Spiking neural networks (SNNs) have gained sig-nificant attention as a promising framework in computational neuroscience and artificial intelligence, offering benefits such as low energy consumption and minimal memory requirements. Despite these advantages, their practical deployment is hindered by several challenges, particularly in performance optimization. This paper introduces a novel methodology to enhance the performance of SNNs in image processing by leveraging a bit-plane-based coding scheme. The proposed approach is specifically designed to improve the accuracy of SNNs without increasing their model size. Comprehensive experimental evaluations demonstrate the efficacy of this coding strategy across multiple datasets. To the best of our knowledge, this work is the first to explore the application of bit-plane representation in the context of SNNs. © 2024 ieee.

The undistorted line scan image acquisition of pot external surface is a crucial prerequisite for implementing defect detection on processed surfaces. Aiming at the problem of serious geometrical distortion on the external surface of pot, this paper constructs a line scan imaging system for the cylindrical side surface and the circular bottom surface of the pot, along with a corresponding algorithm for correcting distortion in line scan images. Firstly, by establishing constraints on parameters such as pot dimensions, rotation speed of turntable, and camera line rate, we acquire line scan images of the external surface. Subsequently, based on spatial relationship between the pot and line scan camera, as well as line scan camera's field-of-view angle, segmentation is achieved for side and bottom images in line scan images. Finally, utilizing angular constraints between external surface and line scan camera, we realize geometric distortion correction for side and bottom images;polar coordinate transformation principle is employed to correct geometric distortion in bottom image. Experimental results demonstrated that pixel error between corrected images processed by aforementioned methods and ideal images is less than 0.2 pixels, indicating potential to provide distortion-free data support for defect detection and quantitative analysis of external surface. © 2024 ieee.

Ciphertext policy attribute-based encryption (CP-ABE) has been widely used as a fine-grained access control mechanism for data sharing. Existing research on CP-ABE schemes in cloud computing environment predominantly focuses on a single attribute authority, which may lead to high computation overhead or a single point of failure. Besides, the encrypted data stored in the cloud restricts ciphertext retrieval. Therefore, we propose a multi-authority attribute-based searchable encryption scheme in cloud storage called MASEP for sharing data securely. In addition, the MASEP scheme supports the validity of retrieving user attributes before decryption, reducing the unnecessary computation cost. Finally, the experiment results show that MASEP scheme is proved to be IND-CPA secure under the chosen plaintext attack, and it is more efficient and promising. © 2023 ieee.

Collaborative robots, also known as cobots, have become progressively popular as they are designed to safely work alongside humans or in shared environments. The adoption of compliant actuators, which avoid damage in the event of an unintentional collision, is an important feature of their design. In prosthetic and orthotic applications, the use of compliant actuators, which minimise damage in the case of an inadvertent contact, is critical to ensuring safety and comfort for the user. In dynamic settings, elastic actuators are preferred over rigid ones, however most compliant cobots are currently too expensive or complex to construct for prosthetic and orthotic applications. To address this challenge, this study presents a low-cost sensorised elastic actuator design for prosthetics and orthotics. This is presented as an educational framework. The design is modular and can be quickly customised using 3D printing technology, allowing for efficient and cost-effective fabrication. Both the hardware and software are open-source, enabling easy access for students, researchers and practitioners. The design also allows for the introduction of impedance and admittance control techniques, providing even greater versatility to the system. © 2024 ieee.

The proliferation because of cloud computing has resulted in inefficient power usage in the areas of data transmission, storing, and handling. This activity is environmentally detrimental due to the release of emissions of carbon. Hence, the implementation of green IT is necessary in order to preserve the surroundings. The environmentally conscious computing in the cloud (GCC) method is an element of green IT that tries to minimize the ecological impact of information centers by reducing the amount of energy they use. The GCC, or Global Climate Change, is a vast and captivating area for scientific investigation. Several studies have been conducted to enhance the utilization of computing resources in line with the GCC vision. The given paper concentrates on diverse facets, encompassing approaches for optimizing software, hardware, and network systems. Also, this paper summarizes and categorizes various GCC approaches. In order to make meaningful comparisons between GCC methods, it is helpful to first identify the central implementation strategies and the problems associated with each. © 2023 ieee.

Compiler optimization is crucial, for enhancing program performance. However manually choosing the optimization flags can be quite challenging for developers. This paper introduces an approach that uses Natural Language Processing (NLP) to automate the selection of GCC optimization flags based on user commands. By converting natural language inputs into compiler flags the system simplifies the optimization process and makes it more accessible to a broader audience of developers. The method involves phases starting from preparing a relevant dataset then training machine learning models and ultimately integrating these models with the GCC compiler. The results from experiments show that this approach significantly enhances both compilation efficiency and overall code performance. These results illustrate how effectively the system aligns developers intentions with what the compiler can achieve making the optimization process more intuitive and effective. This research not only streamlines compiler optimization but also paves the way for enhancing the usability of compiler tools, in future advancements. © 2024 ieee.

S1ow HTTP DDoS attacks involve sending numerous requests to a web server at a low rate, prolonging connection durations to saturate the server's connection pool and disrupt legitimate client access. Detection based on traffic volume monitoring is challenging because of the low traffic volume generated per unit time. Furthermore, attackers employ tactics, such as controlling request transmission rates, timing, and connection durations, to make detection more difficult. Existing mitigation methods statistically process the packet characteristics of an attack, taking at least approximately 20 s for identification and mitigation. Additionally, the false-positive rate for legitimate connections has not been considered, necessitating validation in real-world environments. We proposed a fast detection method that observes the state transitions for each flow of HTTP communication on the network path, cutting off incomplete connections that exceed predefined thresholds for connection duration and idle time. Using data captured from actual attacks, we conducted detection experiments, achieving an average detection and mitigation time of 10 s from the start of the attack. The identification accuracy, as measured by the F1 Score, was 0.986, and the false-positive rate was 0.0096. However, there are concerns about accidentally disconnecting legitimate traffic when applying this method to web servers handling a large number of HTTP communications. Therefore, in this study, we used a web server simulating real-world operations to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method and measured a false positive rate of 0.0013, confirming the efficacy of the proposed approach. © 2023 ieee.

Reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) brings a new paradigm for the future of mobile communications by building intelligent and controllable wireless environments. A beam tracking algorithm based on RIS selection is proposed for the scenario of multiple RISs assisted millimeter wave vehicle-to-infrastructure communication in this paper. The aim is to maximize the performance of beam tracking while selecting as few RISs as possible to assist communication. The simulation results show that the proposed beam tracking algorithm in this paper has better performance than the traditional beam tracking algorithm based on signal-to-noise ratio. © 2024 ieee.

The article presents the results of measurements of power quality parameters in the system supplying railroad automation equipment and railroad traffic control devices, in the 3 kV DC traction system. Measurements were made in the rectifier transformer of the traction substation (30 kV/3 kV) and the non-traction needs transformer (30 kV/ 6 kV). Parameters exceeding acceptable standards were determined and analyzed. The measured and analyzed parameters were in accordance with EN 50160. © 2024 Kaunas University of Technology.
