitable for the home environment. In this paper, we introduce a mobile based rehab solution to support home exercises for stroke survivors and demonstrate its effectiveness by visualizing and qualitatively analyzing movement data captured by the proposed app. Specifically, we compute smoothness of movement for 15 patients over a 6-week user study. Exercises are designed and monitored by Occupational Therapy domain experts. We compute smoothness using log-dimensionless jerk (LDLJ) and Spectral Arc Length (SPARC) methods. Additionally, we study the Range of Motion (ROM) for each movement and explore the correlation between ROM and upper extremity movement.

This study aims to map out supply chains (SC) in industrial estate (IE) research and their distribution, which can be used as a reference for supply chains in IE research. Integrating supply chain management and IEs can improve the operational efficiency of IEs and increase the industry’s competitive advantage and company performance. This study was conducted in 2022 and explored supply chains in IE literature using bibliometric analysis. The data source was obtained from the Scopus database, with keywords related to supply chain and IE. The visualization results showed the research trends, paper distribution, insights, and impact of the supply chain in IE from various domains. This study has shortcomings, including that the database source only uses Scopus, and many visualization results using VOSviewer can be explored further.

Dense multi-view 3D displays appropriately combined with camera arrays may provide consistently augmented reality, where we enjoy a simple solution of occlusion caused by visual obstructions in the real world as if they were transparent for many users at the same time. In this paper, toward such multi-view systems electrically transmitting light fields beyond visual obstructions, we propose a novel method for real-time dense interpolation of entire 4D light fields acquired by sparse viewpoints. First, we discuss appearances of our proposed multi-view system, while examining how dense 4D light fields should be. Then, we propose a novel method of real-time 4D light field interpolation to develop an inexpensive system by reducing the number of image sensors to acquire 4D light fields. By introducing simple depth estimation from equally-spaced multi-view images without severe increase of computational cost, the novel method significantly improves reconstruction quality of the previously proposed one, that can only work for almost constant depths. Finally, experimental results show that our practical implementation on a GPGPU achieves real-time interpolation of entire 4D light fields while obtaining sufficient quality of reconstructed images. It is even comparable to that of various conventional methods for view interpolation, which depend on high computational cost not suitable for our real-time applications.

Then, based on the proposed optimized configuration method and coordination control strategy, develop a visualization simulation platform for the optimized configuration and coordinated control of thermal energy storage joint frequency modulation using Matlab App Designer. Popular sports tracking applications allow athletes to share and compare their personal performance data with others. Visualizing this data in relevant public settings can be beneficial in provoking novel types of opportunistic and communal sense-making. We investigated this premise by situating an analytical visualization of running performances on two touch-enabled public displays in proximity to a local community running trail. Using a rich mixed-method evaluation protocol during a three-week-long in-the-wild deployment, we captured its social and analytical impact across 235 distinct interaction sessions. Our results show how our public analytical visualization supported passers-by to create novel insights that were rather of casual nature. Several textual features that surrounded the visualization, such as titles that were framed as provocative hypotheses and predefined attention-grabbing data queries, sparked interest and social debate, while a narrative tutorial facilitated more analytical interaction patterns. Our detailed mixed-methods evaluation approach led to a set of actionable takeaways for public visualizations that allow novice audiences to engage with data analytical insights that have local relevance.
