The Geant4 toolkit contains polygon-based visualization drivers that render simulated geometric definitions of matter and particle trajectories. However, since this toolkit does not have a function of volume rendering, it cannot be used to display patient data. Furthermore, this toolkit does not display the simulated dose distribution. In order to resolve these problems, a novel visualization tool, called "gMocren" is developed. gMocren can simultaneously display both the volume data for a patient and the simulated dose distribution. As well, gMocren helps the user intuitively and easily confirm the simulation results.

In this paper, we addressed the mini- challenge I. To efficiently identify odd behaviors and general patterns, visual analytics was used to parse trajectory data of vehicles and support spatial analyses. Firstly, the adjacent relations among spatial objects were extracted and then simplified as a topological graph. Base on the topological representation, cluster methods and spatio-temporal visualization were utilized to conduct a compre- hensive analysis. Through visual analytics on the topological graph, we found general and regular behavior patterns of passages in the preserve and recognize outliers that reflected odd behaviors.

We present a haptic rendering technique that uses directional constraints to facilitate enhanced exploration modes for volumetric datasets. The algorithm restricts user motion in certain directions by incrementally moving a proxy point along the axes of a local reference frame. Reaction forces are generated by a spring coupler between the proxy and the data probe, which can be tuned to the capabilities of the haptic interface. Secondary haptic effects including field forces, friction, and texture can be easily incorporated to convey information about additional characteristics of the data. We illustrate the technique with two examples: displaying fiber orientation in heart muscle layers and exploring diffusion tensor fiber tracts in brain white matter tissue. Initial evaluation of the approach indicates that haptic constraints provide an intuitive means for displaying directional information in volume data.

We present TopoAngler, a visualization framework that enables an interactive user-guided segmentation of fishes contained in a micro-CT scan. The inherent noise in the CT scan coupled with the often disconnected (and sometimes broken) skeletal structure of fishes makes an automatic segmentation of the volume impractical. To overcome this, our framework combines techniques from computational topology with an interactive visual interface;enabling the human-in-the-loop to effectively extract fishes from the volume. In the first step;the join tree of the input is used to create a hierarchical segmentation of the volume. Through the use of linked views;the visual interface then allows users to interactively explore this hierarchy, and gather parts of individual fishes into a coherent sub-volume, thus reconstructing entire fishes. Our framework was primarily developed for its application to CT scans of fishes, generated as part of the ScanAllFish project. through close collaboration with their lead scientist. However, we expect it to also be applicable in other biological applications where a single dataset contains multiple specimen: a common routine that is now widely followed in laboratories to increase throughput of expensive CT scanners.

In this paper, a visualization system of immersion into 3D magnetic field based on the augmented reality technology using a head mounted display, for education purpose, is presented. By utilizing the proposed visualization method, a user can easily observe and perceive in real-time a magnetic field distribution generated by single/multiple sources (e. g., permanent magnets and/or coils) and other magnetic/nonmagnetic material in an augmented 3-D space.

Several profilers for general-purpose languages like Java offer visualizations to support users in understanding the execution of a program and identifying the causes of a performance issue. Unfortunately, these performance visualizations are difficult to reuse in profilers for declarative model transformations since they cannot display transformation-specific information. For example, a profiler for a declarative model transformation language must provide information on the traversal of the input model since it impacts the performance but is hidden from the developer. Moreover, the respective visualization must scale for input models that consist of several thousand model elements. Hence, we developed performance visualizations for the declarative model transformation language Henshin that provide insights into the transformation execution. Subsequently, we performed a mixed methods study with 18 Henshin novices to evaluate the effectiveness of our visualizations. In our study, the participants tried to improve the execution performance of four transformations by performing a root cause analysis using our visualizations. The results of our study show that depending on the task, between 16 and 18 participants understood the execution of a transformation correctly based on our visualizations. Moreover, between 12 and 18 participants proposed effective optimizations using our visualizations.

We present a visualization tool for human motion analysis in augmented reality. Our tool builds upon our previous work on joint biomechanical modelling for kinematic analysis, based on optical motion capture and personalized anatomical reconstruction of joint structures from medical imaging. It provides healthcare professionals with the in situ visualization of joint movements, where bones are accurately rendered as a holographic overlay on the subject- like if the user has an "X-ray vision" - and in real-time as the subject performs the movement. Currently, hip and knee joints are supported.

Collaborations between the MIT Media Lab, NHK, and Toshiba Memory Corporation are exploring applications for large touch- and gesture-sensing 8K screens, including collaborative educational games, interactive visualizations for extremely dense anatomical datasets, and novel interfaces for exploring large media archives. In this paper I give an overview of the project, describe four representative applications, and provide design and user experience lessons learned.

A visualization to aid in the construction of inference-based decentralized supervisors is presented. In the inference-based architecture, supervisors have different levels of ambiguity, which reflects to what degree a supervisor is confident in its control decision and to what degree a supervisor infers a control decision based on the supervisor's knowledge of another supervisor's control decision.
