It remains a challenge to efficiently represent spatial-temporal data for 3D action recognition. To solve this problem, this paper presents a new skeleton-based action representation using data visualization and convolutional neural networks, which contains four main stages. First, skeletons from an action sequence are mapped as a set of five dimensional points, containing three dimensions of location, one dimension of time label and one dimension of joint label. Second, these points are encoded as a series of color images, by visualizing points as RGB pixels. Third, convolutional neural networks are adopted to extract deep features from color images. Finally, action class score is calculated by fusing selected deep features. Extensive experiments on three benchmark datasets show that our method achieves state-of-the-art results.
Empirical investigation in the European aerospace industry has shown major drawbacks in the way design teams share information about the value contribution of a solution during early design stages. Across functions an...

Local cultural heritage document collections are characterized by contents strongly attached to a territory and its history. Our contribution aims at enhancing such a content retrieval process efficiently each time a query includes geographic criteria. We propose a core model for a formal representation of geographic information. It takes into account the characteristics of different expression modes: written language and captures of drawings, maps, photographs, etc. We have developed a prototype fully implementing geographic information Extraction (IE) and geographic information Retrieval (IR) processes. We approach geographic IE from semantic processings additionally to classic IE approaches. This paper focuses on IR and informationvisualization (ITS) proposals relying on the geospatial characteristics of documents.

We introduce a visualization system of micro-scale air quality monitoring system in the virtual reality environment. The system is targeting to provide everyday air quality by adopting VR-based visualization method. With the system casual users can get insight of air quality data intuitively. The system targets to provide interactive manipulation of actual sensors in ubiquitous environment, to retrieve specific data. Users can manipulate sensors in VR environment. To provide interactive manipulation of massive sensor data, an adaptive visualization method is proposed. For the adaptive visualization, the visualization and interaction data are separated from air quality data. With this layered approach, the visualization module can interactively decide appearances and detail levels for interactivity independently to original data quality and complexity. As an exemplar system an application with a display-wall is constructed. This system can provide accessibility for air quality data to people one public space.

Kimono is a key point in Japanese culture. In the kimono market, one type of kimono was called Yukata. Yukata is always produced in mass production in considering price. In order to promote prestigious kimonos, kimono stores usually present new styles or customer-tailored designs in response to different seasons. Of the varied kimonos, it is possible to let customers choose the style they prefer. From this point of view, this study tries to explore the behavior of the customers who get involved in the design process of a kimono where they participate and endeavor to create and even to promote their individual appreciation and value. This study collected many cases consisting of different kimono patterns and tried to analyze and induce the grammar of kimono patterns. Then, based on this grammar, a design system of kimono pattern can be built. Customers use this design system to input their likes such as floriography and various flowers. This system provides information concerning visualized patterns such as pattern elements (color, alignment, and etc). Finally, the pattern elements generated by the customer's likes are incorporated into the kimono grammar. In other words, the grammar of kimono pattern is constructed and refined on the basis of the results of this design system. The refined grammar can be used to analyze the existing kimono patterns as well. Through the continuing refinement and analysis of the kimono grammar, we could trace back the history of a kimono by its pattern, and by use of the cycling work people are able to preserve one of the cultural assets - the kimono pattern, its design knowledge and Japanese cultural heritage.

The assessment of repository evolution is particularly complex when one needs to analyze both 1) how the codebase is organized hierarchically and 2) how this codebase evolves over time. To address this problem, we developed Git Truck, a visualization tool that includes multiple views for the analysis of the evolution of hierarchically organized Git repositories. We conducted a preliminary user evaluation with 18 participants who, using a remote and asynchronous method, installed Git Truck, used it, and filled in a questionnaire to report their experience and impressions. We learned that participants consider particularly useful views that help them with understanding the contribution level of team members and views that highlight the parts of the system that change the most. The participants see Git Truck as a highly specialized tool;not for daily use but rather for a lower frequency of use.

Histopathological characterization of colorectal polyps is an important principle for determining the risk of colorectal cancer and future rates of surveillance for patients. The process of characterization is time-intensive and requires years of specialized medical training. In this work, we propose a deep-learning-based image analysis approach that not only can accurately classify different types of polyps in whole-slide images, but also generates major regions and features on the slide through a model visualization approach. We argue that this visualization approach will make sense of the underlying reasons for the classification outcomes, significantly reduce the cognitive burden on clinicians, and improve the diagnostic accuracy for whole-slide image characterization tasks. Our results show the efficacy of this network visualization approach in recovering decisive regions and features for different types of polyps on whole-slide images according to the domain expert pathologists.
