Healthcare systems face demanding challenges due to natural and human-generated threats, such as the COVID-19 pandemic and cyber-attacks, which might severely compromise health service quality. To improve system resilience, decision-makers would need intelligent tools for efficient scarce resource allocation. This contribution explores an agent-based simulation model that intends to capture a part of the complexity of healthcare systems, including their interdependencies with information and communication systems. This preliminary model enables to evaluate system exposure to given risks and it allows to assess decision alternatives to enhance their resilience, by utilizing a "simulation-based optimization" approach. The model is designed to be parameterizable to adapt itself to different operation scenarios and it facilitates the monitoring of relevant performance health indicators over the population. A case-based validation approach is used as an example to illustrate the feasibility and versatility of the proposed approach.

simulation is the key to scaling up validation and verification for robotic systems such as autonomous vehicles. Despite advances in high-fidelity physics and sensor simulation, a critical gap remains in simulating realistic behaviors of road users. This is because devising first principle models for human-like behaviors is generally infeasible. In this work, we take a data-driven approach to generate traffic behaviors from real-world driving logs. The method achieves high sample efficiency and behavior diversity by exploiting the bi-level hierarchy of high-level intent inference and low-level driving behavior imitation. The method also incorporates a planning module to obtain stable long-horizon behaviors. We empirically validate our method with scenarios from two large-scale driving datasets and show our method achieves balanced traffic simulation performance in realism, diversity, and long-horizon stability. We also explore ways to evaluate behavior realism and introduce a suite of evaluation metrics for traffic simulation. Finally, as part of our core contributions, we develop and open source a software tool that unifies data formats across different driving datasets and converts scenes from existing datasets into interactive simulation environments. This paper presents the ongoing Year 2 of digital engineering (DE) simulation curriculum development by a research team from the Systems Engineering Research Center (SERC). This task, sponsored by the Defense Acquisition University (DAU), builds on the extensive DE research portfolio in SERC and leverages the existing literature in the systems engineering and DE communities. The goal of the research is to create a robust learning platform with relevant hands-on modeling and simulation experience that can be used to improve students' DE proficiency levels across the workforce. Part of this research effort includes DAU's partnership with SERC to develop a simulation Training Environment for Digital Engineering (STEDE), which is intended to provide infrastructure and example case studies that allow DAU students to interact directly with models. The paper describes the curriculum development and modeling efforts to-date and addresses challenges associated with the development of the learning materials. An Advisory Board was established to provide guidance and expert knowledge in DE as the team is developing the DE curriculum. Working with the Advisory Board, the team discovered some critical skill gaps in DE which provide an opportunity for the team to further enhance the training and curriculum development to modernize the defense acquisition workforce.

Structural airway changes can be related to acoustic airflow resistance in various chronic lung disorders. However, acoustic imaging for pulmonary diagnosis has been challenging. This paper presents a study on lung function assessment with acoustic imaging through respiratory modeling and simulation and correlates acoustic lung images with pathologic alterations. The method combines wall thickness, inner radius, airway length, and tissue structure into mathematical modeling for pressure, wall elasticity, and airflow at each airway level. By modifying the airway wall thickness (AWT), we have demonstrated the airway resistance of healthy lungs and lungs with respiratory diseases. In addition, the correlation between increasing AWT and mean acoustic image intensity is established for characterizing the severity of the respiratory disease. Furthermore, a structural similarity index of 0.8762 was achieved between our model impedance acoustic image and reference lung sound acoustic image. This work can potentially be used for optimizing the number of acoustic sensors and their placement to obtain an accurate and frequent respiratory assessment.

As GaN on SiC technology becomes accessible to commercial users for 5G applications, modeling needs from transistor to system level has become a big challenge for designers. In this work we demonstrated the strategy of using multi-physics modeling for a high power GaN HEMT PA design to achieve the stringent design target goal on the product level. The simulation result shows excellent agreement between measurements and models. Meanwhile, to facilitate the design process at system level, behavioralmodeling is used to predict module level performance by integrating models in complex signal scheme environment. The final product used with Wolfspeed' s 5G targeted process with reliability test validity is demonstrated in the paper as well.

Network Digital Twins effectively model, simulate and emulate geographically disperse, multi-domain communications networks similar to those described by The Joint All Domain Command and Control (JADC2) strategy. JADC2 connects a diverse network of sensors, communications technologies, related communications systems, platforms, and weapon systems which are all subject to complex interdependencies between varying technologies in harsh and contested environments. Network Digital Twins are well suited for network planning, optimization, and testing of the JADC2 strategy by providing virtual high-fidelity models that accurately reflect network dynamics in simulated physical environments. Network Digital Twins accurately model and simulate RF propagation, transmission technologies, communications protocols, device configurations, and perhaps most significantly, device and asset mobility across space, air, land, sea and cyber environments.
