This paper presents an accurate and scalable method for fiducial tag localization on a 3D prior environmental map. The proposed method comprises three steps: 1) visual odometry-based landmark SLAM for estimating the relative poses between fiducial tags, 2) geometrical matching-based global tag-map registration via maximum clique finding, and 3) tag pose refinement based on direct camera-map alignment with normalized information distance. Through simulationbased evaluations, the proposed method achieved a 98 % global tag-map registration success rate and an average tag pose estimation accuracy of a few centimeters. Experimental results in a real environment demonstrated that it enables to localize over 110 fiducial tags placed in an environment in 25 minutes for data recording and post-processing.

CellProfiler Analyst (CPA) has enabled the scientific research community to explore image-based data and classify complex biological phenotypes through an interactive user interface since its release in 2008. This paper describes CellProfiler Analyst Web (CPAW), a newly redesigned and web-based version of the software, allowing for greater accessibility, quicker setup, and facilitating a simple workflow for users. Installation and managing new versions has been challenging and time-consuming, historically. CPAW is an alternative that ensures installation and future updates are not a hassle to the user. CPAW ports the core iteration loop of CPA to a pure server-less browser environment using modern web-development technologies, allowing computationally heavy activities, like machine learning, to occur without freezing the user interface (UI). With a setup as simple as navigating to a website, CPAW presents a clean UI to the user to refine their classifier and explore phenotypic data easily. We evaluated both the old and the new version of the software in an extensive domain expert study. We found that users could complete the essential classification tasks in CPAW and CPA 3.0 with the same efficiency. Additionally, users completed the tasks 20 percent faster using CPAW compared to CPA 3.0. The code of CellProfiler Analyst Web is open-source and available at https://***/CellProfilerAnalystWeb/.

Assessing consciousness results in one of the most complex neurological diagnosis. Even more complex and uncertain is prognosticating on consciousness recovery. Currently, consciousness is assessed by using a six-items scale, the Coma Recovery Scale-Revised. Namely, scores on the sub-items can individually assign or not a specific level of consciousness to a patient. In our work, by using solely the six sub-items of the CRS-R, we implemented a clustering algorithm labeling patients with the Consciousness-Domains Index (CDI) starting from a dataset of 190 patients with a Disorder of Consciousness (DoC). Then, the CDI is compared with the clinical state at admission and at six months via univariate analysis. The number of clusters best dividing the groups resulted equal to two and the most influencing sub-items resulted the visual and motor one. The CDI closely resembles the clinical state at admission (CSA) (Cohen's k = 0.85). On the other hand, when comparing CDI and CSA, a net improvement was found in the prognostic power of the neurological outcome at six months, targeted as presence/absence of a DoC (p < 0.001). Data-driven techniques pave the way for automated and model-based search of prognostic factors, together with the use of such prognostic factors in multivariate prognostic models. Future works will address the external validation of the CDI, together with the inclusion of the CDI in a multivariate supervised model, in order to assess the true potential of such novel index.

Quality scores provide a measure to evaluate the utility of biometric samples for biometric recognition. Biometric recognition systems require high-quality samples to achieve optimal performance. This paper focuses on face images and the measurement of face image utility with general and face-specific image quality metrics. While facespecific metrics rely on features of aligned face images, general image quality metrics can be used on the global image and relate to human perceptions. In this paper, we analyze the gap between the general image quality metrics and the face image quality metrics. Our contribution lies in a thorough examination of how different the image quality assessment algorithms relate to the utility for the face recognition task. The results of image quality assessment algorithms are further compared with those of dedicated face image quality assessment algorithms. In total, 25 different quality metrics are evaluated on three face image databases, BioSecure, LFW, and VGGFace2 using three open-source face recognition solutions, SphereFace, ArcFace, and FaceNet. Our results reveal a clear correlation between learned image metrics to face image utility even without being specifically trained as a face utility measure. Individual handcrafted features lack general stability and perform significantly worse than general face-specific quality metrics. We additionally provide a visual insight into the image areas contributing to the quality score of a selected set of quality assessment methods.

A new method for 3D visualization simulation of multi-UAV layered azimuthal formation and obstacle avoidance is proposed in this paper. Firstly, the azimuthal stiffness theory is applied to make the formation shape more stable. Secondly, a distributed formation control law for different layers of UAV s under the azimuthal stiffness theory is proposed, and a rigorous proof of system stability is provided. Thirdly, a UAV obstacle avoidance method based on artificial potential field is proposed to obtain the secure operating environment. Finally, a visualization simulation is carried out in Matlab to verify the formation and obstacle avoidance effect, and the simulation results illustrate the effectiveness of the method.

The 3D city metaphor in software visualization is a well-explored rendering method. Numerous tools use their custom variation to visualize offline-analyzed data. Heat map overlays are one of these variants. They introduce a separate information layer in addition to the software city's own semantics. Results show that their usage facilitates program comprehension. In this paper, we present our heat map approach for the city metaphor visualization based on live trace analysis. In comparison to previous approaches, our implementation uses live dynamic analysis of a software system's runtime behavior. At any time, users can toggle the heat map feature and choose which runtime-dependent metric the heat map should visualize. Our approach continuously and automatically renders both software cities and heat maps. It does not require a manual or semiautomatic generation of heat maps and seamlessly blends into the overall software visualization. We implemented this approach in our web-based tool ExplorViz, such that the heat map overlay is also available in our augmented reality environment. ExplorViz is developed as open source software and is continuously published via Docker images. A live demo of ExplorViz is publicly available.
