The main challenge of dynamic analysis is the huge volume of data, making it difficult to extract high level views. Most techniques developed so far adopt a fine-grained approach to address this issue. In this paper we introduce a novel approach representing entire traces as signals in time. Drawing this analogy between dynamic analysis and signal processing, we are able to access a rich toolkit of well-established and ready-to-use analysis techniques. As an application of this analogy, we show how to fit a visualization of the complete feature space of a system on one page only: our approach visualizes feature traces as time plots, summarizes the trace signals and uses Dymanic Time Warping to group them by similar features. We apply the approach on a case study, and discuss both common and unique patterns as observed on the visualization.

In this paper we will show how to obtain a better comprehension of the behavior of large and complex software systems using visualization and program animation. Use cases are used in the software development industry for the purpose of better understanding of software systems. The problem is that use cases for large and complex software systems are themselves large and complex. We have built a tool called Scenario Explorer to help the user handle this complexity by guiding him or her through the use cases. The user is provided with just enough information to comprehend the behavior of interest. Tools like this are crucial for developers that need to obtain a better comprehension of a whole software system, for example newcomers in a project or managers. Scenario Explorer was built at Ericsson and applied to a subset of a large and complex software system.

Search experts use advanced query language and search tactics to formulate their queries. However, the effectiveness of those advanced techniques depends on the search engine internals. We propose QueryCrumbs for Experts, a compact visualization, which facilitates insights to the search engine internals and therefore allows the searcher to determine effective search strategies. Treating the search engine as a black box, QueryCrumbs can be seamlessly integrated into existing search interfaces, guiding the user's exploration and assessment of results. QueryCrumbs for Experts visualize the recent search history alongside with a simple and also a qualitative comparison of the result sets, from which conclusions about the search engine internals can be drawn. The evaluation shows that, by identifying specific patterns in the visualization, expert users can gain valuable insights into search engine internals, empowering them to adapt their search accordingly.

Understanding the underlying reasons behind employee attrition is crucial for businesses seeking to address this issue. However, in addition to accurate predictions of employee turnover, the explainability of these analytics results is equally important to gain user trust. Many existing data analytics techniques provide predictions and recommendations in an opaque "black box" manner, making it challenging for humans to understand the reasoning behind them. In this paper, we present an explainable artificial intelligence (XAI) solution that combines cutting-edge techniques and enhances them to generate practical and comprehensible explanations for endusers. To assess the effectiveness of our XAI solution, we conduct a case study using real-life employee turnover data. This paper presents a procedure for virtual autopsies based on interactive 3D visualizations of large scale, high resolution data from CT-scans of human cadavers. The procedure is described using examples from forensic medicine and the added value and future potential of virtual autopsies is shown from a medical and forensic perspective. Based on the technical demands of the procedure state-of-the-art volume rendering techniques are applied and refined to enable real-time, full body virtual autopsies involving gigabyte sized data on standard GPUs. The techniques applied include transfer function based data reduction using level-of-detail selection and multi-resolution rendering techniques. The paper also describes a data management component for large, out-of-core data sets and an extension to the GPU-based raycaster for efficient dual TF rendering. Detailed benchmarks of the pipeline are presented using data sets from forensic cases.

This paper deals with problems of visualization of dynamic phenomena. An effort to develop new visualization schemes has been described. The main idea is to extend approaches used in the case of visualization of phenomena of static nature into an environment where dynamic phenomena are investigated and visualized. We introduced die "level of detail" approach in time scaling in the environment of dynamic processes where time plays a primary role. In the case of visualization of dynamic phenomena the users are looking for specific dynamic patterns that should help them to understand in a better way the nature of dynamic processes under investigation. A new approach that should meet these requirements has been developed. This approach has been verified by means of two systems used for simulation and visualization of technological processes that are of a dynamic nature.
