Turbine and compressor blades for jet engines and gas turbines are forged from high-strength alloys and require close control of the process parameters. The design and manufacture of the dies require particular attention, for they impart their geometry to the final product. For precision forging, the die surface must be corrected for local elastic deflections and thermal shrinkage. Considering turbine blades as a geometric family, a system of programs was developed to aid in forging process design. Given data on the configuration of the blade, the material properties and the forging conditions, this system of programs calculates (a) the optimum forging plane to minimize lateral forces, (b) the required stock volume and weight, (c) the forging load and the torque on the dies, (d) the optimum flash dimensions for uniform metal flow, (e) the average temperature of the blade during forging and (f) the local stresses and elastic deflections during forging. A simulation of the process aids in preform design and in minimization of flash losses by determining the proper position of the preform in the die. This system of programs requires the ability to visualize the forging die to facilitate the design process. computergraphics has been used in two phases to aid this visualization;first, in the design of the dies using the system and second, in explaining its capabilities to others. The first phase relies on the use of interactive graphics techniques to provide information about the die, which includes representations of (a) the preform determined by the programs, (b) the cutter paths necessary to cut the part, and (c) the die itself. Interactive graphics allows the user to make decisions and modify his design rapidly. Ambient Intelligent Systems provide an unexplored hardware platform for executing distributed applications under strict energy constraints. These systems must respond quickly to changes in user behavior or environmental conditions and must provide high availability and fault-tolerance under given quality constraints. These systems will necessitate fault-tolerance to be built into applications. One way to provide such fault-tolerance is to employ the use of redundancy. Hundreds of computational devices will be available in deeply networked ambient intelligent systems, providing opportunities to exploit node redundancy to increase application lifetime or improve quality of results if it drops below a threshold. Pre-copying with remote execution is proposed as a novel, alternative technique of code migration to enhance system lifetime for ambient intelligent systems. Self-management of the system is considered in two different scenarios: applications that tolerate graceful quality degradation and applications with single-point failures. The proposed technique can be part of a design methodology for prolonging the lifetime of a wide range of applications under various types of faults, despite scarce energy resources.

Network analyzer is the main instrument to measure SAW (surafce acoustic wave) devices. Many research workers are familiar with the results coming from network analyzer. From this kind of results we can easily analyze the devices and select which meets the requirement of the design. In this paper, a way was proposed to simulate SAW devices using VHDL-AMS to get results similar to those measured by network analyzer. This way made it easy to design SAW devices by computer. Only changing some parameters, you can get the results before a SAW device is manufactured. It is also extendible for the system level computer-aided simulation containing SAW. As a example, we used three models of SAW devices to simulate a saw filter on ST-X quartz. These three models are crossed-field model, modified crossed-field model and network model. The software using to simulation is ADVance MS(Mentor graphics). In order to conquer the shortage of the VHDL-AMS, Foster's reactance theorem was used. The results were compared with the results measured by network analyzer. It shows that the simulation of network model is closer to that of measurement, in which the parameters were calculate by FEM.

Such dimensions can require structuring requirements according to the dynamics of the development process and/or according to static aspects related to the composition and presentation of requirements to developers and clients. Several dimensions are illustrated and a particular focus is given to the abstraction dimension. Existing methods that allow the design and the documentation of structured requirements and specifications are discussed. An approach based on requirements structuring according to the abstraction dimension to facilitate reuse of requirement specifications is presented.

E-intelligence for integrated product design, manufacturing and service is becoming the core of 21st century advanced manufacturing technology. This paper presents the current efforts at the McMaster Manufacturing Research Institute (MMRI) to, implement an Internet-based computeraided Engineering (CAE) facility for the development of new manufacturing processes. The facility, termed The Centre for Online Manufacturing Optimization (COMO), integrates advanced process simulation software, a remote machine monitoring system, and state of the art multimedia and Internet technologies, to realize a virtual manufacturing process optimization environment. This environment leads the manufacturing engineer through a set of procedures in which physics based process simulations allow process parameters and operational sequences to be evaluated and optimized with respect to desired product features. Once the process parameters are established, the part can be prototyped at the MMRI laboratory or the industrial facility. The Internet-based, computer engineering facility will provide companies with predictive intelligence tools for process development, and production monitoring. A Case Study is presented, in which a 3-axis milling operation is defined, optimized and executed using the COMO facility.
