Energy consumption is an important performance parameter for portable and wireless embedded systems. However energy consumption must be carefully balanced with real-time responsiveness in hard real-time systems. We present an optimal offline dynamic voltage scaling (DVS) scheme for dynamic power management in such systems. A generalized network flow model for the uniprocessor DVS problem is developed and solved optimally using an efficient network flow algorithm. The proposed method outperforms existing DVS schemes for several popular embedded processors where the number of processor speeds is limited to a few values. The GNF model provides theoretical lower bounds on energy consumption using DVS in hard real-time systems.

Head-attached interface device (HIDE) has been developed as a new type of human interface device in an actual work environment. The HIDE has flexible integrated functions which consist of speech recognition and view direction detection as hand-free input channels, direct presentation of audio/visual information as output channels, and mobile system configuration. In this paper, the design concept of the HIDE was first introduced, and individual functions to configure the design concept were developed by their separate testing. An integrated prototype system HIDE was then produced, and its functional evaluation test was made to examine the individual functions. According to the evaluation result, we proposed a design guideline of application software, and developed an example software.

We study a crucial problem in video analysis: human-object relationship detection. The majority of previous approaches are developed only for the static image scenario, without incorporating the temporal dynamics so vital to contextualizing human-object relationships. We propose a model with Intra- and Inter-Transformers, enabling joint spatial and temporal reasoning on multiple visual concepts of objects, relationships, and human poses. We find that applying attention mechanisms among features distributed spatio-temporally greatly improves our understanding of human-object relationships. Our method is validated on two datasets, Action Genome and CAD-120-EVAR, and achieves state-of-the-art performance on both of them.

The traditional FIR filters based on reconfiguration have disadvantages with difficult to control and low-level automation. In addition, the traditional FIR filters take long time to configure. To solve these problems, a real-time reconfigurable FIR filter is proposed which is based on the dynamic partial reconfiguration technology of EAPR and based on multiply accumulate structure. Finding the common and distinguish part by analyze the transfer function of the FIR filters within 1-15 order. Then the FIR filters are divided into static region and reconfigurable region. The design is proposed for the FPGA implementation of the reconfigurable FIR filter, which supports up to 121.265MHz operating frequency and 360KB file size about reconfiguration time is 4.57ms, when implemented in the Xilinx Virtex-5 FPGA device.

This paper presents an improved design of active RF CMOS double balanced Gilbert mixer. The designed mixer adheres to the ieee 802.15.6 standard and can be used for WBAN applications, particularly for biomedical applications. The designed circuit has been optimized for high conversion gain, high linearity and low power consumption. RF frequency used is 2.4GHz that is ISM band. LO frequency is 2GHz with the IF frequency of 400MHz. The designed circuit has high conversion gain of 17.7dB with an input intercept point (IIP3) of 5dBm and 4.67mW of power consumption. The circuit is implemented using 180nm CMOS process with 1.8V power supply.

Wireless Mesh Networks (WMNs) have emerged as a cost effective and promising technology to provide broadband connectivity in several environments. In this work, we consider a cross layer optimal design of routing, medium access control (MAC) scheduling, and physical layer resource allocation for WMNs, where nodes are equipped with Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) antennas. MIMO antennas can greatly improves the throughput by transmitting multiple independent data streams and/or suppressing the interference from neighboring links. To address the MAC and stream control at the physical layer, we consider the notion of Transmission Configurations (TCs). By incorporating the TCs in the cross-layer design, we formulate a Joint Routing and Stream Control Scheduling (JRSCS) problem as a linear program (LP), with the objective of finding a minimum length schedule that satisfies the traffic demand of a set of end-to-end sessions. A column generation based method is proposed to solve the JRSCS problem. The simulation results are presented to verify the performance of the scheme. We have also evaluated the impact of the physical layer capabilities such as number of antennas, single and multi-user radios on the scheduling time of the network.
