We propose SUMART, a method for summarizing and compressing the volume of verbose subtitle translations. SUMART is designed for understanding translated captions (e.g., interlingual conversations via subtitle translation or when watching movies in foreign language audio and translated captions). SUMART is intended for users who want a big-picture and fast understanding of the conversation, audio, video content, and speech in a foreign language. During the training data collection, when a speaker makes a verbose statement, SUMART employs a large language model on-site to compress the volume of subtitles. This compressed data is then stored in a database for fine-tuning purposes. Later, SUMART uses data pairs from those non-compressed ASR results and compressed translated results for fine-tuning the translation model to generate more concise translations for practical uses. In practical applications, SUMART utilizes this trained model to produce concise translation results. Furthermore, as a practical application, we developed an application that allows conversations using subtitle translation in augmented reality spaces. As a pilot study, we conducted qualitative surveys using a SUMART prototype and a survey on the summarization model for SUMART. We envision the most effective use case of this system is where users need to consume a lot of information quickly (e.g., Speech, lectures, podcasts, Q&A in conferences).

Seabirds have varied movement patterns depending on their group, nesting site, or season. Therefore, seabird experts need to compare movement data under various conditions for conservation and elucidation of ecology. visualization of movement data helps intuitive analysis. However, it is not easy for seabird experts to design suitable visual representations for comparison. The purpose of our study is to develop a tool to support the visualization process for comparison of seabird movement. There are three components to visualization techniques for comparison: Juxtaposition, Superposition, and Explicit Encodings. In our study, we aim to support comparative analysis under complex conditions using flexible Small Multiples based on juxtaposition and superposition. We designed visual representations for the comparative analysis of seabird movement data. We implemented such visual representations into a tool and confirmed its effectiveness for comparative analysis of seabird movement data.

Fair consensus building combines the preferences of multiple rankers into a single consensus ranking, while ensuring any group defined by a protected attribute (such as race or gender) is not disadvantaged compared to other groups. Manually generating a fair consensus ranking is time-consuming and impractical-even for a fairly small number of candidates. While algorithmic approaches for auditing and generating fair consensus rankings have been developed, these have not been operationalized in interactive systems. To bridge this gap, we introduce FairFuse, a visualization system for generating, analyzing, and auditing fair consensus rankings. We construct a data model which includes base rankings entered by rankers, augmented with measures of group fairness, and algorithms for generating consensus rankings with varying degrees of fairness. We design novel visualizations that encode these measures in a parallel-coordinates style rank visualization, with interactions for generating and exploring fair consensus rankings. We describe use cases in which FairFuse supports a decision-maker in ranking scenarios in which fairness is important, and discuss emerging challenges for future efforts supporting fairness-oriented rank analysis. 3D charts are not common in financial services. We review chart use in practice. We create 3D financial visualizations starting with 2D charts used extensively in financial services, then extend into the third dimension with timeseries data. We embed the 2D view into the the 3D scene;constrain interaction and add depth cues to facilitate comprehension. Usage and extensions indicate success.
visualizations support rapid analysis of scientific datasets, allowing viewers to glean aggregate information (e.g., the mean) within split-seconds. While prior research has explored this ability in conventional chart...
