Decision trees are commonly used for representing medical reasoning, both in structured representations for automatic reasoning and in visual presentations for clinicians. However, in the latter purpose, decision trees often suffer from two problems: (a) some reasoning processes are not well suited for trees, e.g. when considering several independent followup elements, (b) the size of the tree is limited by the screen. Here, we propose the dynamic and interactive visualization of decision trees. To solve problem (a), we used multi-path decision trees, allowing the selection of multiple choices at some nodes, which greatly reduces the size of the tree in some situations. We provide algorithms for one-click navigation in a multi-path tree, i.e. the user may click on any node of the tree at any time. For problem (b), we used the fisheye technique for reducing the visual space devoted to the inaccessible part of the tree. In addition, we represented the tree internally in a formal ontology, making it machine-interpretable and permitting the automatic execution of parts of the tree. We applied this approach in a clinical decision support system related to the management of Covid-19, and we showed the resulting user interface to 6 clinicians.

Particle tracing through numerical integration is a well-known approach to generating pathlines for visualization. However, for particle simulations, the computation of pathlines is expensive, since the interpolation method is complicated due to the lack of connectivity information. Previous studies utilize the k-d tree to reduce the time for neighborhood search. However, the efficiency is still limited by the number of tracing time steps. Therefore, we propose a novel interpolation-based particle tracing method that first represents particle data as B-spline curves and interpolates B-spline control points to reduce the number of interpolation time steps. We demonstrate our approach achieves good tracing accuracy with much less computation time.

This research investigates the application of AI technology to assist in creating naked-eye 3D effects on curved LED screen. The focus is on achieving more controlled and artistic visual presentation. It includes several case studies to validate the effectiveness of different approaches. Firstly, the feasibility of using AI for direct video style transfer will be verified through a comparison between original videos and stylized videos. Secondly, exploring diffusion model to use spatial depth information for layer adjustment and precise control with a particular focus on creating visual content optimized for nakedeye 3D effects. Finally, explore advanced style and motion control using ComfyUI to design a pipeline to enhance artistic creativity and provide practical methods for artists. We hope the results of this study will have practical implications that improve artistic practice, provide efficient solutions for commercial applications, and inform similar visual production endeavors.

The quality evaluation is essential to creating effective data visualization designs. The data visualization research community has produced many quality metrics for evaluating data visualization. However, these quality metrics are rarely integrated into popular data visualization tools. As a result, most data visualization creators are either not aware of these quality metrics or do not know how to apply these metrics to the visualization creation process. In this paper, we propose a novel quality evaluation method that integrates quality metrics into popular data visualization programming tools. Our main contribution is a code-space quality evaluation method, different from the traditional image-space or data-space quality evaluation method. Using our method, a visualization programmer passes a coded data visualization design to a quality evaluation function that generates warnings, comments, and design recommendations. This allows users to integrate quality checks into the design process.

Emotion awareness is a key antecedent to team effectiveness and the use of biometrics can help software developers in gaining awareness of emotions at the individual and team level. In this paper, we propose an approach to include emotional feedback in agile retrospective meetings as a proxy to identify developers' feelings in association with the activity performed by the team. As a proof of concept, we developed an emotion visualization tool that provides an integrated visualization of self-reported emotions, activities, and biometrics. We run a pilot study to evaluate our approach with the agile retrospective meetings of a software engineering capstone project. The preliminary findings suggest that integrated emotion visualization can be useful to inform discussion and reflection around the potential causes of unhappiness, thus triggering actionable insights that could enhance team productivity and improve collaboration.

The prevalent underrepresentation of women in computer science remains a global challenge with profound implications for academic institutions and industries. Despite concerted efforts to address the gender gap, female representation remains alarmingly low, particularly among engineering graduates and information and communication technology (ICT) professionals. This paper revolves around the design and development of a user-centric web interface for the Women@INF project. Leveraging modern web development technologies using NuxtJS, ***, and Bulma, the platform provides an engaging and accessible space for promoting IT projects led by women in computer science. The interface design prioritizes user experience, allowing seamless navigation and exploration of diverse projects. Furthermore, this initiative involves the development of an interactive data visualization tool. Utilizing technologies such as *** and Recharts, the tool empowers users to explore and analyze data dynamically related to women-led initiatives in computer science. We explore the multifaceted approach of the research, emphasizing its role in promoting gender diversity in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields. These contributions collectively enhance the Women@INF research, promoting visibility and providing interactive platforms for users to engage with and derive insights from the initiative's data. Both contributions are pivotal in addressing the gender gap in computer science, offering valuable resources for decision-makers and fostering a sense of community. The tools developed are versatile, showcasing broader applicability to other related projects. This article explores the transformative impact of collaborative initiatives and technological innovations on reshaping the narrative of women in computer science, providing a vital blueprint for sustained progress and increased gender diversity in STEM fields.
