Nowadays, congestion management is a major problem in power system deregulation. With the continuous increase in load demand, there is continuous requirement for different new technologies resulting in advanced network operation. This paper presents a solution for congestion management by developing a series smart wire module which operates with the increment in load. The circuitry is bypassed if it does not detects congestion in line else with the detection of congestion series smart wire module is operated. This method improves the reliability of the system by reducing active power losses. The effectiveness of this module is demonstrated in standard ieee 15 bus system model using MATLAB/Simulink and the results are formulated with graphical representations.

The Brazilian government is maintaining several digital inclusion projects, providing computers and Internet connection to developing regions around the country. However, these projects can only succeed if they are constantly assessed;namely, the projects infrastructure deployment must be closely monitored and evaluated. In this paper, we introduce a system called SIMMC, which is currently monitoring and evaluating more than 4,500 computing devices from Brazilian digital inclusion projects. This system is innovative because, in addition to being used by the government for managing and expanding its projects, the collected data is also publicly available on a web page, allowing the citizens to follow the projects' deployment. We describe the SIMMC architecture, reporting some techniques used to optimize its data analysis processes, and describe how the information acquired and presented by the system has been used to enable public administration overhaul and improve efficiency on the project management, as well as its strategic use for security, theft, and defrauding.

Engineering activities (e.g. design, analysis, and assessment) are characterized as knowledge works, which have intangible output/input and processes, as well as invisible work-in-process (WIP). Due to its invisibility, WIP in engineering projects has not received adequate attention, which hinders engineering companies from capturing the challenges associated with WIP management and optimization. The kanban concept has been proven to enable the management and optimization of WIP in the manufacturing industry. This concept has not been prominent in engineering type of activities and projects, due to the belief that it is applicable only to repetitive and physical production. This manuscript proposes the utilization of game-based learning to disseminate the importance of managing and optimizing WIP by applying the kanban concept in engineering projects. A game is developed to serve this purpose. A project related to risk-based inspection (RBI) is selected as the case study for developing the game.

This paper proposes the EJaCaIIVE framework. The framework consists in an intelligent virtual environment that implements the concept of emotional state. The main aim of this work is to create an environment that incorporates agents, human actors and emotions projecting them virtually and managing the interaction between all elements. The paper also shows a case study that enforces the need of the proposed framework in common environments like nursing henries or assisted living facilities. The main advantage of the framework is the possibility to provide a safe environment where users are able to interact with the system without any real harm.

Since 1980 the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (ieee) has supported development of human factors (HF) standards. Within ieee, Subcommittee 5 (SC5) of the Nuclear Power Engineering Committee develops and maintains HF standards applicable to nuclear facilities. These standards are structured in a hierarchical fashion. The top-level standard defines the HF tasks required to support the integration of human performance into the design process. Five lower tier documents expand upon the upper tier standard. Presently, two new HF standards projects are underway;one to provide HF guidance for the validation of the system interface design and integrated systems operation and another for designing and developing computer-based displays for monitoring and control of nuclear facilities. In addition to producing and maintaining HF standards, SC5 is also involved in outreach activities, including sponsorship of a series of conferences on human factors and nuclear power plants.

All electric Aircraft and intelligent systems is the future trend of Avionics. It is very important to monitor various health parameters of the aircraft in order to ensure safety of passengers, crew and operators and to improve reliability of aircraft. Even as the aerospace community is working on multiple technologies like EHM, SHM, AHM and IVHM to monitor health parameters, there are challenges in selecting and placing the sensors optimally and establishing seamless communication between different subsystem monitoring units. This requires increased number of sensors and with the existing wired network in the aircraft, deploying and managing a scalable sensor network becomes more complicated. It is proposed to develop WSN onboard aircraft to simplify configurability and maintainability for a scalable network. developing new WSN comes with design challenges for selection of topologies, frequency allocation for wireless nodes and meeting the performance metrics in terms of network throughput, system latency and reliable data. Since performance metrics depends on the traffic characteristics, a mathematical model for network traffic analysis for the proposed WSN is presented. Priority Queueing theory has been used in the model to handle different priority levels of multi-typed and multi-rated sensor data in an avionics network. Both preemptive and non-preemptive priority handling policies are used to define mathematical expressions for network traffic. The policies enable comparative analysis of network performance in terms of qualifying system response to low priority data in presence of those belonging to high priority class. The model is applied to a representative network with 6 sensors of different priority levels and variable data rates to assess QoS parameters of the network, in specific (i) Average system response and (ii) Waiting time. Evaluation of construction or renovation projects is necessary for the developing of distribution network. A comprehensive evaluation can contribute to find problems in the process of projects and promote scientific level of decision making for future construction or renovation. In this paper, we propose a post evaluation for distribution network. Firstly, we put forward an integrated index system which could reflect the goals of construction or renovation from different levels. Then, the improved gray correlation analysis method is introduced to calculate the weight of index system, which is used to evaluate comprehensive investment results of projects. Finally, a practical case studied based on the proposed evaluation scheme sucessfully.

Admittedly, the broadband access network has been improved largely with the developing technologies, it is still facing challenges on managing and maintaining existed resources efficiently. In order to build up an intelligent and open network architecture, and solve the problem of heterogeneous networks consisting of devices from different vendors, we have worked out a web-based managing system implementing the concept of Software-Defined Network (SDN) and Network Functions Virtualization. The controlling plane is centered into the Controller layer and decoupled from the forwarding layer. The frame we proposed is also applicable for old routers, which do not support SDN, with an embedded module on it to translate the OpenFlow messages. For a more intelligent routing schema, the controller is able to calculate with a fine-tuned ant colony optimization algorithm. At the top of the controller, the web-based managing system is accessible for operators, and they can manage the resource they possessed. With the above framework, we achieve the goal of an intelligent and open network architecture and verify it.
