Multi-Robot systems (MRS) are transforming diverse domains like logistics, cargo management, and agriculture. However, ensuring that the behavior is correct under various network conditions within such complex environments is challenging, and meeting the desired automation goals is difficult. We propose the CORNET 2.0 co-simulation framework to jointly and accurately simulate multi-agent robotic systems within physical environments and the communication network models within such environments. Our modular framework allows diverse robot and network models to seamlessly integrate to simulate the robot's autonomy, physical space, and network features, such as latency, throughput, and loss intrinsic to the network topology and communication technology. A key novelty of CORNET 2.0 is its accurate synchronizing of mobility and time, which ensures that the physical location of a robot at a point in time, and the network properties and packets that flow from that location, are aligned. This is vital to model and validate MRS coordination algorithms that rely on network interactions. We provide a detailed evaluation of CORNET 2.0 in modeling real-world MRS use cases, such as leader-follower and warehouse environments, that help highlights the benefits.

The traditional emergency response systems often face significant problems that can delay their services. These systems usually struggle with heavy traffic in cities, outdated ways to communicate, and old-fashioned methods for finding the best routes. These issues can be serious, especially in emergencies where every second matters. Also, the inability of these systems to adapt quickly to changing situations makes it even harder for emergency vehicles to get to where they need to be on time. To overcome these challenges, new technologies are being developed to improve how emergency responses are managed. One of these innovations is the Emergency Response Optimization System with Dynamic Traffic Signal control. This system uses advanced tracking technologies to provide ambulance tracking for patients and dynamic traffic signal control. This paper looks at the problems with traditional emergency services and how new technologies can make a big difference, especially focusing on the advantages of dynamic traffic controlsystems.
With the rapid development of mobile wireless communication technology, the proliferation of devices in 5G networks necessitates enhanced resource management and user equipment coordination. As a promising solution, t...

Engineering cyber-Physical Production systems (CPPSs) involves several different disciplines, where team members range from mechanical, electrical, and automation engineers, to control software engineers. When developing variability-intensive software systems such as CPPSs, engineers create heterogeneous engineering artifacts of varying granularity, structure, and level of abstraction in the problem and solution space, e.g., CAD drawings, delta models, and control software artifacts. Managing consistency among these heterogeneous artifacts is essential during the development and maintenance of these systems to reduce development costs and runtime failures. Software product line engineering provides approaches to manage the variability of heterogeneous artifacts. However, these approaches must be adapted and extended to manage consistency in CPPSs and address the additional multidimensional challenges in CPPSs. In this short paper, we outline these challenges, motivate them using a case study, and discuss potential solutions to manage the consistency of engineering artifacts expressing CPPS control software variability. We thereby lay the grounds for a deeper understanding of possible inconsistencies and exploring new methods for managing consistency in control software variability in CPPSs.

The convergence of Information technology (IT) and Operational technology (OT) in Industry 4.0 presents new challenges, necessitating innovative approaches to guarantee the safe and secure execution of production processes. Consequently, the safety and security of production systems have emerged as crucial elements, given that security incidents can result in severe consequences such as production failure, equipment damage, or human injury. Previously, in a stakeholder analysis, we investigated how Austrian industrial automation stakeholders manage safety and security risks. The study, which included vendors, integrators, and asset owners, focused on secure and safe infrastructures, system architectures, and risk management. Our findings revealed limited industry awareness and usage of the Reference Architecture Model Industrie (RAMI) 4.0, emphasizing the need for an economically viable, holistic approach to integrated security and safety by design. Moreover, we introduced a comprehensive ontology for safety, security, and operation requirements in the IT/OT convergence. Building on top of these works, we introduce a model-based engineering approach to implement integrated safety and security while designing industrial cyber-Physical systems (CPS). We model these systems precisely using System Modeling Language (SysML) 2.0 specification and verify the requirements.

The intrinsic stochasticity of manufacturing is one of the main factors that hinder system resilience. Planning and scheduling problems are typical examples plagued by various manufacturing uncertainties such as stochastic processing time, arrivals of new orders, and uncertain breakdowns of stations. Frequent uncertainties regarding operations and resources disturb the workflow, and their cascading effects create chaos in the whole system. The transparency and traceability in cyberphysical manufacturing systems (CPMS) bring new hope to tackle uncertainties. Inspired by the core spirit of Out-of-Order (OoO) Execution in CPU, this paper proposes a novel OoO architecture, under which production and logistics operations are performed according to real-time executability, for resilient planning and scheduling of CPMS. Computational results have confirmed the effectiveness and resilience of the proposed solution under various uncertainties.
Currently, hypervisor technology is an emerging topic of research. Virtualization technology, especially hypervisors and virtual machines (VM), has been widely studied but is still little applied in the cyber-physical...
