information about source code changes is important for many software development activities. As such, modern IDEs, including, IntelliJ IDEA and Visual Studio Code, show visual clues within the code editor that highlight lines that have been changed since the last synchronization with the code repository. However, the granularity of the change information is limited to a line level, showing mainly a small colored icon on the left side of the lines that have been added, deleted, or modified. This paper introduces Spike, a source code highlighting plugin that uses the font color to visually encode fine-grained version difference information within the code editor. In contrast to previously mentioned tools, Spike can highlight insertions, deletions, updates, and refactorings all in a same line. Our plugin also enriches the source code with small icons that allow retrieving detailed information about a given code change. We perform an exploratory user study with five professional software engineers. Our results show that our approach is able to assist practitioners with complex comprehension tasks about software history within the code editor.

The traditional malware classification method relies too much on expert extraction features, and the malware image visualization method contains fewer features. To deal with these problems, we propose a multi-channel visualization method for malware classification based on deep learning. Firstly, the malware binary file is divided into a 256x256-dimensional matrix according to the width of 256 bytes. Secondly, the Word2Vec algorithm is used to calculate the 256-dimensional vector of each byte in each binary file, and then the file is converted to a 256x256-dimensional matrix. Thirdly, we use the Word2Vec algorithm to calculate the 256-dimensional vector of each assembly instruction in each assembly file, and then the file is converted into a 256x256-dimensional matrix. Fourthly, for each malware sample, 3 matrixes are combined into an uncompressed multi-channel image. Finally, the LeNetS is used for training classification model. The experimental results show that the average accuracy is 98.76%.

Volume visualization from object cross sections has created the need for object labeling in volume data sets. Labeling techniques for 3D objects vary from the memory-intensive connected-component labeling to the less intense overlap technique. In this paper, a novel labeling technique is presented that represents the objects with curves in 3D and then performs labeling by applying 3D curve tracing techniques and mapping the labels back to the 3D objects. The technique thus attempts to replicate aspects of the human visual approach to the task.

Sediments in many parts of the New York and New Jersey estuary system are contaminated with toxic organic and inorganic compounds by different sources. Because of the potential environmental consequences, detailed information on the spatial distribution of sediment contaminants is essential in order to carry out routine shipping channel dredging in an environmentally responsible way, and to remediate hot spots cost-effectively and safely. Scientific visualization and scatter data modeling techniques have been successfully applied in analyzing the sparse sampling data of sediment contaminants in New York and New Jersey estuaries, the underlying spatial characteristics of which are otherwise difficult to comprehend. Continuous realizations of contaminant concentrations in the region were obtained by using a spectral domain-decomposition scattered data model and IBM Data Explorer which is a software package for scientific data visualization.

Plethora of software tools are available for inference and visualization of Gene Regulatory Networks (GRN) with their relative strengths and weaknesses. System and computational biologists quite often find it difficult to select a candidate tool for their experimentation. In this paper we present a comprehensive study on some of the promising and influential software tools developed so far for in-silico reconstruction and visualization of GRN. We discuss the features of each tool, the underlying technology used along with their relative merits and limitations. Researchers normally use synthetic gene expression data for evaluation and validation of GRN methods. We also discuss various synthetic data generators and tools that support benchmarking against gold standards like DREAM challenge data. Finally, we suggest few important issues that may be helpful for the development of effective inference and visualization softwares.

Availability and connectivity between data become an important factor in information processing. Distribution of Open Data has already gave contribution in providing data, but we still need to connect those data to create a useful solution. The objective of this research is to create web application prototype that can combine web scraping process, aggregation, and dashboard visualization by using Linked Data and Open Data technology. The case study that we used is education and job vacancy information in Jakarta. The main data source for education data taken from website http://***, and data source for job vacancy data taken from http://jobstreet. ***. Various features in this web application include data storage, query modification, auto update data, web scraping, and dashboard visualization. The benefits from this research are to show the relation between data using graphics visualization, and also give information to user or stakeholder about the relationship between educational information and job vacancy information in Jakarta.

This paper describes advanced volume visualization and quantification for applications in non-destructive testing (NDT), which results in novel and highly effective interactive workflows for NDT practitioners. We employ a visual approach to explore and quantify the features of interest, based on transfer functions in the parameter spaces of specific application scenarios. Examples are the orientations of fibres or the roundness of particles. The applicability and effectiveness of our approach is illustrated using two specific scenarios of high practical relevance. First, we discuss the analysis of Steel Fibre Reinforced Sprayed Concrete (SFRSpC). We investigate the orientations of the enclosed steel fibres and their distribution, depending on the concrete's application direction. This is a crucial step in assessing the material's behavior under mechanical stress, which is still in its infancy and therefore a hot topic in the building industry. The second application scenario is the designation of the microstructure of ductile cast irons with respect to the contained graphite. This corresponds to the requirements of the ISO standard 945-1, which deals with 2D metallographic samples. We illustrate how the necessary analysis steps can be carried out much more efficiently using our system for 3D volumes. Overall, we show that a visual approach with custom transfer functions in specific application domains offers significant benefits and has the potential of greatly improving and optimizing the workflows of domain scientists and engineers.

Numerical simulation in tunnelling places a particular challenge to scientific visualization. Apart from the need of displaying geological features one has to also visualize three-dimensional multi-variable scalar fields such as the amount of damage in the rock mass. The paper presents a novel visualization technique, which is being developed within the Joint Research Initiative (JRI) Numerical Simulation in Tunnelling (SiTu), which can be very effectively applied to the display of geological features or the results of computer simulations. The software will be presented at the `Computer Animation & Effects Show' on realistic examples in tunnelling. Display options will include virtual reality and temporal/spatial fogging techniques for displaying scalar fields.
