This paper outlines a method for propagating imprecise constraints in engineering design. An interactive CAD tool implementation is described. To enable rapid propagation, we develop an extension of the Level Interval Algorithm capable of handling arbitrary nonlinear constraints, and implement it in the CAD tool. This paper describes the architecture, functionality, and design of NX-2700 - a digital television (DTV) and media-processor chip from Philips Semiconductors, NX-2700 is the second generation of an architectural family of programmable multimedia processors that supports all eighteen United States Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) [1] formats and is targeted at the high-end DTV market. NX-2700 is a programmable processor with a very powerful, general-purpose Very Long Instruction Word (VLIW) Central Processing Unit (CPU) core that implements many non-trivial multimedia algorithms, coordinates all on-chip activities, and runs a small real-time operating system. The CPU core, aided by an array of autonomous multimedia co-processors and input-output units with Direct Memory Access (DMA) capability, facilitates concurrent processing of audio, video, graphics, and communication-data.

Geometric design of sculptured surfaces and solids has been a major concern in recent developments in computer-aideddesign (CAD). A rational parametric cubics and bicubics-based CAD system has been developed in a micro environment. All geometric elements are stored in rational format, thus allowing creation of exact, uniform geometric databases for sculptured surfaces and solids. Protocol conformance test plays a necessary and important role in guaranteeing that broadband PLC (Power Line Communication) devices to meet the standards and achieve interoperability. A broadband PLC Conformance Testing System is designed based on TTCN-3 framework. The implementation scheme for conformance testing platform is proposed and the module mechanisms as well as key techniques are described. Test suite are designed according to broadband PLC testing requirements, and finally test cases are executed based on testing environment constructed. The work is of significance for promoting the broadband PLC standardization and interoperability.

With process variation becoming a growing concern in deep submicron technologies, the ability to efficiently obtain an accurate estimate of failure probability of SRAM components is becoming a central issue. In this paper we present a general methodology for a fast and accurate evaluation of the failure probability of memory designs. The proposed statistical method, which we call importance sampling through norm minimization principle, reduces the variance of the estimator to produce quick estimates. It builds upon the importance sampling, while using a novel norm minimization principle inspired by the classical theory of Large Deviations. Our method can be applied for a wide class of problems, and our illustrative examples are the data retention voltage and the read/write failure tradeoff for 6T SRAM in 32 nm technology. The method yields computational savings on the order of 10000x over the standard Monte Carlo approach in the context of failure probability estimation for SRAM considered in this paper.

As a computer scientist, I have been working for decades on challenging and highly useful domains of research and applications such as computer-aided manufacturing, health-care or remote communication via avatars. The tsunami-like development of communication technologies like smart phones, tiny sensors of all kinds and the 7/24 online existence has, in recent years, posed new challenges: How can we harvest the potentials of the constant development of digital technologies for the well-being of the society? Who are the "we", the ones to invent, design and present new applications in a way attractive for the "potential user", especially, for the new generations? It is clear that these tasks are beyond the competences of programmers and engineers. At the Creative Technology Lab of MOME we work on experimental projects in interdisciplinary teams of visual artists, programmers, project managers and experts from humanities, pedagogy, and psychology, and often in strong cooperation with the envisioned user. Our aim is to invent novel applications which are appealing, inviting, playful and at the same time useful: making us aware of environmental or social problems, cultural heritage, help/motivate learning, strengthen communities and induce face-to-face dialogues.
