In this paper, we present a complex solution for flight data gathering, analyzation, and visualization. This solution can be used for the Competency-Based Training of pilots in general aviation. For the data gathering, we are introducing a concept of an embedded device. For data analyzation, we are introducing the approach for algorithmic detection of flight maneuvers based on the recorded flight data. There is a multiplatform software application for data visualization. We are also describing the reasons for creating such solutions and potential future uses of our hardware and software products. This paper is mostly describing the important requirements and their implementation regarding the future usage for Competency-Based Training of pilots in general aviation. We are not describing a lot of technical details to keep this paper straightforward and we are mostly focusing on passing the whole idea and benefits of our products.

We present a software System (http://***) that integrates information from multiple resources and hypothesizes pathways for one organism (e.g. Gallus gallus) using the curated pathways of another organism (e.g. Homo sapiens). The hypothetical pathways are also automatically visualized into graphs and posted online with related detailed information.
The use of a cluster for distributed performance analysis of parallel trace data is discussed. We propose an analysis architecture that uses multiple cluster nodes as a server to execute analysis operations in paralle...

Static analysis results can be overwhelming depending on their complexity and the total number of results. Interactive graph visualization can help engineers explore the connections between different code entities while visually supporting insights about the code's behaviour. In our doctoral research, we aim to investigate how a graphical model of a program and its analysis results can support the engineer's understanding. We expect that a graphical interface can ease the diagnose of faults and reduce the cognitive load required to comprehend reported control and data flows present in the codebase.

Hardware design is increasingly shifted towards higher abstraction levels to cope with the complexity of modern systems. For this purpose, the concept of Hardware/Software Co-Design has been established. Systems are implemented in high-level languages such as C++ or SystemC, providing an executable prototype without requiring designers to decide in an early stage on whether features should be implemented in hardware or software. For these, just like for pure hardware or software systems, design understanding remains crucial. Hardware/Software Co-visualization (HSCV) is a concept that has recently been proposed to assist developers in communicating features of their design. Especially for visualizations, designers need to be able to quickly generate the underlying data and the resulting visual representation. This paper illustrates the current state of HSCV and proposes a methodology to harmonize the visualization data being generated from Electronic System Level designs written in SystemC.

The research field of Process Mining deals with the extraction of information from event logs. Since large amounts of event data are generated every day, analyzing these often unstructured event logs poses a research challenge. To cope with the complexity of the data and the associated mining tasks, appropriate visualizations and interactive means are needed. We present our early prototype for the visual exploration of event sequences and patterns. Our approach combines (1) a visual representation of event sequences emphasizing recurring event patterns, (2) automated pattern mining methods, as well as (3) interactive means for exploration. We provide first steps to support browsing event logs in an interactive environment and to facilitate the inspection of recurring pattern locations within the context of the surrounding events.

This paper presents a unified framework for finding differentially expressed genes (DEGs) from the two-sample microarray data. The proposed framework has three interrelated modules viz. (i) two-way clustering, ii) adaptive ranking and iii) visualization. The first module uses a progressive clustering technique to functionally classify the marker genes as well as finding the DEGs and the second module yields a list of DEGs ranked based on statistical significance. A weighted scheme is employed to fuse the two-way clustering and ranking modules to find DEGs. A visualization module is added to validate the results. Empirical analyses on 50 artificially generated microarray datasets and 2 cancer datasets show that the unified framework performs better in finding DEGs when compared to reported results on the same datasets.

Event-based encoding reduces the amount of generated data while keeping relevant information in the measured magnitude. While this encoding is mostly associated with spiking neuromorphic systems, it can be used in a broad spectrum of tasks. The extension of event-based data representation to other sensors would provide advantages related to bandwidth reduction, lower computing requirements, increased processing speed and data processing. This work describes two event-based encoding procedures (magnitude-event and rate-event) for two sensors widely used in industry, especially for navigation in mobile systems: digital magnetic compass and ultrasonic distance sensor. Encoded data meet Address Event Representation (AER) format for further transmission, processing and visualization. Two encoding procedures and their associated AER conversion from sensor data are described, using an AVR microprocontroller to perform the task in real-time. Results are transmitted to a computer via USART, displayed and recorded using Matlab or jAER visualization tool. A comparison with classic transmitting and processing of sensor data is done to evaluate the convenience of the proposed encoding. Results show that data transmission bandwith can be reduced up to 95% under certain conditions, envisaging that pure or mixed regular/event-based data sensors are desirable for high speed transmission and low computer processing while keeping relevant information, which is highly desirable for mobile systems.

visualization stimulates the cognitive capacity of humans and facilitates the understanding of a subject. It performs a crucial role in teaching software architecture. As systems become more complex, new education proposals have been introduced in the classroom, especially those that make teaching more attractive to students. This paper presents the VisAr3D approach which was designed to provide a 3D visualization of UML models, where the user should intuitively understand architectural elements in this 3D environment. It includes exploration, interaction and simulation resources to establish a practical and pleasant learning activity, focusing in large scale systems.

Whole Body PET (WB-PET) is used routinely as a clinical procedure for detection of primary and metastatic lesions. In the standard imaging protocol, up to 500 transaxial are produced. To facilitate viewing of the large data set, only a limited set of coronal and sagittal cross sectional images are used for diagnostic review. Since these images only represent a sub-set of the entire image volume, it is desirable to develop visualization tools that would allow viewing of the full data set. A second factor that makes localization of lesions in WB-PET difficult is the fact that the emission images contain little or no anatomical information. A means to provide some level of anatomical orientation can be obtained from the transmission images. In this work we present a visualization package which allows 3-D visualization of the entire WB-PET image set, using surface rendering and image fusion techniques. The software allows real-time, simultaneous, reslicing of the emission and transmission data into arbitrary coronal and sagittal cross sectional slices. The package also provides near real time, 3-D rendering of transmission data, and merging of emission and transmission data. The software is based on the IDL visualization package and is currently implemented on a SUN SPARC 10/41.
